The new brackets with the Round 1 Group B results has been posted at: http://home.comcast.net/~unirizer2/

I also have updated the official Mini-Game scores at the bottom of the page.

There was a lot of number crunching involved, so I easily could have made a mistake. Please if you see a mistake with your score PM ASAP and I will double check your original entry form.

Enjoy.

Voting template, as always, you don't have to use it if you don't want to, but it may save you some time and trouble. I've added a new optional category, likelihood of vote change, which, as its name suggests, refers to how likely you are to change your vote given campaigning, Key's guide, etc. Once again, it's optional, but it could be very helpful to those campaigners who want all the unsure people to vote for their duo of choice.

Am I? Damn. Then I'll update the Guide to include them as soon as someone posts a good supporting argument for them (as I don't know them at all).

EDIT: The Guide has now been updated to include the Kaleido Star duo.

Concerning the Princess Tutu pair losing last group: they should have. I love Tutu and argue its merits as much as anyone around here, but let's face it, the Rue/Mytho pairing wasn't half as well-established in PT as Kirikain/Mireille in Noir. Are they an appealing pair? Definitely, but not one of the stronger ones, and they had the misfortune to run into a strong one.

And to think that in this coming round I'm going to have to vote against Scrapped Princess, another of my favorites, for the same reason. . . Crying or Very sad

Group C-1

Edward & Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist
Reason: While technically a duo of sorts Mugen and Jin would just as soon fight each other then help each other for most of the show. Comparing that to the love of 2 brothers who have gone through what the Elric's have is an easy choice for who should win this match. I mean Ed gave part of his body to save Al's soul for crying out loud.

Group C-2

Layla Hamilton & Sora Naegino from Kaleido Star
Reason: I have not seen Romeo and Juliet and even if I had I would still vote for Layla and Sora. This series is one of the more emotional series I've seen where friendship and hard work are the 2 core values here. And after all the work and effort in the end Sora and Kayla just work amazingly well together and compliment each other perfectly.

Group C-3

Sophie Hatter & Wizard Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle
Reason: I have not seen Simon & Nia from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann in action together but from the clips I've seen and what I've heard I still think Sophie and Howl are the stronger duo IMO. I mean she goes through so much to help him and the movie was beautiful.

Group C-4

Spike Spiegal & Jet Black from Cowboy Bebop
Reason: While Chii & Hideki Motosuwa are cute they can hardly compare to the team of Jet and Spike. They work together perfectly well together and go through a whole hell of a lot more together then Chii and Hideki.

Group C-5

Zagato & Princess Emeraude from Magic Knight Rayearth
Reason: I like both shows and both pairs but I think Zagato and Emeraude are the stronger one. I have a weakness forspoiler[ star crossed lovers ]on opposite sides. The ending of the first season truly solidifed why they should win.

Group C-6

Talho & Holland from Eureka 7
Reason: The hardships these two go through and the love and commitment they have for each other during it all easily makes them the winner here.

Group C-7

Miaka Yuuki & Tamahome from Fushigi Yuugi
Reason: Not a huge fan of either show mind you but I liked Fushigi Yuugi more of the two and likewise Miaka and Tamahome as the duo to win.

Group C-8

Batou & Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell: SAC
Reason: Kei & Mizuho are cute and the series was endearing, especially the ending, but as a duo they pale in comparison to the strength that Motoko and Batou have together. They're 2 cogs in a wheel and make that wheel work properly. Horrible metaphor, I know lol. Regardless they're the much stronger and tight knit of the two duos.

Group C-9

Yuji Kaidou & Marlene Angel from Blue Gender
Reason: Neither couple is that strong honestly. Guu and Hare are more of a comedy act then a tight knit duo. And Marlene spends the first half of the show being aloof and a bit cold. Though at the end of the two shows I must say Yuji and Marlene are the stronger of the two when they open up to each other towards the end. Plus this is another instance of where the ending really makes the decision easier to make.

Group C-10

Lupin & Zenigata from Lupin III
Reason: Both pairs are classics from older shows. I remember watching both when I got into anime. Both make me feel a bit nostalgic but I gotta go with my boy Lupin here. He's just too cool not to vote for in this round heh.

Group C-11

Juubei Kakei & Kazuki Fuchoin from Getbackers
Reason: As a Getbackers fanboy I gotta go with my andom on this one. While not as awesome a duo as Ban and Ginji Juubei and Kadzuki are arguably the second or third strongest duo from the series. Juubei's clan has protected Kadzuki's for a long time and at an early age Juubei pledges himself to Kadzuki to protect him. Their childhood friendship becomes very important when later on these both find themselves on opposite sides after being seperated for years. Suffice to say they're childhood friends and would both sacrifice themselves for the other.

Group C-12

James & Jessie from Pokemon
Reason: I cannot believe I am doing this. I am actually going to vote for Jesse and James here as they are the stronger and more dynamic of the duos in this match. I don't think they can or should win in round 2 but despite my distaste for the series I have to admit they're the more dynamic duo in this match.

Group C-13

Meryl Stryfe & Milly Thompson from Trigun
Reason: Naru spends most of the series beating up Keitaro. While their issues get resolved in the manga after a full series and OVA's they're fate in the anime is still up for grabs with Naru kicking Keitaro the doormat around. Meryl and Milly however are good friends and work well together even in tough situations. I also personally think Milly was one of the strongest characters in Trigun emotionally at heart.

Group C-14

Rock & Revy from Black Lagoon
Reason: Well both pairs have one partner acting crass or beating up the other in the pair but between the two I think Rock and Revy compliment each other far better then Dita and Hibiki. Plus I think Rock and Revy are also both more interesting and capable then Hibiki and Dita. And there's also Revy's nice booty shorts lol.

