There is absolutely no sexual content in The Promised Neverland. I wouldn't have hesitated to put it in a middle school (though our current climate makes it hard to consider what books CAN actually be stocked without issue), but high schoolers can absolutely handle it.

More bullshit from losers who have nothing better to do with their lives but harass people with jobs that actually benefit society.

Bloom Into You

The agenda is clear here. Blood Into You (and most of the list) are very light in terms of "questionable content". They're just trying to ban anything they personally dislike, which sometimes is mildly violent content, but also includes LGBT+ stuff. It's just homophobia. The most I remember in Bloom Into You spoiler[was kissing. Someone can correct me if they went further.]. This is really insane.

What's even wrong with Detective Conan? That's a manga literally MADE for children.

IIRC spoiler[ there was a sex scene at the end of the manga, nothing very explict in the nsfw sense but it was there...so there is that. ]

I assume it's all of the murdering, even though it's not graphic and the exact same kind of content you get in any number of western-made mystery titles. The real subtext here, though, seems to be banning non-American things with non-American values, so things which would be fine in a piece of classical literature are being expunged if they do not seem to align with those (arbitrary) values, irrespective of how actual people feel about it.

Separation of church and state seems to be a forgotten principle at this point.

If Shakespeare was written in plain, modern English they would ban that too for sure. Having all the racy content hidden behind old forms of English makes it seem prestigious, but if Sasaki and Miyano is too much sexual content for some and Fire Force is "pornographic" then Romeo and Juliet would never pass the sniff test.

Gotta love how Assassination Classroom was near the beginning of all this but is probably the most tame one on the list. It even has great morals! people really leaning into anti-sex, homophobic, anti-violence, overtly religious (almost Puritan) and racist attitudes more than ever lately. Thought we all went through this before and learned that keeping minds and hearts open was a good thing? That learning about other cultures was smart? That accepting people for how they are was the epitome of kindness? That video games don't inspire violence!? We all learned this shit once before and now we're just regressing! Even worse, it's at a time when millennials (people my age who were always open to all this) are old enough to be in these job positions! What happened to us all!? Do y'all not remember anything you learned? Anything you did in your youth? Anything you loved? Gen-Xers too for that matter! Y'all were part of this change but now you're becoming just like the boomers in how you see and treat things! What gives!?

Conservatives are funny. They want people to respect their views and beliefs, but at the same time want to dictacte how others should live their lives and what rights they should have.

best not be a bible allowed on premise as its the most sexual book of all.

Just wanted to highlight this from the Tennessee State Legislature since it probably got overlooked by some:

Quote:
Any material "containing nudity or describes or depicts sexual excitement, sexual conduct, excess violence or sadomasochistic abuse" are now prohibited with the amended act. Material which appeals to the "prurient interest" should also be under consideration for age appropriateness.

Meaning anything with just the slightest bit of fanservice is getting pulled, no matter how mild it may be. Even just something as simple as a girl flirting and a guy getting red in the face could be seen as "sexual excitement" and get a book pulled.

I honestly don't know what books this leaves. Is non-fiction exempt? Are text books up for review? The right is always looking for reasons to rewrite history books, this seems like as good a reason as any.

They're even banning Shakespeare now.

Beyond parody.

Meanwhile, public schools in some states (like Texas) are starting to encourage Bible studies in the classroom. Ignoring the religious aspects for a moment, I can't help but roll my eyes at the fact that everything can be excused when it comes to the Bible (nudity, rape, incest, murder, "sexual content" if we're going by the definition book banners use), but if a fictional kid so much as has 2 moms, it's game over.

My favorite of those ironies is Ezekiel 23:20 of the NIV, "There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses."

I looked into this once out of curiosity (what the bible is rooted in historically is one of my many fascinations), and it's some sort of metaphor that would have been easily understood in it's day, that men who are especially virile aren't very smart because smart men don't have all their energy going to their privates and that the woman (representing a country) was lustily laying with men that weren't smart or moral. So that is what we should be forcing kids to read, but somehow Case Closed is what's harming kids today.

I find it ironic that many of the same people complaining about these bans on Twitter are the same people who voted these Bible-thumpers into power, because they got tired of "the woke."

Well, enjoy. Tiger's mouth, meet human face. And no. This isn't a four-year whoopsie like it was last time. This shit is gonna last generations. Enjoy it to the fullest.
