Ghibli's Isao Takahata Receives Award at Locarno

Michel Ocelot presents Honorific Leopard to helmer of Grave of the Fireflies, Only Yesterday
Isao Takahata, the co-founder of Studio Ghibli and the director of such acclaimed works as Grave of the Fireflies, Only Yesterday, and Pom Poko, has received the Honorific Leopard award at the 62nd Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland on Thursday. French director Michel Ocelot (Azur et Asmar, Kirikou and the Sorceress) presented the award to Takahata; Ghibli helped introduce Ocelot's works to Japan. Takahata is at the festival to present his Pom Poko, Little Norse Prince Valiant, and Grave of the Fireflies films as part of the festival's Manga Impact event. He will also participate in an onstage conversation with Ocelet on Friday at 10:30 a.m.
