Great. Yet another francise to be forever lost in the draughty halls of lawsuits, and counter lawsuits.

I hadn't even realized production had halted. This sucks.
I just figured, given the material and animation that they were taking their time. Hope this pans out, because I think this would make a good TV series.

Oh, I could think of several, but it's not really worth getting banned over.

And thank goodness for that. Given how awful the Tank Swat OVA was, and how bad the Appleseed CGI movies were ("Let's replace all the political intrigue and meticulous attention to technical consistency with generic guns-akimbo hollywood action!"), the farther Higa and Micott & Basara are from Appleseed, the better.

I was no big fan of the movies either, but respect that they have their fans. That said, this TV show was supposed to be directed by Romanov Higa, who, to my knowledge, has yet to direct anything even remotely good looking or even watchable. So perhaps this legal fight will be more entertaining than anything we would have ultimately gotten from a functional production.

As a huge fan of the manga who largely disliked the movies (although I found 2004 more tolerable than Ex Machina) I agree with all of this. However, I was willing to overlook shoddy animation and awful directing for the absolute awesome that would have been Paku Romi as Deunan. My heart nearly stopped when I heard that particular tidbit of news about the series, and now it will probably never be.

Damn. I was just thinking to myself the other day... Wasn't there supposed to be an Appleseed TV series coming? Oh, well... Maybe Shirow'll do Dominion instead! Assuming he sticks to the original manga and keeps No More Noise a million miles away from it, of course. :p 'Course, they could always do a third season of GitS... Though I would hope they'd come up with an ending that DIDN'T involve killing the tachi/fuchikomas. :p

Wasn't the production of New Dominion Tank Police overseen by Shirow himself?
Aside that, I believe the first OVA takes much of its story from the first manga, which is understandably cut short due to its running time.

It's prob for the best that we won't see it from Higa. Just give it to a company and director that can produce good anime (BONES, Madhouse, Production IG).
Besides Micott & Basara still needs to get Blame! out.
