Manganimation assumes that one of those projects could be Shikabane Hime (based on speculations at Moonphase).
Regardless of what it will be, I am looking forward to any Gainax project. It's also great that one project is scheduled for a fall release in 2008 so it's not that long of a wait anymore. |

Bleach+Shakugan no Shana+Full Metal Panic? I'm getting exited already, I will have to go Google for more information on this Shikabane Hime. Edit: NVM, just looked up the manga and from the summary it sounds nothing like SNS/FMP =( |

...Not sure about the premise of Shikabane Hime, but it wouldn't hurt to find more about it, if only the manga was out (can't read Japanese sadly; it would make that my third language but I'll be able to find out more about it than now) . Ah well, hope they break a leg --as a figure of speech.
But it's still speculation. At any rate I'm glad about the news. |

I live in SF, but I can't be at FanimeCon due to my weekend job....
I love to meet to Yoh Yoshinari and Sushio. Those guys are amazing animators. If you're a hardcore RPG videogamer, Yoh Yoshinari did character designs with his sibling, Kou, for Valkyrie Profile. Sushio MAD videos (animation scenes he worked on) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wklTlsbX6mw Yoh Yoshinari MAD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVxybMPhNdE |

Yeah, I have the game and VP1 artbook, it's awesome! Ah...good times, this was way back in '99. ^^ I can't believe I found the artbook so cheap in eBay, taking into account that my Strat guide and game are around 100 USD, well strat guide along with the game, if not then the game alone is kinda like 100 USD still. But you always have the PSP version. Nice trip into memory lane. ^^ |

How much was it in Ebay? $20 range? Kinokunia bookstore sells the 2 volume set for $68.

The two books was 50-60 range, so I just took it as cheap without knowing. ^^; I probably spent $65 or so, it was quite a while ago though. Sadly I don't remember the starting bid wether it was $50 or $60 maybe around 50+ USD...., however I do remember no one else making a bid on it while on auction.
Now I wish it was $20 range at the time. I'll make a trip to my closest Kinokuniya store in New York, mine was in "like new" condition but used none the less the spine wasn't broken only the exterior "folder-thing" the thing where you put both books was on one corner slightly compressed,...and if I find it in mint condition there...I'll cry tears of blood! >.<; Edit: I'm kidding, too bad I didn't check Kinokuniya. |

Otaku.com sells the set for $70. I saw it at a con once, and was interested, but didn't have the money to spend. Yoh Yoshinari also did some of the more memorable Angel designs for Evangelion. |

Whether it is $50 or $70, we still have to pay sales tax and shipping. When I buy a Japanese artbook, I immediately put it the same kind of book cover used in public library. It keeps my book in good condition and those books go out of print pretty fast.
What I hate about Fanime Con is that they're ill-prepared for guest announcement. That seem to happen every year. If I knew Gainax was bring in Yoh Yoshinari and Sushio, I would've prepared a list of tight questions within a day. People here seem to have unusually high respect for any artist who does character & mecha designs, which is good and all. However I see things differently now. What about people who does background designs? Don't they deserve the same attention as well? I do have my favorite designers, but I realized that it's more one-sided to judge animation artists solely on design skills. Another thing is that designs and trend come and go. Once hot character designs become obsolete within 10 years by standards of new generation. One thing I noticed is that once popular character designers are focusing on their energy on becoming better animators or illustrators when there is no demand for their designs. To me, it's more incredible to see how they animate better expression of motions than past 5 years. |