Group C-15

Hubb & Cher from Wolf’s Rain
Reason: I think neither duo are the strongest duos from their respective series but I think between the two pairs Hubb and Cher are the stronger and work better together.

Group C-16

Christmas & Kurau from Kurau Phantom Memory
Reason: I enjoyed Scrapped Princess but there is no way in God's green earth Shannon and Pacifica can compare to the bonds between Christmas and Kurau. I mean they literally complete the others. Plus the entire show is basically built around them and their struggle to be happy and together while discovering what the Rainax are. There are countless examples of the two of them fighting for the other throughout the series.

I know your pain with the Scrapped Princess duo but they got a bad draw. If only they had been up against Jesse and James heh. The problem I had with Kirika and Mireille is that there always seemed to be an air of distance between them through most of the series. Kirika choosing Mireille over Cloe felt more like her choosing her new life over her previous life and not Mireille over Cloe. And I thoroughly enjoyed Noir mind you. But to each their own.

Group C-1
Edward & Alphonse vs. Jin & Mugen

Winner: Edward and Alphonse. Throughout the series, their bond as siblings has passed through many, MANY things, and they still stick together. I think the end of the series wasn't the best way to end FMA, but I believe and hope that this duo may go on for quite a while.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Low. VERY low.

Group C-2
Layla & Sora vs. Romeo & Juliet

Winner: Layla and Sora. A friend of mine told me about Kaleido Star and I found it interesting after investigating a bit (though I haven't seen the series). As many people here know, I favor friendship pairings more than romantic pairings unless I have a big reason for the latter. So my vote goes to them.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Very low. I don't like Romeo and Juliet.

Group C-3
Simon & Nia vs. Sophie & Howl

Winner: Sophie and Howl. OK, this is one of the romantic pairings I defend with everything. I loved THIS movie, and somehow I can be a bit identified with Sophie (but not too much). I'm not going into details, but this is a pairing I wish to see here for quite the time.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Low.

Group C-4
Chii & Hideki vs. Spike & Jet

Winner: Spike and Jet. This was actually a group that required me to get the ole 100-peso coin out. Both are pairings I know and I like, so I had to leave it to Lady Luck. A shame, but I'd like to see a tie on this one.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Medium.

Group C-5
Riku & Daisuke vs. Zagato & Emeraude

Winner: Riku and Daisuke. Zagato and Emeraude are a strong pair, due to their spoiler[Romeo and Juliet-like romance], but I'm not much into it. On the other hand, Riku and Daisuke's relationship develops over time, having spoiler[some quite hilarious and some quite touching moments]. And heck, I love D.N.Angel's soundtrack, so I'm already biased.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Very low.

Group C-6
Talho & Holland vs. Sato & Misaki

Winner: Sato and Misaki. Reading the guide helped me in this one, though I don' know any of these couples. And eh, my cat's called Misaki, so there may be something there.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Medium.

Group C-7
Yukito & Touya vs. Miaka & Tamahome

Winner: Yuki and Touya. I may not like them too much, but I've seen them, so it's the classic reason: Going with the ones I know.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Medium to high.

Group C-8
Batou & Motoko vs. Kei & Mizuho

Winner: Batou and Motoko. Haven't seen either series, but Ghost in the Shell has always been something I wanted to see. And hey, teammates need to work with each other. Yeah, bad soccer reference.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Low.

Group C-9
Yuji & Marlene vs. Hare & Guu

Winner: Yuji and Marlene. Haven't seen either series, but eh, I like things that develop through time. And Haré + Guu seems to me like that kind of series I despise.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Low.

Group C-10
Lum & Ataru vs. Lupin & Zenigata

Winner: Lupin and Zenigata. These two crack me up. Sorry for Lum and Ataru (Takahashi Rumiko fan here), but seeing how these two have been bitter rivals and allies sure makes these strong contendors in this.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Very low.

Group C-11
Juubei & Kazuki vs. Hayate & Himeno

Winner: Juubei and Kadzuki. Definitely my FAVORITE couple in the contest. Juubei's dedication to spoiler[protecting Kadzuki ever since they were little, and the way he confused his protegé (sp?) with a girl] got me almost in tears. And it's mutual spoiler[(the onsen episode was a tearjerker in my case... Seeing Kadzuki being like that made me think he is a beautiful, yeah, BEAUTIFUL character, inside and out]. So no matter what they say, I'm rooting for these two very dedicated FRIENDS.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): The same as hell freezing over.

Group C-12
Jessie & James vs. Kazumi & Noriko

Winner: Jessie and Ja-me-me-mes (Sorry, that's how he calls himself in the Latin American dub.) I may dislike Jessie, but these two as a team are hilarious. My vote goes to them because I've always thought that spoiler[James should have a chance at being anything other than a thief. He's proven to be a very nice guy.]. This is missing Meowth, but it's a duo contest, not a trio contest.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Very low.

Group C-13
Meryl & Milly vs. Naru & Keitaro

Winner: Meryl and Milly. Nothing against Naru and Keitaro (I've seen a bti of Love Hina and have one of the dating sim games), but I let the Coin decide on this one. So count this vote for the two hilarious women who sometimes have to put up with Vash and Kuroneko-sama :3.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Medium.

Group C-14
Hibiki & Dita vs. Rock & Revy

Winner: Hibiki and Dita. Haven't seen Black Lagoon, and I'm nowhere near being a Vandread fan, but Hibiki and Dita crack me up. Or maybe it's because I have a weakness for Yoshino Hiroyuki's voice.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Medium low.

Group C-15
Hubb & Cher vs. Vincent & Real

Winner: Hubb and Cher. I like Wolf's Rain. Even though these two are divorced (like the guide says), they did what they could to help the Pack. And I liked it when spoiler[Cher helped Blue and Cheza... But my memory's failing.]. On the other hand, I've never seen Ergo Proxy, but I'd like to.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Very low.

