Nothing really knew hear. Japan has been cracking down anime piracy much more in the last few years. Heck, with the amount of dubs/fansubs/downloading I've watched, I know I may be caught someday.

Speaking of file-sharing, I'm suprised you haven't mentioned that recent ruling against Google, in which the ID of Youtube users are to be shared with Viacom.

There's no way that Google will comply with that order. Otherwise they'll be looking at a class action lawsuit so big it may very well destroy them. It'll be tied up in courts for quite some time I think. |

Unless they can appeal it in their favor, they'll have to comply.

If you don't live in JP, I don't think any U.S/JP companies have the resources and logistics to go after pirates in other countries. |

I doubt that will be a problem, not every judge can be a complete idiot. |

The Youtube (Google) ruling doesn't involve giving Viacom the person details of any of the people, just download statistics I think. Or at least that's how the BBC reported it.

If Japan thinks the law against uploaders will stop filesharing, they are sadly mistaken. The uploaders will just send it to someone outside of Japan (outside of Japan's legal reach) and they will upload it to the networks for them.

The ruling orders YouTube to relinquish log-in names and IP addresses. -------- You do hear about uploaders being afraid of jail time nowadays on certain sites so it's having some effect. |

LOL I guess that goes to show that American anime fans aren't the only ones that are too cheap to buy their favorite shows, it's worldwide!

Although if Japan stamps out people uploading anime there, then how will people be able to get the new shows? Kinda kills the problem for the most part. |

Sending the file to somebody else to upload .... kinda sounds like uploading to me. If this is an actual safe-harbor built into the law to let folks "share with friends" in a more conventional 1-on-1 manner then I wouldn't bother importing any Macs to test it, just assume a whole fleet would fit. |

I know Viacom was trying, but haven't kept up. However Viacon isn't dealing with anime so ANN wouldn't mention it. I would think something like YouTube would just have to turn over the names, etc of the people posting the stuff, not just watching it. If they policed their stupid site better themselves this wouldn't have happened. It has to be against YouTube rules to post that stuff so if YouTube wanted to, they could ban people posting illegal content until the message got out not to do it & they wouldn't be in that position. Yes, these people posting this stuff have to know it's wrong, but YouTube is letting them get away with it, so these people sort of feel protected it seems.
I have never seen the point of posting an episode of some show YOU didn't have squat to do with making on a place called YouTube(Where's the "You"? in a Naruto or Bleach ep?) Viacom-I'm all for protecting the rights of the creative types so yeah, you have no right beyond your personal viewing pleasures for any movie or show. |

Yueh: Part of the problem is that anime fans might be using some of their songs and/or videos as AMVs, so they could be sued, too. Plus, if given the power, they could theoretically sue you, just for watching info-tainment clips from The Daily Show.
