I just wanted to report an issue I'm having with Topic reply emails. Starting about 36 hours ago, I stopped receiving emails from approx. 4 different threads I'm watching/participating. In the past, this would occasionally happen to one thread, but as soon as I visited said thread, the emails would resume. So far, this has not worked.

Are there any email problems going on with the site, or am I just an unlucky person?

UPDATE:

Now I'm not receiving any emails for any topics I'm watching.

They aren't being caught by a spam or junk filter either.

UPDATE 2:

Well, whatever it was, it seems everything is back to normal... whew!

Well, I'm going to give this thread a bump because the issue has cropped up yet again. Starting Friday morning, I haven't received any topic reply emails.

Hmm. Could this be a sort-of annual glitch?

It has now been one week and I still am not receiving topic reply emails.

Is it just me, or is there a problem with the site?

This is definitely not a situation where someone needs to drop everything and address it, but could someone at some point check the system to see if there is a problem?

It is a hotmail account, so there is no spam filter. I get everything and then decide if it is junk or not. There is simply nothing being sent, at least from my perspective.

No-one else has reported a problem thus far..
I assume you've checked the junk mail folder in Hotmail? Have you tried adding [email protected] to your contacts?

Yeah, I've checked everything on my end. I opened the hotmail account specifically for ANN, so that do not reply address is one of only two contacts on that account. I am receiving other email, just none from ANN.

Two weeks and counting.

I did get one email Monday morning at 12:31am from the Your Avatar thread, but nothing since.

I stopped receiving emails for watched threads a couple of months ago, myself. No idea what the issue is. No junk mail folder filtering on my end, and the account works when I test it.

Three weeks and counting.

I see that at least one other user has the same problem.

Perhaps the fact that ANN needs new hardware has something to do with it? Anything's possible at this point.

The problem is that hotmail is bouncing our notification emails. I tried to fix the problem but that backfired hard. So at this point the only suggestion I can make is to stop using hotmail. Sad

For the record, my account isn't with hotmail, but with Roadrunner, my ISP. Though they may be bouncing also for all I know.

However, on that topic, just as of a day or two ago I've started receiving notifications again for the first time in months. Dunno if someone here changed something or not, but figured I'd report.

Perhaps I should contact support for hotmail and knock some heads together.

EDIT:
Well, I just sent a message to Windows Live support detailing the issue. Let's see what, If anything, they have to say.

None of the ANN servers are on any of the major spamlists like SORBS. IIRC this sort of thing can happen with Hotmail if a few people click "this is spam" on an email from ANN. Or am I thinking of AOL? I certainly remember them struggling with this at Futurequest a numer of years ago, and the mail servers at the ISP I work for used to have problems with mail to and from Hotmail due to SORBS listings.

Well, it seems that Windows Live now has a support forum. I joined and have detailed the problem on a thread where other people have had mail bounced back. Hopefully, they can help.

I had this same problem with my previous account here with an AOL address. I am reluctant to switch to my AOL email here for fear that this will happen again.

I have been contacted by a Windows Live support tech. She wanted a copy of the email that was bounced and it's final destination. I don't know if that could be supplied by Dan 42, but if possible, it may help. I did give them a copy of one of only three emails that actually got to me in the past 4 weeks.

I guess we'll see.

Oh, and they wanted to know if any other members here w/hotmail are also having this issue, so if you are, please speak up. Thanks.