Group C-16
Shannon & Pacifica vs. Christmas & Kurau

Winner: Christmas and Kurau. It was the guide. THE GUIDE convinced me to vote for these!
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Medium low.

It's one of those "only on ANN" situations -- only on ANN would a duo from a critically-acclaimed yet obscure series like Koi Kaze beat out a duo from a superultramegahit series like TTGL. If this were a more fansub-centric website, I have no doubt that Simon and Kamina would win in an earthquake a landslide.

I agree, they'd kick reason to the curb and pierce the heavens.

Fortunately, this is ANN, where reason rules supreme.... as evidenced by all our intelligent and balanced discussion. *cough*

Group C-1

Voting for: Edward & Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist

Reason: I have seen both shows all the way to the end, and although I may have given Jin and Mugan the nod against a weaker pair, there is really no comparison here. The brother's Elric have one of the strongest bonds in anime history, and are a big part of FMA's success.

Possibility of vote change: None, I feel strongly that this is the right choice.

Group C-2

Voting for: Layla Hamilton & Sora Naegino from Kaleido Star

Having seen neither series, I am going by the guide.

Possibility of vote change: Always possible when I don't know the pairs.

Group C-3

Voting for: Sophie Hatter & Wizard Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle

Reason: Although not my favorite film from this creator, I have seen and enjoyed the relationship between these two. I have not (to my shame) seen TTGL. Although it is one I really need to find and watch.

Possibility of vote change: Fairly High, I think Howl and Sophie could lose my vote with some minor persuasion.

Group C-4

Voting for: Spike Spiegal & Jet Black from Cowboy Bebop

Reason: I gave this one a lot of thought. And after some consideration of what I consider a "great duo" I came up with a definition for myself that let's me vote for this pair with little guilt. To me a great duo among other things is a pair that just with their presence and interactions alone, can make the show I am watching more entertaining and meaningfull. I believe that while Chii's realationship may be "Deeper" I do not think it is as enjoyable of a pairing as Spike and Jet.

Possibility of a vote change: Possible, but not probable.

Group C-5

Voting for: Zagato & Princess Emeraude from Magic Knight Rayearth

Reason: I think this one could go either way, I picked the pair that I remembered better.

Possibility for vote change: Very possible.

Group C-6

Voting for: Talho & Holland from Eureka 7

Reason: This is another tough one. I've probably spent more time thinking about the pairs in this group than I did in both other groups put together. Anyway, I have to give the nod to the pair that not only will do anything for each other, but also as leaders, will do anything for those under them. That's as far into detail as I am willing to go without spoilers.

Possibility of a vote change: Low.

Group C-7

Voting for: Miaka Yuuki & Tamahome from Fushigi Yuugi

Reason: Altough I still have nightmares about Miaka howling "Tomahome!" from time to time, I belive this is the stronger pair.

Possibility of vote change: Low.

Group C-8

Voting for: Batou & Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell: SAC

Reason: See my above comments about Spike and Jet. This is one of the great pairs that stand the test of time, and improve with each new story told. Also, I find (minor spoiler) spoiler[Batou's feelings for the major and how he can deal with it, endlessly facinating. I think at some point in time this will have to be brought to light.]

Possibility of a vote change: Low.

Group C-9

Voting for: Yuji Kaidou & Marlene Angel from Blue Gender

Reason: You all may think I am crazy for typing this, but this is probably one of my all time favorite romantic relationships ever. (fairly significant spoilers) spoiler[At certain points each one saves the others humanity. Yuji makes Marlene feel things about another person she never has before, which really changes her character and in turn she keeps him sain, when his desire to protect and grow stronger using his new abilities almost drives him over the edge.]

Possibility of a vote change: None, I feel very strongly about this pair.

Group C-10

Voting for: Lupin & Zenigata from Lupin III

Reason: I Believe this pair is the exception to the rival rule. They definalty have a bond a respect and admiration that surpasses my reasons for usually voting against a rival pairing in this tournament.

Possibility of a vote change: Possible

Group C-11

Voting for:Juubei Kakei & Kazuki Fuchoin from Getbackers

Reason: I went by the guide, but this was still a tough one to choose.

Possiblity of a vote change: High

Group C-12

Voting for: Kazumi Amano & Noriko Takaya from Gunbuster

Reason: Ok, the last time a Pokemon pair came up, I think I was a bit antagonistic in my protest against them. This time I will try and do this a bit more calmly and logically.

If my above reasons for what make a great duo hold true, then regardless of how tight and well established a pair this is, it is not going to make me watch pokemon. I have seen some, believe me, I don't need to see any more.

To give an example of what I mean, a pair like Craft and Horo from spice and wolf, are a good enough team, and so entertaining with their interactions; that I can watch the show even though it is about economics and riding on a wagon. Not only that but I highly enjoyed it. I can't say the same about Jessie and James. So in regards to a "best duo", I can not vote for them.

Possibility for a vote change: I am not going to argue about it this time, but sorry I can not change my vote on this one. Of course everyone else is entitled to their own opinion, and I mean no disrespect against anyone who wants to vote for them. Very Happy

Phew... sorry about that, on to the next round.

Group C-13

Voting for: Meryl Stryfe & Milly Thompson from Trigun

Reason: I am a fan of Trigun, I enjoyed these two a lot.

Possiblity of a vote change: I originally voted for the other pair, but decided to go back to my first instinct and change my vote.

