Too much , and too many "Mechanimes" but that's not nessecarly a bad thing now is it? Twisted Evil here's a list of something old and new.

1.Detonator orgun
2.kinshin corps
3.Getter robo armageddon
4.Rayzephon
5.Gravion
6.Gunparade march
7.Blue gender might be your kinda thing.
8.Gundam seed is what many are raving about, i haven't had the time to peep this one out.
9 if it weren't for the poor english dubbing i would highly recommend Dangaio. here's hoping for a Japanese language DVD.

"i'm out"!

I agree with pretty much everything already listed. A few more I can add:

1. Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure. It's not a hugely serious anime, and it has quite a bit of similarity to Eva, right down to the actual mecha themselves, but it's still pretty good.

2. Gasaraki, The mecha in this series, are probably the closest to actual reality that I have seen. If we were able to build mecha in the present, it would probably be something along the lines of the TAs in this series.

First, the the one guy spelled RahXephon wrong. Though I'd give the correct spelling just incase you wanted to look it up or something because it is very good. Two others that I would suggest are Evangelion and Full Metal Panic. If you happen to see full metal panic and enjoy the characters and their relationships, I would further suggest Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu.

I'm not real sure Evangelion really qualifies as a mecha anime, as the Evangelion units are not mechanical, nor does it really have the typical mecha anime plot.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the original Super Dimensional Fortress Macross yet. Sure, M+ is very pretty, but it can't hold a candle to SDF Macross, plotwise. Or characterwise, for that matter.

But up until the ending, Evangelion does have a mecha plot, in the sense that in nearly every episode has a mecha battle in it. It's a really messed up and confusing plot, but Eva is still far more action oriented than, say, Macross Plus or Patlabor II.

Again, though, the units are not mechanical, so does it really apply?

I lean towards no, myself. I just like to call it part of the mind-screw genre....

Well, for most of the series, you think that they're mechanical, and they still have plenty of mechanical components. It's kinda like how Batman is still a superhero even though he doesn't have any actual superpowers.

I'm starting to get more into this genre of anime as well. I'm thinking of checking out some Gundam series. I've only seen some of Mobile fighter G Gundam.

I was reading an article in Newtype mag for Gundam Seed and it looked very cool.

I consider Evangelion a mecha anime. It certainly is a departure from the norm, but it has it's roots in mecha. Maybe we can just say it is a sub-catagory under mecha. On a similar note, I consider giant robot shows like Mazinger and Getter and Big O as part of the larger mecha catagory.

Anyway, I totally agree with SDF Macross. Macross, Gunbuster, and RahXephon would be my recomendations.

Yes Eva is mecha. Okay so the units aren't actually mechanical but that doesn't really matter. Although the word mecha derives from mechanical when applied to anime its not all that important.

- Ah yes, i forget all about macross plus and robotech.

- wow the_soultaker i have some mecha anime to catch up too.
i managed to get rahxephon but only watched the first episode. and as for the rest of ur recommendations i haven't heard of most of them. Embarassed

- and sean full metal panic was okay but i wasnt all that impressed with the way it was handled.
