The story's definitely not going to go in the direction you expect it to in volume 8. So if you're hoping for something awesome and earth-shattering, then forget it. But if you don't mind the author turning Episode 25 + 26 of Evangelion on you-but without the pretension-then you'll hopefully still enjoy it. Either way, I hope Natsume doesn't jerk me around as much on Batman.

Why do I have this suspicion that Togari is absolutely nothing like what you describe, and that you're just shamelessly name-dropping Eva out of some weird obsession of hatred/contempt you have for that series and Anno?
I haven't read Togari, but it was apparently cancelled in Japan -- hence the abrupt ending.

I actually read Togari and to me it was really interesting but the final volume spoiled everything. (I actually mentioned it in the what are you reading right now? thread). The story is believable enough and quite real in spite of the supernatural aspect of it. Plus it talks in a very interesting manner about the human nature and this is why I actually enjoyed it. Thus it is frustrating that it didn't have the ending that it deserved. And the ending it's not abrupt, but more like an opened one, as all the things were dragged on without a definite solution and leaving the reader to think that it may be one day when the story will be re-writen and it might have an actual ending. Too bad that it was cancelled (but if Yoshinori Natsume knew this, at least he could have ended it - the story permitted it at least )

If it was canceled, I'm surprised DC would want to pick him up, considering he should be more popular. Or maybe that's the reason, since he's a cheaper hire for them.