Group C-14

Voting for: Rock & Revy from Black Lagoon

Reason: I hate this pairing more than any other this round. While I love the relationship between the two from Vandread, Rock and Revy just click in a way for me I can't really describe. The episode where they are stuck together in town and have a long argument is some of the best interactions between two charectors in anime ever. And there are several other times that come to mind. Both of these characters have a suprising depth to them, and their relationship is a lot more than it seems at first.

On a side note. If you are an action fan and don't mind adult content. I can not reccomend this series enough. Really among the best out there in my opinion.

Possibilty of a vote change: With this group, I may end up changing it myself...

Group C-15

Voting for: Hubb & Cher from Wolf’s Rain

Reason: I avoided reading the guide on the pair from Ergo, as it is one of the series I have started and plan on getting around to finishing sometime.

Possibility of a vote change: Possible

Group C-16

Voting for: Christmas & Kurau from Kurau Phantom Memory

Reason: The guide makes it seem this is one of the stronger pairs in the bracket.

Possibility of a vote change: possible.

As always I apologize for spelling and grammer issues, and I also mean no disrepect in my reasons, so please don't take it that way.

Edit 1- I voted for a team in C 11 that was not in C 11...
Edit 2-Changed my vote in C 13 to the pair from Trigun.

Group C-1

Edward & Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist
vs.
Jin & Mugen from Samurai Champloo

Having seen both of these series, this seems like an easy choice for me, I don't see a particularly strong connection between Jin and Mugan other than being in the same show, traveling with the same person, whereas Edward and Alphonse from Fullmetal Alchemist truly do think about each others welfare, what would benefit the other, how to help and support the other...they are a great pair and wouldn't make it nearly as far without the others support and motivation to keep going.

Group C-2

Layla Hamilton & Sora Naegino from Kaleido Star
vs.
Romeo Montague & Juliet Capulet from Romeo x Juliet

Well, this one is difficult for me. I am familiar with Sora and Layla and not with the R+J pair, but there were convincing arguements made in their behalf on the guide, and I do love the tragic love story that is Romeo and Juliet anyway...
However, Sora and Layla have at complex and ever changing relationship that is strong as well. Sora looks up to Layla and strives to be like and surpass her talent all the while admiring her, and eventually they become partners, each bringing out the best in each other, helping each other through rivalry sometimes and pushing each other to work hard and be the best. Layla eventually looks at Sora as someone she has helped to do her best to proudly surpass her, like a mentor. Now, I think I will still vote for Layla and Sora from Kaleido Starbased on what I know. I am a sap for tragic romance, so I could be swayed with more arguement from those who have seen both. *Chance of change on this one after reading others comments...

Group C-3

Simon & Nia from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
vs.
Sophie Hatter & Wizard Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle

Hmmm, I have only seen Howl's and wouldn't have thought it would have taken much of another couple to beat them, however the arguement for TTGL wasn't convincing and after I thoguht about it, I decided I really did like the dynamic of the relationship between Sophie and Howl from Howl's Moving Castle. They both help each other, even though it's much more apparent from Sophie's side towards Howl, I think it did work both ways, and it's hard to imagine them apart now. They found the happiest times together.

Group C-4

Chii & Hideki Motosuwa from Chobits
vs.
Spike Spiegal & Jet Black from Cowboy Bebop

Having seen both of these, I guess I will pick Chii and Hideki from Chobits. I don't actually think either of these are strong pairs that will go too far.

Group C-5

Riku Harada & Daisuke Niwa from DN Angel
vs.
Zagato & Princess Emeraude from Magic Knight Rayearth

I have only seen DNAngel, and while I don't really want to vote for them, unfamiliarity with the other series and the odd guide description don't sway my choice here. I don't feel very strong about Riku and Daisuke from DNAngel, but they still get my vote here.

Group C-6

Talho & Holland from Eureka 7
vs.
Tatsuhiro Sato & Misaki Nakahara from Welcome to the NHK

I have only seen one of these shows, but I am still voting against the familiar and going with Tatsuhiro and Misaki from Welcome to the NHK, from reading the guide the relationship sounds solid and I didn't really ever feel any wonderful connection from Talho and Holland despite them having one, it felt awkward/forced to me.
Group C-7

Yukito Tsukishiro & Touya Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura
vs.
Miaka Yuuki & Tamahome from Fushigi Yuugi

This is easy, being familiar with both, I am voting Miaka and Tamahome from Fushigi Yugi. The amount of stuff they go through with and for each other just to be together is enormous, they really belong together and have a much stronger connection than Yukito and Touya (Who for the record, I disagree with the homosexual lovers description in the guide, but whatever, can't they just be close guy friends? Sheesh. )

Group C-8

Batou & Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell: SAC
vs.
Kei Kusanagi & Mizuho Kazami from Onegai Teacher

Wow, I have only seen GITS, and not Please Teacher, but the guide description is a bit compelling. For now, I will vote Batou and Motoko from GITS:SAC (just SAC?) as they do have a close relationship from having been together for a long time and having built up a level of trust and friendship that rings true.
*Chance of change on this one after reading others comments however.

Group C-9

Yuji Kaidou & Marlene Angel from Blue Gender
vs.
Hare & Guu from Hare + Guu

I have only seen Blue Gender here and not yet Haru and Guu..the guide of them mearly being together a lot and the series title characters doesn't mean they are reliant on each other or have a close/dependant relationship, so it didn't convince me, so I have to vote for Yuji and Marlene from Blue Gender. They build a relationship over time and by going thought various obstacles together, they both actually change and develop throught the show thanks to the other, and care for the other.

Group C-10

Lum & Ataru Moroboshi from Urusei Yatsura
vs.
Lupin & Zenigata from Lupin III

While I have seen some of each of these, not all, I am voting from Lum and Ataru from Urusei Yatsura. They have a wacky relationship and they do care for each other. I can't see a relationship where there is rivalry on one side and no thoughts from the other side between two characters to be a winning pair, as in Lupin.

