Episode 7 ended a lot more peaceful than I expected it to. Ichimura indeed cornered his opponent with some quick thinking plus information gathering and it could have resulted in one very fried piggy. He planned even more though and got a win for everyone involved, I like that Ichumura did not only do it to save a life but also since he does need a merchant who can sell those crystals abroad. As for mr piggy... he was ruthless in doing business yet he also used all his wealth to help people and thus I find it hard to hate him.

Hard to believe Butagarian is voiced by Hidenobu Kiuchi, who will always be Dr. Tenma from Monster, to me. This character seems like such a polar opposite, I'm impressed at the difference. As desperate as Butagarian was to keep succeeding, I honestly thought he was gonna' meet his demise from Rampage King's pet. But Uchimura showed mercy (maybe even duplicity), and we got to see a side of Butgarian we didn't even know about.

I like how nuanced the storytelling is and how it's advocating the concept of not judging a book by its cover. It's not the most exciting thing in the world watch, but I feel this kind of subtlety gets overlooked enough, that it's refreshing to see, especially the way this particular show present it in terms of world-building.

This is almost starting to remind me a little of Reincarnated as an Aristocrat (w/ Appraisal Skill) in the sense that Uchimura is seeing the little things in culture and people, then rubbing off the gunk to make them shine to their full potential, only he doesn't have that appraisal ability to see any kind of physical number or label. It's just all intuition and instinct on his part, which makes him seem even more remarkable at his people/situation-reading skills.

Episode 08

We get some interesting backstory on Sylphid, plus a lot of information on the social disparity that exists in this world between races, economic stature, etc. Given that Viper is literally part snake, his under-handedness isn't that surprising. The show seems to take a lot of the more animalistic characters to heart, with Butagarian (a pig) being greedy, and now Viper (a snake) being dastardly. It stinks that Neia has to be a mole for the sake of her parents. But I'm sure Uchimura will devise another weird plan that will expose Viper and bring about some justice.

Episode 09

Holy crap, we're already on episode 9 of a Winter show... I'm still thinking of this as the "new" season. In any case, a satisfying resolution to Viper's shenanigans. Naturally I had "rescue a loli" on my isekai trope bingo card, woo-hoo! Both Middle-aged Online Shopper and Greatest Alchemist have done the same (if you count Spider Girl for the latter). This week's izakaya segment was the clearest indication yet that these scenes are taking place in Uchimura's head, thanks to the appearance of his three former co-workers who had been ground down by the system, but have bounced back. Hopefully their individual recoveries are a real memory and not just wishful thinking on his part.

Episode 10 and 11 made for a pretty strong combo. Everyone had to come together to achieve victory and Ichimura had a few situations to overcome. He overcame said situations with some creative thinking and a bit of acting that was hilarious to see since it is very much not his thing. Despite all that the demon lord had to step up because what plan can work against a literal mountain sized wyvern/dragon?

An interesting bit was the demon lord appearing in Ichimura's landscape yet at the same time also putting him to bed. It was also good to see that the conflict between the demons and beastfolk is very much not a thing that can be solved in the short term, that would have been very unrealistic.

So is the Demon Overlord and the bartender are one and the same? Or perhaps the whole bar was just an illusion that the Demon Overload created. I always thought something fishy about those bar scenes.

Episode 11

That kind of felt like a finale but there's one episode left. Makes me think we might get one of those, "to be continued" type "endings." Yeah, I'm still not clear about the bar scenes either but perhaps that will be cleared up in the final episode. The wyverns may be nasty, but I can't blame them for digging chicks as their favourite food source.

The bartender was isekei'ed/reincarnated into this world as the Demon Lord. That's what I'm going with until we're told otherwise. Smile

I was just thinking that the Demon Lord does sod all besides sit on his throne, so it was a treat to finally see him do something. As spectacular as it was though, since I just finished watching Fate Grand Order: Babylon's apocalyptic gigaton nuclear magic animation last night, it unfortunately looked kinda weak.

I think that since the third episode or so I had assumed that the bartender was actually the demon lord. I wasn't the least bit surprised that he showed up there in the episode. It kind of just looked like the sort of thing that a demon lord who sees the benefit in hiring Japanese salary man would do, moonlight as a humble bartender.

At one point, I thought Izakaya Owner had the same voice as the Demon Lord (Akio Ohtsuka). However, the Encyclopedia credits Izakaya Owner as someone else, but only for the first episode (unless there was a different izakya in that one, and I'm just not remembering right).

The more I think about it, the more Bar Owner = Demon Lord makes sense. Remember that some of the booze in the bar was actually called Demon Lordy.
