i was wondering how close the manga is to the anime. I've only seen the anime and totally loved it. So is there a continuation of the story after the anime with the manga?

yes, the manga goes past where the anime leaves off. Volume 1 & 2 of the manga cover most of the anime (though some things are in a slightly different order) and then continues on from there. I've finally started collecting the manga because ADV finally started putting them out again. A year and a half period between volumes is ridiculous, but I'm glad they have finally resumed publication because it is such a great series.

As NiceAndBlue posted, volumes 1 and 2 of the manga are covered in the anime but with a few changes in order and some very minor details left out/changed. (Very minor.)
You could pick up the manga at volume 3 without missing anything, but I'd still recommend getting the first two just to get the feel of the original order of the stories. There was an annoucement a little while back about a second Gunslinger Girl anime coming out, which will cover more of the manga (probably volumes 3-5) so be on the look out and you might want to let Funimation know you'd like to see it licensed ASAP. |

Well, it's not exactly a secret these days, is it? Gunslinger Girl Season 2 is coming out. But we don't exactly know when.

According to wiki, its Jan 08. I wanna say that I read something on a site that listed an air date that was in the first half of the month, but now I can't remember where I saw that.

The manga is its own world, almost. Every bit of what's in the anime but with plenty more details, a bit more intricacy in the plot, and it does go beyond the original 13 episode anime series. The anime ending does go off from the manga so you might want to re-read the first couple of volumes so you don't have that as a distraction.
However depending on why you liked the anime you may not like the manga as much, especially when it gets into more scenes that don't feature the girls as much. Often it instead goes into more details about the situations behind their jobs rather than focusing primarily on the girls and their day to day lives, as the anime does. I hope that doesn't sound too vague, I'm trying to explain without going into spoilers. And I do love the manga, so I definitely recommend at least giving a try. |

I think I like it that way. Concentrating on the mundane affairs of people makes any medium of entertainment. People don't want to know about their dull lives, do they?
That said, the manga is great! It's seamlessly told and the story leaves an outlet for the characters to philosophize on their predicament. There's a lot of meaningful debate about the girls that lends a imperceptible frisson of chemistry that keeps you hooked. A must-read for all![/quote] |

What's the status on volumes 7 & 8 for Gunslinger Girl? I did not see it as part of the January relisting announcements by ADV.

Yeah, I've been waiting for Yotsuba&! vol. 6. I'm hoping we see new dates for these manga soon. As for their current status, I'm not sure. In the ADV release schedule talkback thread, Tempest had an interesting comment about how ADV is probably focusing on DVDs right now. Manga will come later. I hope this helps! -Murph |

Though in a recent poll ADV did, Yotsuba and Gunslinger Girl were by far the most liked/read/bought of their manga series. So since the guy at the Anime Boston panel said, "ADV manga isn't dead, just scaled back," I think we'll at least see releases of these two most "core" properties.
I've seen Yotsuba on top 100 Graphic Novel lists on Amazon.com. Not just Manga, Graphic Novels...it only had like, 12 manga volumes listed, and they were mostly all Naruto or Fruits Basket. So I think Yotsuba sells far too well for ADV to not put out. Gunslinger Girl as well, that was on a top 100 list that Diamode put out of Graphic Novel sells (once again, all Graphic Novels, not just manga). Edit - Saegusa Miko is so damn cute. Gunslinger Girl is still going in Japan and I believe the current chapters are what will make up volume 9 or 10.