Group C-11

Juubei Kakei & Kazuki Fuchoin from Getbackers
vs.
Hayate & Himeno Awayuki from Pretear

I have seen these both as well and will vote for Juubei and Kazuki from Getbackers. While I don't see them winning, they do have a very caring relationship even after many years apart, the bonds they had developed when younger never diminished or died, so that gets my vote.

Group C-12

James & Jessie from Pokemon
vs.
Kazumi Amano & Noriko Takaya from Gunbuster

I haven't seen Gunbuster, but in my mind it would be very hard to beat Jesse and James from Pokemon. They can't do near as well without each other, and their dynamic is fun to watch, they to me were the reason to watch this show.

Group C-13

Meryl Stryfe & Milly Thompson from Trigun
vs.
Naru Narusegawa & Keitaro Urashima from Love Hina

I didn't like Naru and Keitaro from Love Hina, they never really got it together in my mind, and I never saw this show as romantic or funny, so that may be swaying my vote, but I think the relationship between Millie and Meryl from Trigun was great. They were always helping each other through everything and it was easy to believe their relationship was close, which I never felt from the other pair here. (I realize I probably picked the unpopular vote here, but I won't change it)

Group C-14

Hibiki Tokai & Dita Liebely from Vandread
vs.
Rock & Revy from Black Lagoon

I have only seen the first disk of Black Lagoon, and the guide description didn't say anything to keep me from voting Hibiki and Dita from Vandread. Not a strong pair, but she is always after him anyway and she eventally wears him down I guess.

Group C-15

Hubb & Cher from Wolf’s Rain
vs.
Vincent Law & Real Mayer from Ergo Proxy

Having seen both, I couldn't remember at first who Hubb and Cher were...clearly their relationship didn't impact me as much as Re-L and Vincent from Ergo Proxy, so they get my vote. It's complex, but they both think of the other for motivations in some of their actions, and while I am not sure the romantic relationship is ever worth mentioning, as a pair anyway, they have a unique dynamic that feels better than the other choice here to me.

Group C-16

Shannon & Pacifica Casull from Scrapped Princess
vs.
Christmas & Kurau from Kurau Phantom Memory[/quote]

Awww, why are these two up against each other? I can't possible vote against Christmas and Kurau from Kurau Phantom Memory, but it sure sucks to vote against Scrapped Princess this early. The relationship is one of the best nominations here, I am sure this pair can go far in this contest, and in my mind, I can only think of one other I may vote in ahead of them...

Group C-1
Edward & Alphonse vs. Jin & Mugen

Voting for: Edward & Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist
Reason: Starting out with a tough choice... After much thought, I come down on the side of Al and Ed -- not because they so elegantly complement each other, for the same is true of Jin and Mugen, but because their story is so poignant. Where Jin and Mugen might or might not have found a path together, depending largely on chance, Al and Ed are bound by ties of family and shared loss.

Group C-2
Layla & Sora vs. Romeo & Juliet

Voting for: Layla Hamilton & Sora Naegino from Kaleido Star
Reason: To be honest, I haven't seen Kaleido Star, and I wouldn't usually know Layla and Sora from a hole in the ground. This vote is a vote of sheer exasperation with the teethgrindingly awful travesty that was Romeo x Juliet.

Group C-3
Simon & Nia vs. Sophie & Howl

Voting for: Simon & Nia from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Reason: Not as tough a choice. I like the duo of Sophie and Howl, but it always seems to be lacking something. In general, I feel that lack of a strong male-female dynamism is a major weakness in many of Miyazaki's films (this is a viewpoint that I feel fairly certain I am alone in having, but it is nevertheless how I feel). Compared to this, the Simon/Nia duo works, and very well.

Group C-4
Chii & Hideki vs. Spike & Jet

Voting for: Chii & Hideki Motosuwa from Chobits
Reason: "Dude, she has an 'on' switch. Dude, guess where..." Yah, yah. But the pairing works, and the love story is really very touching. No, not that kind of touching.

Group C-5
Riku & Daisuke vs. Zagato & Emeraude

Voting for: Zagato & Princess Emeraude from Magic Knight Rayearth
Reason: No question about it, my vote goes to Zagato and Emeraude. Their story is so very, very sad. In an anime that seems at first glance very fluffy and lacking in depth, the true story of their relationship is a strong plot element that catches hold of the viewer, as it is revealed.

Group C-6
Talho & Holland vs. Sato & Misaki

Voting for:Talho & Holland from Eureka 7
Reason: Didn't really like either pair... had to flip a coin. So sue me. No wait, sue Zac instead. He needs a good laugh.

Group C-7
Yukito & Touya vs. Miaka & Tamahome

Voting for: Miaka Yuuki & Tamahome from Fushigi Yuugi
Reason: No strong opinion either way, but I picked a CCS pair in the last round, so I thought I'd pick something else here.

Group C-8
Batou & Motoko vs. Kei & Mizuho

Voting for: Batou & Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell: SAC
Reason: I'm very fond of the two Onegai series and their ancillary OVAs and drama CDs and whatnot -- more so than the average fan, I suspect. But, to my mind, Kei and Mizuho are far from the most interesting people in the series. For me, it's the other characters and their interactions that make up the charm of the anime. Compare this weak dynamic with GitS:SAC, where the Major and Batou have a strong and dynamic relationship, based in overt leader/follower rôles, but with a strong sexual/romantic subtext (albeit probably onesided). The result is inevitably the conclusion that the cyborgs rule, and a mere human-alien couple must submit. Resistance is futile.

Group C-9
Yuji & Marlene vs. Hare & Guu

Voting for: Hare & Guu from Hare + Guu
Reason: Not a hard choice, at all. "Dude, she's a cannibal. She eats people, dude!" Funny, funny series, and a funny, funny couple.

