Me either.
Nobody? Ever? Not even for a cute little kitten after she sneezes? What kind of person doesn’t feel moe then?
I don’t know if this is real or not, but I get the same feeling you do about this.
I don’t think lolicon and moe are alike at all. The earliest memory of feeling “moe” was when I was watching The Shining. Does anything in that movie look like lolicon to you?
I never had any male babysitters that I can recall. Anyone else? |

In my understanding of the term: "emo" generally refers to middle-class to upper-middle class adolescents who feel that their lives are either too "soft" or "meaningless", so they imagine sufferings that they feel they must be going through, or magnify any inconvenience 10x in order for their lives to have "meaning".
Thus, every crush is TRUE LOVE! and every rejection is SOUL-SHATTERING PAIN!!1!. (CRAWWWling in my skin, these wounds! they will not heeeeeeal.) They don't have real emotions, they over-emote. Anime is unrealistic to begin with, being as the civilized world tends to frown on child soldiers, but has no problem portraying them in scores of anime series. Honestly, will the fate of the world rest with a high school freshman? Or the 37 year old test pilot? |

At least you've never been asked if you spoke "Asian." For whatever reason, it seems to me that using the word "emo" as a put-down has now become overly popular, as if it were some disease that made your fall off. I've seen one person at my school calling another emo because the latter cried when he partially tore their ACL...god forbid they show some emotion. |

That's not entirely true, infact for me I've found the other way round. Moe started out to mean a sweet emotional feeling toward anything cute, and fragile, wanting to hug and caress protectively like a cute baby animal, or human. But like emo, it has been over used and misinterpreted. It has become an anagram for lolicom which sadly has polluted its original meaning with filth, like when someone calls (Pee Wee's secret word) moe, and the like. So that said, I have felt moe, in its original meaning, toward my children and kittens and puppies, etc. If ever I find I feel moe in the more recent meaning, it's off to Beachy Head with a case of Stella and sunrise on the rocks. For all you do, this Stella's for you. |

I have been called emo for showing no emotion at all. I don't really remember but something happened that shocked all my friends (something trivial I'm sure) and I said nothing then I got called emo I always feel moe toward kittens and puppies and babies (isn't that natural?) But I think that moe has become the same as lolicon because they are looked at as the same thing or maybe even moe leads to lolicon or something like that. Well it's a good thing kodomo no jikan got no attention from the american media or churches.

Count me as an other who just rolls their eyes at the over use of the word 'emo'. It seems like if you feel sad at all about anything, that makes you emo.
OMG! His beloved pet he had since he was a small child died and he's sad. He's so emo. OMG! His mother died and he's sad. He's so emo. OMG! He just killed someone and feels sad about it. He's so emo. It's like we're so used to the stoic gung-ho hero who has a very limited range of emotions and doesn't feel any "negative" emotions, that when we encounter a character with a normal emotional spectrum, they must be emo (I blame shonen fighters for this). For the record, I DO think Shinji qualifies as emo. Yeah, he had reason to be sad and depressed, but he went overboard with it and let it define his existance. On the other hand, I thought Kira was one of the most emotionally normal and realistic characters I've seen in anime. Yeah, he gets sad and cries, but most of the time he kept his sadness in check. On top of that, he experienced a full range of emotions, not just sadness.
To be fair, Kira had a crush on Flay before they even talked to each other. Additionally, while the viewer got to see both sides of Flay and knew her alterior motive, Kira didn't. Kira only got to see the nice side of Flay that actually seemed to care about him and what he was going through. Even when Flay insulted him early on, it was usually something indirect and inadvertent, and she always apologized afterwards. |

Also to be fair there is no proof that shinji was really in love with auska. He seemed to be unsure of this himself.

