I saw this collection at Best Buy the other day and I had no idea that it was KNM. I've always wanted to see this so I'll have to pick it up now.

I thought she sounded natural enough, actually. And if you're going to point out story holes, you could also ask why don't the orochi just all launch an invasion at once and get it over with, rather than space themselves out like they've done? For me, I do realize this but don't really think about it while I watch the series, because it hardly matters in the end. Some think of this series as not great or silly, and in some aspects I won't totally disagree. But Kaishaku's other series, Shattered Angels, is an utter trainwreck. Watching the latter title should make anyone appreciate Kannazuki more. I do prefer the original title more, Kannazuki no Miko. For that matter, I’m very relieved I got the original box set from Geneon. It’s great that Sentai saved it for people to keep checking it out, especially Yuri fans, but the English title sounds less distinct and I know they’re selling it as a compact set, and I think my collectible box set looks so much nicer on my shelf. That and I managed to get the special limited release of the third volume with the collectible booklet of the making of the series, which offers some insight and probably more depth than is probably necessary. Despite its faults, I love this series every time I watch it and I think the love story is gorgeous in some ways (despite the disgusting actions Chikane took in the middle); one of my all-time favorite guilty pleasures. |

Actually, "Kannazuki" is a more interesting title when you realize that the word literally means "month without gods," since the 10th lunar month (not exactly the same as October) when the gods are supposed to make a pilgrimage to Izumo Taisha, where the same month is called "Kamiarizuki," "the month with the gods."
That would be a lot to fit on a DVD cover, of course, but I think they chose the month rather carefully for the title, from your plot description. It's not just "October." |

I liked the show, when one ignores the largely irrelevant parts - being the mecha battles. For the greater story, the mecha might as well not be there.
And the story is, in the end, all about Chikane and Himeko. Even the Orochi is ultimately a plot device. Also, I've been slightly surprised by how divisive character Chikane, due to the path she takes, seems to be amongst people who take their yuri shows more seriously than I. And I liked it more when it was called Kannazuki no Miko. |

for more information on what happens in this pilgrimage, i would HIGHLY recommend Kamichu...also Geneon rescue license...except it's by Funimation...not Sentai... on one episode, Yurie the God, goes to Izumo for the annual gathering....it's very cute episode....but then again, the entire series is cute...
boy i'm glad i bought it when Geneon USA was still around....nice packaging plus small artbook....and had Kannazuki no Miko on the lable with small Destiny of the Shrine Maiden on the side.... i also don't like the font used on the new packaging....it looks like racing stripe....for some reason.... |

They decided to go with a translated title versus the Japanese. Though shoujo-ai is not my cup of tea, Kannazuki no Miko sounds a lot cooler than Destiny of the Shrine Maiden.

I was going to point that out but you beat me to it. vashfanatic is right, ANN even lists "Priestess of the Godless Month" as an accepted litteral translation of the original title. Destiny of the Shrine Maiden is an okay title imo. Kannazuki no Miko is waaaaay better, of course but it could be worse. |

Same with me.I find Chikane's and Himeko's VA were decent. Though for souma's voice who also play's as that same guy who voiced Shiki from Lunar Legend Tsukime and Toshiro from Bleach sounded a little off for the average bishouen teenager. My opinion,i thinked that Yuri would've made a more decent Souma ,though his brother who was voiced by Liam O Brien was a perfect fit as the bishouen brother. Too bad there wasnt any futher development with souma and his brother though.
Not quite. I think shattered angles was preety decent in my view.Sure there were flaws that some considered big and killed the series, but it's preety decent and the ending wasn't perfect but passable. However i cant say the same thing for Kannazuki no miko's ending cause sure they were able to renuite in their next life which i like and it saved it for me, but separating them like that was soo wrong,Worse is that the seriously screwed over Souma for the last epsiode. Talk about a no win senario and it really pissed off a lot of people who saw it. I like Shattered Angels ending more than Kannazuki's. Hopefully it's manga version isn't the same thing as well cause luckily it's 1st volume is a hell of a lot different than the anime. |

And here I was thinking you'd link me to "Case Closed," what I consider the most egregious example of "who the hell cares what the original title was?" I mean, "Bride of the Strait" sounds a little odd as a translation, but what on earth was wrong with "Detective Conan"?? At least they kept "bride" and "shrine maiden" are in the titles. When you go out of your way to make up something that bears not even a shade of resemblance to the original, I start to wonder. Meanwhile, though, as that rare beast, the straight female yuri fan, does this series veer more towards cute or towards fanservice? If it's the former, I definitely want to give this a rent. |

The name Ron E. Howard immediately springs to mind. . . |

Do you mean Robert E. Howard, creator of the Conan the Barbarian series? Because if he did a book where Conan becomes a detective, It'd be the first I'd heard of it. |

Destiny of the Shrine Maiden sounds to me like like a hetero anime romance title. Well, the company got the license from another and have the power to call it this rather than Kannazuki no Miko.

I kinda enjoyed this series when it came out. Man talk about a "yuri" year. 2004, we had 'My-HiME', 'Madlax', and 'Kannazuki no Miko'. Well, 'Madlax' doesn't really count but there were slight undertones. But mostly for 'My-HiME' and 'KnM'. But yeah, it was a cheesy show but I liked it. Don't need that collection as I spent time during 'Geneon's demise trying to grab the LE versions. The original covers and boxset were much nicers, that cover is LAME!! But hey what are you gonna do. Gawd it looks like some generic heading you'd see on one of those dubbed kiddie boxsets.
I will agree with the music. I enjoyed it. Too bad it was never released. But only the JP LE version came packed with one. Really sets a mood for the tragedy of this show. |

Luckily there's some of the original geneon box set releases out there.so they may not be a good reason for this one unless it had better extras, espeically if they included the soundtrack like with fate stay night..
I would've gotten it by now if i didn't had the geneon verson already however if you haven't then it's highly recomended cause it is a good yuri series. |