Group C-10
Lum & Ataru vs. Lupin & Zenigata

Voting for: Lupin & Zenigata from Lupin III
Reason: This was the toughest choice of them all... but I have to go with the classics. The Japp to Lupin's Poirot (but not the Robie to his Foussard), Zenigata is a fine foil.

Group C-11
Juubei & Kazuki vs. Hayate & Himeno

Voting for: Juubei Kakei & Kazuki Fuchoin from Getbackers
Reason: Coin toss. What can I say?

Group C-12
Jessie & James vs. Kazumi & Noriko

Voting for: James & Jessie from Pokemon
Reason: They're one of the strongest pairs in anime, inseparable and nicely complementing each other.

Group C-13
Meryl & Milly vs. Naru & Keitaro

Voting for: Meryl Stryfe & Milly Thompson from Trigun
Reason: I suspect Love Hina will steal a lot of the votes, but I personally think that Meryl and Milly are a much better team-up than Naru and Keitaro. In Trigun, these two stole the scene whenever they appeared.

Group C-14
Hibiki & Dita vs. Rock & Revy

Voting for: Rock & Revy from Black Lagoon
Reason: One of the best semi-serious action series in years, Black Lagoon sports a genuine "odd couple". A salaryman gone native and an awesomely hot gun-toting semi-psychopath. What's not to love?

Group C-15
Hubb & Cher vs. Vincent & Real

Voting for: Vincent Law & Real Mayer from Ergo Proxy
Reason: Vincent and Real are a surprising duo, because they start out so antagonistically, but they turn out to be a very strong match. Contrasted with Wolf's Rain, which is another one of those anime that I have always considered vastly overrated, the choice is easy.

Group C-16
Shannon & Pacifica vs. Christmas & Kurau

Voting for: Christmas & Kurau from Kurau Phantom Memory
Reason: Christmas and Kurau are, in my opinion, the perfect pair. I strongly suspect they're going to go on at least as far as the semifinals, if not all the way to the top.

Group C-1
Edward & Alphonse vs. Jin & Mugen

Winner: Jin and Mugen. Ed and Al are going to win in a landslide here, so I'm going to show Jin and Mugen some democratic love because Samurai Champloo was very entertaining.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Medium Low.

Group C-2 VOTE CHANGE
Layla & Sora vs. Romeo & Juliet

Winner: Layla and Sora. I am unfamiliar with both anime, so I'm going with popular sentiment.

Likelihood of vote change (optional): Low.

Group C-3
Simon & Nia vs. Sophie & Howl

Winner: Simon and Nia. Familiarity here.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Rather Low. I know both pairs are romantic, which generally doesn't interest me, so the likelihood of someone convincing me that Sophie and Howl love each other more than Simon and Nia is low.

Group C-4
Chii & Hideki vs. Spike & Jet

Winner: Chii and Hideki. This was a very difficult group for me. I went with them to keep with the tradition of voting the opposite of TestamentSaki, whose post I quoted to get the template Wink (Also to eliminate both of our would be random choices.)

Group C-5
Riku & Daisuke vs. Zagato & Emeraude

Winner: Zagato and Emeraude. I had to consult the guide on this one.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Medium.

Group C-6
Talho & Holland vs. Sato & Misaki

Winner: Sato and Misaki. NHK is an amazing show. After checking the guide on the other pair, I am going to keep Sato and Misaki.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Zero.

Group C-7
Yukito & Touya vs. Miaka & Tamahome

Winner: Miaka and Tamahome.
Checked the guide,
couldn't decide.
Couldn't vote down romance,
So I left it to chance.

Likelihood of vote change (optional): Medium.

Group C-8
Batou & Motoko vs. Kei & Mizuho

Winner: Batou and Motoko. This is a props to GITS vote as I don't really think any two people could be a pair more than any other two (maybe Batou and the tachikoma Wink ). I think the other pair will end up winning.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Medium. If it turns out closer than I thought, I'll change my vote.

Group C-9
Yuji & Marlene vs. Hare & Guu

Winner: Hare and Guu. Haven't seen either series, but they are a title pair. And their show sonds entertaining.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Low.

Group C-10
Lum & Ataru vs. Lupin & Zenigata

Winner: Lupin and Zenigata. I'm picking them because they are awesome.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Zero.

Group C-11
Juubei & Kazuki vs. Hayate & Himeno

Winner: Juubei and Kadzuki. Hmmm. I saw an episode of this on OnDemand and thought it was stupid, but the guide led me to them.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Medium.

Group C-12
Jessie & James vs. Kazumi & Noriko

Winner: Kazumi and Noriko I really want to see Gunbuster + Guide + I don't like Pokemon very much = My vote
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Very low.

Group C-13
Meryl & Milly vs. Naru & Keitaro

Winner: Meryl and Milly. Trigun is awesome. These girls definitely show teamwork, so they get the nod.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Medium.

Group C-14
Hibiki & Dita vs. Rock & Revy

Winner: Hibiki and Dita. All guide all day.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Medium low.

Group C-15
Hubb & Cher vs. Vincent & Real

Winner: Hubb and Cher. I've not seen either, so... The guide.
Likelihood of vote change (optional): Medium.

Group C-16
Shannon & Pacifica vs. Christmas & Kurau

Winner: Christmas and Kurau. Hmmm, the guide. (Even though I nominated their opponents Anime hyper ).

