This one goes out to Asuka and KrazyGamers for some utterly uncreative news swiping.
When I noticed the L'Arc news had been stolen, I figured I'd take a glance at the KG archives. And whaddya know, the same thing happens here, here, and here! There's probably more, but after a while it I got bored reading stuff I'd already written and read on ANN. An e-mail's definitely in order--after a little public chiding, of course. |

Ah, plagarism at its finest. You'd think he could be a little more creative in taking the work and at least changing a few words around to create some doubt, but leave it to an idiot to not figure to do even that much.

"Yeah, where on earth can I be a God, a Woman, an expert on anything, and a Rich Playboy all at one spot?" - quote from another message board. |

The only time I even consider of swiping new from here with out changing it is when something gets licensed. And the place I put it I don't say I wrote it. I also don't say I did write it however most people know I get my news from places like this.

Our copyright policy is pretty straightforward. You can copy front page news posts as long as you credit ANN. (But if you're going to use it a lot, you might as well just put the newsfeed on your site...) If you want anything more than those three-line front page bits, just link it instead. |

Well I would but there is a slight problem.
One of the rules regarding the place I put them (its a forum anyways not anything actually news related) is that and I quote "No links to any website that has a forum" So I can't directly link you guys ... not that I haven't before and gotten away with it. The Anime Section of that forum (its an FFXI clan forum) is very ... dead shall we say. |

A friend of mine runs a major DVD site. Since the thief in question was coming from a static IP, he reprogrammed his server to feed the guy a "special" version of the page with fake news stories
Eventually he got bored and ran out of ideas, so he's now just blocked his IP from accessing his site |

What a bizarre rule. I'm afraid it doesn't change ANN's policy, though. |

Well I wasn't the one who came up with I can tell ya that. I'm just a moderator for the anime section.
I'll check the thread though since I only pull licensing news (and nothing else) I might be able to put the name of the place but not direct link it ... I'll figure some way around it. Now as to the rule. It was put up because the person in charge didn't want members from other FFXI clans to come and post about their clans and steal members ... basically the guy is totally paranoid. |

I wonder if they're taking from other sites also. If somebody knows you might want to inform those site.
P.S. What a Joke |

Well, regardless of who came up with the rule, if it clashes against ANN policy, it clashes against ANN policy. Of course, there's a very easy way around it. Either put ANN's name under each news post you take... or just stop posting anything altogether. It really is that easy. |

Wow, that is a joke. Somehow I doubt they trademarked anything on their site, and I also doubt they'd be able to close down much of anything for violating them. Is ANN going to do anything about this? Emerje |

First, we send them a polite, informal request to remove the offending content. If they refuse, or they don't respond, we will send a more formal request to remove the offending content. If they don't respond after that, we may take appropriate legal actions against the offending site or group. We will, however, defend our legal rights. In this case, however, I'm willing to bet that it's just a simple misunderstanding. |

I offer this suggestion on another site I go to when it concerns Newspapers and their is no web copy avaliable: (Name of Newspaper, Date) [So in this case, substitute "Name of Newspaper" with "animenewsnetwork.com" or something appropiate.] "Gruntie bites Kuroneko-chan, Kirara laughs." [post the title of the article on ANN here] "Gruntie, in a fit of rage over who's the more obscure anime animal mascot, bit Kuroneko-chan as Kirara laughed on the side." [post a short blurb, or the tagline under the article link on front page] |
