Just wondering if they canceled the single volume releases for Welcome to the NHK. Cause I looked on RightStuff, and it said "on order from manufacturer" (which means out of stock).

Over on DVDAF, they give a release date for Vol. 6 as Dec. 30, 2008.

It is also not availble on Amazon.

Can anybody help? I don't really feel like re-buying a half-season to get the only volume I need.

On Order might mean out of stock for Rightstuf themselves, it doesn't mean out of print.

I doubt that. They have no reason to, and it sounds more like rightstuf is just out of stock. Plus I'm pretty sure I saw them at Best Buy the other day.

Yeah I was in the anime castle store the other day and I saw them so I doubt they are out of print.

OK thanks, I guess the Best Buys in my area (which is in Texas...)
are kinda crappy about getting stuff.

Cause they also did not carry the 2nd season of Sasami Magical Girls Club (but they sold the 1st season).

I have seen vol. 5 of Welcome to the NHK (which still has the ADV logo) just today at a Best Buy I went to.

Maybe I should go to the really good one near the mall...

Or just order it, and wait...

I remember hearing that they were delayed into January, but I don't recall where. I can't find the news article on ANN, and AoD is just a mess right now. But afaik they haven't been officially cancelled; if they had, ANN's Talkback and AoD's R1 forum would've spontaneously combusted by now.

I wouldn't put too much stock in stuff being on order at RightStuf. In my experience, almost half their inventory is on order at any given time.

That's been my experience too.

I know the dates got pushed back, although now I don't remember excactly when, either mid-January or mid-Febuary. In this case, TRSI's 'on order' message means 'we didn't update the pre-order dates correctly.' I've seen it happen before to things I pre-ordered that had date changes. You shouldn't worry.

No they haven't. The new shows are single releases.
Funimation has been doing a lot of smart things. They are selling older shows in thin packs and box sets, putting the first three episodes of some of their shows on their site for free, They picked up most shows from Geneon and they might do the same if ADV sadly goes under.

Thank You, Funimation. Thank you for giving us back Hellsing, Black Lagoon 2nd Barrage and many others as well as reselling DragonBall Z in Season Box Sets

I remember BVUSA's volume 6 of HD DVD Freedom was "on order" for so long that the announcement of the complete set came out before my DVD shipped. I promptly canceled my volume 6 and ordered the complete Blu-ray set instead. I'm also waiting for volume 6 of Red Garden, Pumpkin, and NHK although all three volume 5s arrived in December. I think there will be some upset fans if Funimation decides to cancel these DVDs especially since they already released volume 5 and my suspicion is that the space between volume 5 and 6 was created (the original dates were rather close) for them to estimate sales since the volume 6 print run will most likely be closely related to volume 5. On the plus side Pumpkin box 2 was announced before volumes 5 and 6, so I inevitably ordered both.

I'm really happy that Funimation has started doing that! It's nice and convenient that it won't cost me an arm and a leg to enjoy some of the older titles, as well as being able to legally try out some anime I'm not sure about buying yet online.

Best Buy won't be carrying the Volume 6's for NHK, Pumpkin Scissors or Red Garden. These are primarily for online retailers. Though many locations still have the original ADV volumes in stock. And from what I've read on other forums, no one has been shipped any copies from Right Stuf or Anime Nation yet and they are still listed as "on order".

Funimation has been pushing a lot of street dates lately, it wouldn't surprise me if these were more of the same.

Even if Best Buy were able to stock the title, I doubt they would. We've been cutting our anime orders across the board. That's why one poster noted he was able to get Sasami Season 1, but the store didn't carry Season 2. My store for instance, didn't get the My HiME box, and won't get further seasons of One Piece due to poor sales of the previous releases.

I guess thats true. But the Best Buy near me has an okay anime section. It's good for a store like Best Buy. Of course the Best Buy near me is a newer one and seems to be oddly bigger than some of the others that I've been to (still not the biggest though). I will admit that Best Buy does seem to drop the ball when it comes to anime from time to time though. But you can't really blame them.

OK thanks for all the info! I guess I should have researched it a bit more.

Now I think we can close this...