Group C-1

Edward & Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist

reason: what a great team, the whole series is made by the love that these two have for each other, they really show how far someone will go if they truly care someone else. GREAT Duo

Group C-2

Romeo Montague & Juliet Capulet from Romeo x Juliet

Romeo and juliet? if there a more well known and classic couple? they stand the test of time

Group C-3

Sophie Hatter & Wizard Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle

These two are just awesome, they work well with each other and their relationship is what makes the movie (even my mother enjoyed this one Smile )

Group C-4

Spike Spiegal & Jet Black from Cowboy Bebop

Spike is ALL THAT IS MAN, and Jet is also a badass, these guys are probably one of the most notorious duo's in all of anime for being awesome

Group C-5

Zagato & Princess Emeraude from Magic Knight Rayearth

zagato has some SWEET armor

Group C-6

Talho & Holland from Eureka 7

haven't seen either, but from what i hear, Eureka 7 is an excellent series, so i'll go with these two

Group C-7

Miaka Yuuki & Tamahome from Fushigi Yuugi

fushigi Yuugi = classic (enough said)

Group C-8

Batou & Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell: SAC

Batou what a great name, dont really know any of the characters in this one, so i'll go with the ones with the coolest name!

Group C-9

Yuji Kaidou & Marlene Angel from Blue Gender

Blue gender was a much more mature anime, therefor, i think these two are a better duo simply because they are easier to relate to

Group C-10

Lum & Ataru Moroboshi from Urusei Yatsura

Mostly because those are some pretty crazy boots she's wearing in the picture

Group C-11

Juubei Kakei & Kazuki Fuchoin from Getbackers

mostly because i confused the gender of one of the characthers Smile (thanks for the heads up:)

Group C-12

Kazumi Amano & Noriko Takaya from Gunbuster

This is strictly from my utter despise of pokemon

Group C-13

Meryl Stryfe & Milly Thompson from Trigun

have you seen the size of the gun she caries around?! freakin awesome, any girl who can handle a gun like that is ok in my book!

Group C-14

Hibiki Tokai & Dita Liebely from Vandread

because i dont condone smoking cigarettes (and they are in the picture)

Group C-15

Hubb & Cher from Wolf’s Rain

haven't seen either series, the quarter decided this one, i plan on watching wolf's rain in the near future though

Group C-16

Shannon & Pacifica Casull from Scrapped Princess

better all around duo compared to the other team (in my opinion)

Due to the high R1 ratio I am familiar with 29 out of 32 of the duos this time around:

Group C-1
Edward & Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist
vs.
Jin & Mugen from Samurai Champloo

Easy choice here. Jin & Mugen are cool and funny but don't share that strong bond that the Elric brothers have. The Elric brothers have pretty much sacrificed everything they have for each other and the end of the series and movie shows to what extent they will go to for the other's safety.

Group C-2
Layla Hamilton & Sora Naegino from Kaleido Star
vs.
Romeo Montague & Juliet Capulet from Romeo x Juliet

I love the nature of this relationship. The ending of Kaleido Star 1 was really touching when Layla sacrifices so much to be Sora's partner. The scene where it is revealed that spoiler[she is not eating because she needs to match Sora's weight is] touching. Also the fact that she has spoiler[injured herself to the point of permanent damage], but will still push on to not let Sora down is pretty intense. The episodes where she is saves Sora in anonymity, while flying across the world during her film shoot, proves that she is doing it for Sora's sake and not for her own reputation. Still have yet to see the other series but I really like Sora and Layla.

Group C-3
Simon & Nia from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
vs.
Sophie Hatter & Wizard Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle

One of the more charming Ghibli couples. I have yet to see Gurren Lagann since it isn't out in R1 yet but might change my vote especially since there is a chance that they will still be in the tournament by the time episodes 1-9 arrive.

Group C-4
Chii & Hideki Motosuwa from Chobits
vs.
Spike Spiegal & Jet Black from Cowboy Bebop

The boys from the Bebop win. These two guys despite having different pasts are friends in much the same manner as me and my roommates are. They share the good times and the bad times together. Despite being a CLAMP fan I really don't like Hideki who strikes me as a total loser or Chi his robot play thing.

Group C-5
Riku Harada & Daisuke Niwa from DN Angel
vs.
Zagato & Princess Emeraude from Magic Knight Rayearth

Although it's been around ten years since I've seen Rayearth I do remember this relationship being the most memorable thing about the series.

Group C-6
Talho & Holland from Eureka 7
vs.
Tatsuhiro Sato & Misaki Nakahara from Welcome to the NHK

Sato is another loser who annoys me to no end. Although NHK still has a couple of volumes yet to be released this series has still not won me over. Having just seen the last DVD of Eureka I will agree that Talho & Holland are as strong as Eureka & Renton as a duo.

Group C-7
Yukito Tsukishiro & Touya Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura
vs.
Miaka Yuuki & Tamahome from Fushigi Yuugi

Miaka is so obsessed with Tamahome despite the insane obstacles placed between them. This couple defines shojo romance for me.

Group C-8
Batou & Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell: SAC
vs.
Kei Kusanagi & Mizuho Kazami from Onegai Teacher

This is a little tough since the Onegai couple is rather adorable. Once again I will fall back on the couple I can relate with. Batou and Motoko have a neat mutual respect for each other. Their friendship is deep and has grown over the years.

Group C-9
Yuji Kaidou & Marlene Angel from Blue Gender
vs.
Hare & Guu from Hare + Guu

Hare & Guu is funny, but doesn't have the depth that Blue Gender has. Marlene and Yuji go through so much together as their relationship transforms throughout the series. Marlene is all that Yuji has in this new world and he has much to offer her emotionally.

Group C-10
Lum & Ataru Moroboshi from Urusei Yatsura
vs.
Lupin & Zenigata from Lupin III

Lupin & Jigen seem like a better duo. Lupin and Goemon seem like a better duo. Lupin and Fujiko seem like a better duo. I will have to say that Lupin & Zenigata tends to be a bit one sided to be a duo. I'm not a huge Urusei Yatsura fan, but I do get a sense that Ataru really does care for Lum despite surface appearances and like how their relationship is portrayed in the films.

