Wow, the light novels coming over really has me excited again over Haruhi. Now if only Kyoto Animation will stop working on frivolous h-game based tripe and get back to animating the Haruhi stories, we'll have a second season to be excited about.

Oh, there's a reason for that! Of course I nearly fell off my chair when I first read that PR. |

Considering how enormously successful Hannah Montana has been, and by extension the actual girl who plays her, I'd think equating Haruhi to it would not only be a really good thing to do but an incredible sign of the faith they have in the property. Plus, wouldn't it make a lot of sense to get those girls and boys who like Hannah Montana to take notice of Haruhi? Hell, even if it's just a small percentage, it would still be a hell of a lot of people.
I think it's time fans started to realize that there aren't enough of us alone to justify everything the companies release. While it's being felt mostly by the DVD releases, there are predictions of manga publishers having problems too. Wouldn't it be in all of our best interests to get MORE people into anime/manga/light novels? If we really care about the stories and the characters and the creators, shouldn't we be trying harder to get people to try them? Doesn't that require us to make some connection to something outside the realm of anime/manga/light novels? If it makes Haruhi's sales go higher, why should any of us have a problem with it? |

Considering that it was published in "PW Children's Weekly" I have a bad feeling about the translation. It just won't be Haruhi without her "playfulness" with Mikuru-chan!

I foresee a digital breast reduction on every relevant frame. |

No, no, no! I like Haruhi and all and am happy it's getting licensed (about time!) but by a children's company?! Doesn't anyone see something wrong with that? The whole book will be censored, I'll bet. It'll probably be translated the same way 4Kids "translates" anime. Bye, Haruhi Suzimiya, hello, Hailey Stuarts. And just bye, Mikuru. D:
I don't wanna be a pessimist but I don't have too much to hope for. Why couldn't Seven Seas get it? TT-TT |

Sometimes it just comes down to a company bidding more money than anyone else. |

Why are people so excited that its being licensed by a KIDS company?? You know...the kinds of companies that takes a show...and tries to 'widen' the demographic and 'americanize' a product so that viewers could understand it...this doesnt look good at all...their gonna make it all 'age appropriate' and get rid of any 'objectionable' content...just look at what 4kids can do to one piece or yugioh...or look at what happened to cardcaptors...if something like yugioh is censored to the point where the entire story is altered, imagine what would happen to this.
Plus....I never knew Hannag Montana was popular...I guess its one of those tweens things... |

I'm not sure about the light novels, but they did say this about the manga.
"each volume is rated OT (Older Teen) and will cost $10.99 at retail." Assuming the manga isn't any more extreme than the anime, that means there should be a chance it is being released unedited. Of course, I'm sure there could be some editing even with the OT rating. I'm more interested in the light novels myself, as I understand those are actually the original source material, and the manga is just an adaption of those, like the anime. |

I think with the "young readers" thing they're referring more to "young adults", which is...a pretty broad category. I've read "young adult" books that have rape scenes in them, so if it's going to be advertised as a young adult book I don't think they'd have to tone down any of the Mikuru scenes.

Now parents who buy their little kids books to read wouldnt know that young readers can be this broad do they...remember, parents are usually really lazy and judges books by their cover. On a side note...Im pretty sure even books and games meant for little kids can have rape in them...or at the very least IMPLIED rape...I mean think about, Ill use the game Super Mario as an example... Bowser is constantly trying to kidnap the princess to he could 'marry' her...now of course they dont see what he could possibly be doing to the princess while the player plays as Mario to pass levels and such. But if a villain as evil as Bowser would manage to kidnap a PRINCESS and proclaim that he would MARRY her...its pretty obvious what is implied is happening during the entire course of the game off screen. And since the Princess in Mario gets kidnapped like in every game, people stopped wondering whats happening all the time. Anyways, this point proves that even forms of enterainment aimed at 5 year olds can contain something that parents could object to...its just delivered differently and cleverly hidden...so dont be too surprised that young adult books could have actual rape scenes. |

I'm not saying I'm surprised by the rape scenes. I'm saying that if this book is advertised as a book for teens/young adults, I don't see why it should be censored.
As for the Super Mario scene, I don't think they were implying rape so much as he was trying to take over her country. Sounds more like someone reading too much into things to me. |
