I'm looking for an action oriented/sword slashing manga with a good storyline? Any and all recommendations would be most appreciated. I'm new to the world of manga and don't know a lot about it yet. I recently purchased Rurouni Kenshin (VIZBIG Edition) and have enjoyed it immensely!

Well, you can't go wrong with Bleach. Even if you watch the anime, the manga is worth getting because the artwork and style in general is just SO much better. At the beginning it's more sword vs. monsters, but then it's mostly swords vs. swords. It's a really fun read.

Haven't read Rurouni Kenshin, but I definitely agree about Claymore. If you get into Claymore, though, don't get turned off by the early volumes, especially the first one. It's not like they are bad or anything, but they aren't nearly as good as the rest of the series and cause a lot of people to dismiss the series as a generic "monster of the week" series, when it's not at all like that. |

Agreed and thirded on Claymore. Some of the early chapters might make the series seem generic but it's just to make the revelations that follow that much more powerful. Plenty of action, outstanding drama, and even a little romance here and there.
It is a fantasy with monsters (epically scary ones at that once you get past the early weak ones) and a large cast of rich and surprisingly well-rounded characters. |

What no one suggested Berserk? If you can handle some ultra violince I highly recomend it. It's a great dark medieval series.

True, though it's got a bit more than just violence. Lot's of disturbing scenes, and while I don't want to say too much because of spoilers, I'll just say I would never want to be a woman in the world of Berserk. |

Haha, I had to quote that because of 'ultra violence'. I couldn't even finish A Clockwork Orange... Anyways, I will say that I agree that Bleach is really fun, both in terms of fights and characters, but it is much more of a fantasy sword things. Really, there is nothing quite like Rurouni Kenshin if you are looking for something that is Japanese, medieval, and vaguely realistic (though, not really, hence the vaguely). |

Never can go wrong w/ bleach and i support what people have said about claymore they are both good series.

Bleach is probably the best bet on sword-slashing anime. However, I'll also recommend Le Chevalier D'Eon. Pre-Revolutionary France, beautiful dames, strong lords, mystical stuff-what else could a sword-slashing fan want?

Lone Wolf & Cub, if you want some Edo period historical samurai drama. Action sequences are some of the greatest in manga, by the legend Goseki Kojima and Kazuo Koike.
