I have been trying to submit mine for some two years but everyone says the same thing "we can not give out that information." If that is the case, what am i suppose to do? I am at my rope's end here and am almost ready to put the whole anime series through a shredder and throw away some 10 years of work because nobody seems to want or care for it.

I'm not a professional writer, but I know a few, and they all tell me the same thing-if you want to work as a writer, you need an agent. No production company is going to be interested in a writer who doesn't have representation. And generally companies don't commission series from unknown writers-most writers who get their own series have proven themselves by doing professional work on other peoples' series first.

thanks for the reply - actually someone told me somthing similar to this before - i was just kinda hoping there was some other option i could explore but it seems not to be the case - seems a lot of groundwork will need to be covered first - well i am prepared to go the extra mile if my work finally gets some recognition - sort of my legacy i would like to leave behind
hmm, now what - where do i find writer employment . . . man and i thought the hard part was writing the series. . . they don't make any part of this easy i guess. |

Are you submitting it to a Japanese animation studio? If so is it in english or japanese? You can't expect to just send in a script for an anime and get it made. Most studios probablly have a lot of different movies, series, and OVA's waiting to be made, that were thought up by people who work at the animation studio, or know people there. Now they would usually go to people they know first rather than someone who just sends in a script. They also can't really accept a script and just keep it to use later or something because if they do something even remotely similar to things in your script without actually using your script they could get sued. I think there are already many threads and columns about getting a job in animation, so you might want to search for those, but unless you have some sort of inside connection I think it would be very difficult to have your script made into something.

Have you been mailing scripts all this time? How about next time you could mail a job application to a studio instead? If they hire you, then you might get a chance to show the executives or whoever your work.

<realitycheck>
1- Anime studios don't take unsolicited scripts(nor does Hollywood) 2- Anime studios don't take unsolicited scripts in English 3- Anime studios only take scripts they ask for in Japanese 4- No, Babelfish will not help you turn your English script into Japanese. If you want to write anime, first you have to learn to speak, read and write fluent Japanese. Then you need to get a job in an anime studio (who probably won't hire you without prior animation experience) in the lowest, crappiest PA type job, and work your way up, a process which certainly will take the better part of a decade. </realitycheck> In other words- Don't bother, and spend your time more productively elsewhere |

Grow up. If laserai truly wants to give it a shot, s/he should go for it. If your intention was to be helpful, please don't be sarcastic about it.

I dunno about anime studios, but many Hollywood studios and production companies do accept unsolicited scripts... That's how many script writers got their start. One just has to include a "release form", a document that protects the stuido from frivolous lawsuits from people who think they ripped off something they sent in. |

I'm not being sarcastic, it's a reality check, it's meant to be blunt and to the point
Yes, and if you check those people out, you'll find they got their start before the mid-1970s too. Things have changed, and unless you have an established agency representing you, they're not interested. They will return your script to you, unopened. |

You honestly expect me to believe that? "4- No, Babelfish will not help you turn your English script into Japanese." Don't mock people when they have serious questions. Laserai, you may want to read this article by Justin Leach, an American who's now an animator for Production IG. It's different from story submission, of course, but the background might be helpful. |

I believe I read this same article some time ago...or something like it a year ago. It was a inspiring and motivational to know Japanese company might actually hire a foreigner, but they'll probably start you off with lesser important jobs. ^^ That's why I incourage laserai to apply for a job to a studio first, the contribute your work. I'm planning to do the same thing actually, only as an animator.

Laserai's profile sez s/he lives in Huston; well, A. D. Vision is based in Huston, so getting a job or internship there would be a good way to meet people in the industry.

That's not mocking. I actually had someone tell me this in the past. Several someones in fact, that they would use translation software to change their scripts/games/whatever to Japanese. Only Japanese can make anime. If you want to make anime, do what Justin or Jan-Scott Frazier did. If you want to work on animation productions that happen to involve some Japanese animators, get a job at ADV.[/list] |

Another way to get to write anime is to do what the Matrix Brothers did; make something in the West that is popular in the East, so you've got enough cache to get eastern animators to work from your scripts.
