I just got this info from my mom (PhD: Electrical Engineering).
This article explains the properties of Reflective Camouflage (ie. Ghost in the Shell and Predator). I'm sure all of you guys saw this article somewhere. In case you haven't here is the link: http://projects.star.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/projects/MEDIA/xv/oc.html What's even cooler, they made a reference to Masamune Shirow. How cool is that. Just something you guys might like. Ranmah |

But in GITS it works without the elaborate projection setup.

Yes, I too was dissapointed in the discription. It's just not as kewl unless I can run naked through the streets wearing the coat and noone would see me...hehehe!! |

I've seen that before... it won't even work unless you're looking at it from exactly the right distance and angle, otherwise, what's being displayed on the clothing won't match up with what's in the background.

Tell you what... You run naked through the streets, and I'll pretend I didn't see a thing. - abunai |

I had seen the site before...but I also saw a thing about it on The History Channel. It looks cool, but like people said, at the moment it's not very practical.

Ha ha ha ha. Is it that old already? Well, yea, read about it before some time ago. About a demonstration is science class by a lecturer. |

I saw this a while before too. It's not really that impressive at the moment, but if they keep at it, it'd be intresting to see how much they progress in ten years or so.

I remeber it being on an old Discovery Program called "On the Inside." Something about Non-Lethal Weaponry. They used it in a scenario where a family blockaded themselves in a farmhouse. Part of the tactics used by the Raid team was to have spotters in "Therm-Optic Camo" scope out the place, while other spotters and an APC decked out in Therm-Optics slowly move up to the house. The idea was that while you cannot see the Therm-Optic Camo guys from far away, but somewhat close-up, you could make out bodylines and heat waves that don't look "natural" against the landscape. |