Group C-11
Juubei Kakei & Kazuki Fuchoin from Getbackers
vs.
Hayate & Himeno Awayuki from Pretear

I will say that Hayate probably is my favorite of the knights in Pretear. The relationship between Himeno seems weak since she seems to have her attention split amongst so many guys. The Getbackers duo didn't strike me as particularly strong, but I will vote for them. I would imagine that they would be more popular in the yaoi crowd who are tired of making dojinshi around Ginji and Ban.

Group C-12
James & Jessie from Pokemon
vs.
Kazumi Amano & Noriko Takaya from Gunbuster

Here is yet another case where spoiler[all they have is each other]. The series really is the two of them spoiler[versus the entire enemy race] by the end. I love how Noriko has to be strong for Amano in the third DVD bringing their friendship full circle.

Group C-13
Meryl Stryfe & Milly Thompson from Trigun
vs.
Naru Narusegawa & Keitaro Urashima from Love Hina

The Trigun girls are funny and play off each other well. I'm not a fan of Love Hina.

Group C-14
Hibiki Tokai & Dita Liebely from Vandread
vs.
Rock & Revy from Black Lagoon

This is my favorite of the Vandread combos. I found the Christmas episode particularly cute with DIta's little gift. As of the end of the first season of Black Lagoon I don't really see a strong bond between Rock & Revy. I love the show and think they are both great characters but am unconvinced of them being a duo.

Group C-15
Hubb & Cher from Wolf’s Rain
vs.
Vincent Law & Real Mayer from Ergo Proxy

Much like the Blue Gender couple these two have a relationship that really evolves throughout the series. The problem with Hubb & Cher is that there relationship is at the point where there isn't much room to expand on besides making up. Vincent and Real's relationship go off in so many directions in Ergo Proxy.

Group C-16
Shannon & Pacifica Casull from Scrapped Princess
vs.
Christmas & Kurau from Kurau Phantom Memory

Although it hurts me to vote against the Shannon & Pacifica duo I will have to say that the Kurau pair is probably the strongest one in the tournament. I'll save my heavy campaigning for them later since I expect them to make it through a few more rounds.

Group C-1

Edward & Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist
vs.
Jin & Mugen from Samurai Champloo

This one is easy. I see Jin & Mugen more as a threesome with Fuu but I also like Edward & Alphonse a lot better!

Group C-2

Layla Hamilton & Sora Naegino from Kaleido Star
vs.
Romeo Montague & Juliet Capulet from Romeo x Juliet

Due to what others have said and facepalming myself for my stupidity - Layla & Sora

Group C-3

Simon & Nia from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
vs.
Sophie Hatter & Wizard Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle

I haven't seen the first one and I have the second and like the couple - Sophie & Howl

Group C-4

Chii & Hideki Motosuwa from Chobits
vs.
Spike Spiegal & Jet Black from Cowboy Bebop

See what I said in C-2 Spike & Jet

Group C-5

Riku Harada & Daisuke Niwa from DN Angel
vs.
Zagato & Princess Emeraude from Magic Knight Rayearth

I love both couples. Riku and Daisuke are very cute in the fact that they don't realize how they actually feel about each other but I have to go for the tragically doomed love of Zagato & Emeraude

Group C-6

Talho & Holland from Eureka 7
vs.
Tatsuhiro Sato & Misaki Nakahara from Welcome to the NHK

Coin flip - Talho & Holland

Group C-7

Yukito Tsukishiro & Touya Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura
vs.
Miaka Yuuki & Tamahome from Fushigi Yuugi

This is a tough choice. It really is but I have to go with Miaka & Tamahome

Group C-8

Batou & Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell: SAC
vs.
Kei Kusanagi & Mizuho Kazami from Onegai Teacher

I haven't seen but bits and pieces of Ghost in the Shell but I think that, from things that I've read, Batou & Motoko are the stronger pair.

Group C-9

Yuji Kaidou & Marlene Angel from Blue Gender
vs.
Hare & Guu from Hare + Guu

I'm not familiar with either one - Hare & Guu

Group C-10

Lum & Ataru Moroboshi from Urusei Yatsura
vs.
Lupin & Zenigata from Lupin III

Another coin flip both are long series but Lum & Ataru

Group C-11

Juubei Kakei & Kazuki Fuchoin from Getbackers
vs.
Hayate & Himeno Awayuki from Pretear

I like both of these couples - Both have sworn to protect the other but I'm going to have to go with Hayate & Himeno

Group C-12

James & Jessie from Pokemon
vs.
Kazumi Amano & Noriko Takaya from Gunbuster

No contest here! I have to go with James & Jessie. They need to win something!

Group C-13

Meryl Stryfe & Milly Thompson from Trigun
vs.
Naru Narusegawa & Keitaro Urashima from Love Hina

Going with what I know - even if she does beat the crap out of the poor guy - Naru & Keitaro

Group C-14

Hibiki Tokai & Dita Liebely from Vandread
vs.
Rock & Revy from Black Lagoon

"MR. ALIEN!" "NO! GET AWAY!" Hibiki & Dita. They're too cute! Besides, I think I nominated them.

Group C-15

Hubb & Cher from Wolf’s Rain
vs.
Vincent Law & Real Mayer from Ergo Proxy

Another doomed couple - Hubb & Cher

Group C-16

Shannon & Pacifica Casull from Scrapped Princess
vs.
Christmas & Kurau from Kurau Phantom Memory

They fight like two cats in a burlap bag but when it comes down to it, Shannon & Pacifica love each other very much - they just can't bring themselves to actually say it to each other all that often.
