I happen to come across this question on Yahoo! Answers and they sourced this site saying that Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai english dub will be available this year in September (the second season of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni anime series, mostly the "answers" arch). However, I searched through the news achives in the site and can't find any confirmation. I was wondering if this is true or some sort of rumor.

I do happen to start watching Higurashi no Naku Koro ni english dub online at Youtube (and no, I am not going to get myself banned by giving you the link and good luck trying to search there since Youtube is very touchy on copyrights). So far, I finished watching the first four episodes and I'm really confused, but others are saying I should continue watching the series (including Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai, even though there isn't an official dub or sub).

As for my thoughts on Higurashi no Naku Koro ni anime series, it's quite bloody, but it's not as bad as Elfen Lied. The voice acting is okay, but better than the dubs you see on televisioni like 4Kids.

[EDIT: Changed the title to reduce the long-winded-ness of the series' full name. -TK]

From the info I know on the series it's set up like a "game" each ark being the out come of a different event in the said "game" each time the players are bought back to life as if nothing happened.

I have yet to watch the anime my self I do own part of the manga (it was in my Yen Plus mag) but haven't given it a read yet. But thats what my friend told me how the ark system was set up

Well, thanks for slightly spoiling the series *sarcasm*, but I'm asking about the confirmation of the english dub of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai. Yahoo Answers! said it's September 2009 according to this site, but I searched through the news archives and no results.

That season hasn't been licensed so far in R1. The only thing concerning Higurashi that has been licensed recently were the visual novels, but those will be released in October.

If ANN hasn't reported it, then it probabally didn't happen.

They could also be confused and thinking of the When They Cry (series 1) boxset which comes out August 25th....

Unfortunately, those claims are false. Unless there's a fansub group out there who decided to dub it instead of sub it. Razz

Seriously though, you should buy the cheap boxset. That is the best way to tell Geneon/Funi that you want Kai. I bought the singles back in the day and I'm seriously considering buying the new set for that very reason.

Ok, thanks. This kinda tells me that Yahoo! Answers is just as unreliable as Wikipedia.

And since Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai hasn't been licensed yet, this could mean there will be different voice acting. James Arnold Taylor as Keiichi, here we go (even though I'm not a big fan of him, I find his voice acting as Tidus from Final Fantasy X to be great)!

Yeah, that is a concern of mine as well. Geneon could license it, have New Generation dub it, and have Funi distribute it, but it would be a longshot at best. If Funi were to pick it up, it's very unlikely that they would outsource the dub, but they may hire the va's if they were willing to come to Texas for some work.

All in all, I'd rather have an R1 release with different voices, than no R1 at all.

so does anyone have any idea if Higurashi no naku koro ni Rei is the sequel OVA to Kai or what? I saw the first two seasons, and I don't really want to ruin it if this OVA is set after Kai. Personally I don't know where they can go with this!

Thanks

Higurashi Rei takes place after Kai. Definitely watch Kai first.

I agree, I did this with the Shana set. I loved my Shana singles, the most I had paid for a series. The set + ova got to a price where I double dipped for the first time, sending a message that I would like to see more. (I am sure I may have griped a bit at the time about having to rebuy just for the ova, but lets forget that now).

On Higurashi (I have the first set in singles in a nice artbox, slightly cheaper than what Shana cost), As long as the game comes out, I might consider life still worth living if no more of the anime legally makes it over here.

And luckily, it is coming out in English from MangaGamer.

Yes, I hope it does well for them. Hopefully expanding the visual novel market. VN's can be awesome. It is easy to see why they are a go to source for anime. There is the good with the bad though. My favorite VN, Ever 17, was released here by a company who is no longer in operation. H scenes, if they fit the story, can be powerful additions (thinking Crescendo). In Ever 17's case, it did not need them.

I am going to try out one of their other titles beforehand. Not Shuffle though, mainly because the H game was not really highly regarded in the first place, and may have been more suited for the anime format from the start.

I think you've missed several recent licenses where they got back most of the VAs. Of special note is Slayers Revolution, which appears to be at the very least a bi-coastal recording. They are the only company that would likely retain the original English cast in whole or in part.

Sadly, Yahoo! Answers doesn't know what they are talking about. Unless Funimation is holding this news back as one heck of a reveal for an upcoming anime convention, it's not true.
