Excellent news !
for those who might be interested, this webpage lists all the Japanese animation movies, shorts and series (first couple of episodes) that will be shown during the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland (yay ! ^^), which runs from 5th to 15th August. http://www.catsuka.com/news_detail.php?id=1249329588 I'll be heading there to see Summer Wars (which came out in Japan on 1st August !). Can't wait ! |

This must be an interesting event. I knew about the Gainax and Yoshiyuki Tomino events, but the actual number of shows on offer is several times beyond my expectations. In fact, my top three anime are all being shown here, along with scores of titles that have yet to be released in Europe- the Gurren Lagann film being just one of the premiers for the continent. The amount of licensing work that took place to establish all these shows must have been phenomenal.

Weird, I just learned of Michel Ocelot earlier today. I saw The Three Inventors; pretty incredible stuff.

How did I miss this earlier? I am a huge fan of his gentle subtle understanding and portrayals of human nature.
Only Yesterday is a total gem. I would like to see more of his documentaries and recent work on puppet theatre. Respect to Takahata sensei! NMM |
