TJM, while that may be true for you (By your comment I'm assuming you've seen several Macross series) as the Macross formula is old hat to you now, as a new Macross fan who's only ever seen Macross Frontier (And 1 episode of Zero) I think its great. I really enjoy the storyline, the animation is great, and the blend of music and love triangles into an otherwise shonen-esque Anime is brand new for me. As such, any new content they want to put out for Macross Frontier is something I'll probably enjoy.
I think this is a good example of Old Guard vs. New Guard which you can find everywhere, similar to the Book vs. Movie argument. I will say though, even in the situations where by default I'm part of the Old Guard, I've never begrudged anyone for bringing the same or a similar story back in a new medium, if you don't like it ce la vie, but there's always a chance you will, and in no case do you actually lose anything. |

I will not bother to comment on TJM.
Anyway, I think the series rocks, but I am angry because I will never get a USA release of any of this because of the whole legal mess between Big West and Harmony Gold. I would love to read these Magazines and novels, but I don't read Kanji!!!!!!! Guess I need to learn fast! |

No it's not an example of Old Guard vs New Guard. There is a difference between a long running series that gets new adaptations every so often and something like Macross which is just the exact.same.thing. over and over and over. You'll learn
And nothing of value was lost. |

This is only the third television series in 25 years for Macross, so the former description would seem to apply better. As for the "exact same thing" complaint, one would hardly argue that Macross Frontier is "exactly" the same as Macross Plus or 7. That's a misleading statement. |

Right you are, they are the same, not saying XX is better than XX, they are both equally as cliched and boring. There's nothing misleading about it because it is the truth, Macross Frontier is the same exact show that has been milked for 25 years.

"Exact." You keep saying that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. Either that, or accept that overuse of exaggeration (Macross Frontier is exactly the same as Plus?) diminishes one's argument, not strengthens it. (That, and accept that opinions can be examples of "truthiness," but not truth.) |

How can I not exaggerate when talking about such an awful series? Can you blame me? |

So it's clear that the Producers knew who their target audience was |

Ignoring the name-calling and the profanity, you should add "fact" to "truth," "exact," and the other words that shouldn't be misused. There are people who think this series is enjoyably written and directed, and trash-talking them with name-calling and profanity is not going to make your off-note opinion "fact."

Like I said
the producers knew who they were dealing with HEH, theres always a rabid otaku or two ready to defend these shows I love it when they're all passiveaggressive It's been good, I'm out of here Last edited by TJM on Fri Jun 27, 2008 6:39 pm; edited 2 times in total |

You do realize the ratings in the 40+ crowd for Macross Frontier is very high compared to nearly every other demographic. A lot of old school Macross fans are watching as well as the otaku crowd and fangirls.

So...no more odd attempts at ad hominem attacks, to disguise the lack of a coherent argument? That's good to hear. |

it's true that the various Macross projects have all been variations on the same themes..music/art as a unifying force between cultures, flight being the ultimate freedom, love triangles..
some were good(Plus), some were amazing(Zero) and some were absolutely awful(7)..Frontier, being an anniversary edition, is specifically made for people that enjoy exploring these various retelling...which you snidely refer to as "So it's clear that the Producers knew who their target audience was", which is entirely true...but i'm not sure why you choose to use that as some sort of insult. all that being said, you don't like the show, that's fine...now stop trolling. or don't, you're obviously way too cool for anyone on here. |
