First, when I tried to E-mail a reply to the Hey, Answerfans! question in the current column, I got a "mail refused" error from the address it forwards to. Then, when I tried to post in the Answerman thread in the forum, I got: "Ran into problems sending Mail. Response: 521 User is over the limit for messages allowed to be sent in a single day." That was only the first message, and the only one I was planning to post today. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over?

I was getting ready to post the same thing, but I'm only having one of those problems. In my last two posts I've gotten the General Error Ran into problems sending Mail. Response: 521 User is over the limit for messages allowed to be sent in a single day error. Odd thing is that it still posts the message and I'm still able to post again after I've gotten it. Some bug? I don't know.

EDIT: I got after this message too so I'm now 3 for 3.

I got same problem as well. A few times I got this (same thing with PMs):

Quote:
Ran into problems sending Mail. Response: 521 User is over the limit for messages allowed to be sent in a single day.

and once:

Quote:
Ran into problems sending Mail. Response: 521 yahoo.com closing transmission channel. User is over the limit for messages allowed to be sent in a single day.

Infact when posting this I got the former message again...

I got this and it posted it anyway. Does this have anything to do with the overloaded servers?

I have also been seeing this error message a lot since about 3 p.m. EST, though not all of the time I've tried to post something.

Wonder what is causing this. It won't let me delete a double post I accidentally did.

The exact same thing happened to me when submitting a post. 'Twas somewhat unnerving, but the message still posted successfully.

This problem crops up frequently, and every time it does so it makes my blood boil. Just because someone is having problems with their E-mail notification shouldn't mean I have to see the error report. Isn't that something that would be better seen by an Admin? Speaking of which, what are the Admins doing to fix it?

Anyway, I've never seen the problem affect anyone's post. It just annoys us all with a pointless message and makes it harder to check on the post to see if the tags are all working, et cetera. So there is no need to panic if you see it; anger or irritation are more suitable emotions.

Sorry about all that. I was trying to fix this problem by routing notification emails through a different IP address, but that appears to have backfired. Sad

dtm42: anger or irritation are never suitable emotions, especially since I fixed the problem ~12 hours before your post. But I do agree phpBB is crappily made to show irrelevant errors like that.

I can be irritated that it happened in the first place, can't I? And no, that's not a dig at you, I'm referring to just being irritated in general.

But anyway, thankyou for fixing it. At another forum I go to (which also uses phpBB) the problem crops up regularly. But the Admin there are so lazy that they don't fix it until the chorus of complaints is loud enough. Though they do hold down regular jobs as well, that doesn't excuse their snarky attitude. They once told us they would refuse to fix it and that we should just "live with it" and quit our bellyaching. Well excuse me. Eventually it did get fixed, but I have never forgotten or forgiven them.

Irritation leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. Be wary of the dark side...

I was playing with the email notification at the time.

Trying to get it back to being reliable.