Heh, I guess you could say I'm pretty guilty of using the "emo" label a bit too much sometimes. But I don't really recall ever using it negatively or as an insult or in the wrong way or anything. Mostly I just use it to be sarcastic or just as a joke. Or at least I try to just keep it at that anyways. Hopefully no one out there thinks I've ever misused it, and if they do then I must apologize to them quickly, because that was never my intention.
Anyways, I actually have one other time when I feel like I'm justified to use it. And that is when I believe it perfectly fits what the definition should be, in which case I certainly agree with what others have already said on the issue. Basically, it just applies to someone who gets overly emotional about stupid, trivial things, or even really nothing at all, just to be that way for the heck of it, just because they think it's "cool" or whatever. The only time I think it applies to one who feels sad or emotional over something that makes perfectly sense to be is when instead of working to overcome those problems or feelings and improve as a person, they instead embrace those sad, emotional feelings and decide to live in a world of misery and pain for whatever reason. For the most part though, it's because they're too afraid to face their inner demons. (i.e., Shinji )
I don't think this is a fair thing to say at all. It's like you're saying it's a bad thing for a character, especially a hero, to be a good upstanding role model for people to look up to and be inspired by. I mean sure, it may not be a very realistically portrayed character, yeah, but that doesn't mean they're bad characters either. I mean really, your basic typical shounen hero is no different from your basic typical superhero. And even then, not all of them are all perfect 100% of the time, with "limited emotions" or whatnot. In fact for the most part I've yet to see a good shounen hero NOT have to face certain challenges in which they have conflicting emotions, or to experience tragedies in which they're forced to get over themselves. And of course don't forget the always so present "dark or tragic pasts" that most of them have or the "tough situations" (i.e. Naruto being such an outcast, Gon from HxH not knowing who his real parents are, not ever even knowing his father). I think all of these things go hand in hand with the "stoic gung-ho hero" idea in that it makes a point that's true to everyday life, and quite frankly is a very inspirational one. Like I say, you're not emo if you actually have the courage to overcome and face these problems or feelings and become a better, stronger person because of it. Anyways, enough of this emo/eva/whatever else arguement...... All I have to say to the idea of people thinking all anime is porn is that with words such as hentai, yaoi, yuri, and especially, ESPECIALLY fanservice (ESPECIALLY in series that don't even need it...... like, say, certain particular shows made for younger and family friendly audiences...... ) is it any wonder why there are so many people that do? |

Apparently, someone got offended by my stoking the urban legend that Batman is gay. I didn't mean it in a "homosexuality is evil" way, like Falwell, but in a, "Scooby Doo and Shaggy eat pot brownies" nudge at the series. [Well, actually, I was thinking more on the same line as those yaoi fan-girls...]

Thats not really fair. 1) Of course Kira has a good life but if anything that adds to the impact of then being thrown into the situation he was. 2) Destiny was god-awful and doesn't count. 3) Flay wasn't really that bad to begin with. She was nice enough (albeit a bit spoiled) up until her father's death. She doesn't become a total bitch until after her and Kira are together. At that point he dumps her ass. 4) There are a lot of socially awkward, less popular guys who would get involved with a bitchy but attractive, popular girl who was interested in them. Its not necessarily a smart move but it's not really relevant to being emo either. |

I can't understand why anyone would wanna live in Dragonball's world (hello, I was just walking along the street when suddenly some idiot from the sky killed me)
Pokemon? It's nothing so cute when real-life humans start using them for all their wicked purposes.
Not interested in the game. "safest, most slice of life" you're dead wrong
/me snaps fingers Yeah I also love the series to death. It's like some sort of Utopian society where I fear that my sinful soul will have a hard time blending into. And we know how well-advanced technology on Man-Home is. BTW, what with the attack on the usage of "emo"? There's a difference between having a kind heart and being a wimpy little wuss. If I hate a character or someone enough for being so, I'll just call them "emo" blatantly. I sure don't call Nausicaa emo. Emo >< GAR. LOTR = GARRR! And Zac's reply doesn't help. Provided that I have a very good chance of killing that guy and getting away with it, I'll do it. If I deem it too risky, the chances are I'll turn his stupid request down, kicking him in the groin if need be. Most likely he won't be any braver than I am. |
