Episode 6

Wow, they certainly didn't skimp on the fanservice. In fact, if I had watched this when I was 13, I probably would have been in urgent need of some "me" time. Anyway, a nice reprieve before the carnage starts up again.

Sadly most of the anime community will miss the girls as much as the Quest for Holy Grail missed Brave Sir Robin's Minstrels after they were consumed as a winter protein supplement.

Episode 7

So there is some kind of mystery around Renge potentially knowing Yuri before? I wonder if Renge is Yuri's friend who went missing, but in different form? Obviously, Yuri didn't recognize her when she was still alive. And then of course there is her self-healing ability. But maybe she has a younger sister? Another "no death among the main cast" episode, whew!

This show has put in me in a GoHands "girls in a post-apocalypse sitch" mood so I ordered a used Blu-ray copy of Coppelion. Crazy thing is I remember watching a few episodes of that show when it first came out and dropping it. I can't remember why I dropped it, but clearly I wasn't digging it. But I dunno, I just watched a few minutes of the first episode on YT and I want it, so...

I liked Coppelion as long as the show wasn't asking you to think about it too much (it definitely suffers from "I'm not as smart as I think" syndrome).

I'm thinking Renge is part of the Wild Hunt in human form.

The family reunions are just going to make things sadder if our girls end up getting slaughtered by the Wild Hunt. Crying or Very sad

Interesting speculation.

For me, there is something a little off about those reunions. It seems awfully convenient that this random group of people they just saved just happen to be their missing family members. Things that make you go, hmmm...

I still haven't figured out if this anime is going to go the survival anime route or not. Say what you will about the way Goblin Slayer began with that controversial, horrific scene that caused mass triggering, it infused the entire show with a tension that wouldn't have been there otherwise. Even though I know Elf Archer and Priestess and Dwarf Shaman and so on probably aren't going to be killed, I'm never 99% sure the way I am in a lot of other anime. Yuri's death might be having a similar effect here. Or maybe the show is really going to be a tragic one. The artistic rendering of this barren world is certainly apocalyptic, in contrast to the bright and shiny cast.

I'm also < grammar edit wondering if Ren is an android planted among the human populace to gather them together for easy slaughter purposes. Maybe one that's gone all rogue programming. The added little wrinkle is, I'm wondering if she's one of many, and this so called sister is another.

And yeah, what are the odds that of 20 survivors out of millions, everyone else in the group would have a friend or family member among them? That's either enough plot armor to outfit a mecha, or there's something sketchy going on.

Agreed, given the early character death and even her (mostly) being erased from the OP I fully expected things to turn into a brutal tale of survival with a character dying every couple of episodes. There have been dangerous situations since then and quite a bit of information makes the situation seem sketchy story wise yet things are relatively fluffy for most of the time. So yeah, the show is interesting in that it can still go either way.

Episode 8

And so the mystery surrounding Renge deepens. It seems the entity known as Renge was once a real girl who was killed. Somehow she was "resurrected" without memories (except a few confusing ones, such as ones with Yuri before she actually met Yuri) in a form that is self-healing and stronger than your usual human. The cool thing is that this seems to leave open the possibility that we may see a version of "Yuri' at some point. It would be nice to think that if one of the girls dies, there is still a second chance.

That would be a more interesting result than it being good old time travel of some sort. A couple of episodes back I thought it may go the way of most of the girls dying while on the adventure and Renge somehow using time travel to send her memories to the past.

Me, I have no idea what's going on at this point. It's not as simple as Ren being like one of those terminators cloaked in human flesh in the terminator movies though - some human looking hunter that got knocked offline or went rogue.

These are some of the pieces that don't quite fit together -

- Neither Ren nor Yuri seemed to recognize the other upon meeting each other.

- Ren's weapon merged with Yuri's weapon.

- That blue light that occurs when Ren's wounds are sealing looks a lot like the energy of those hunter bodies that appear beneath the drone things.

- Ren seems to have some of the same personality quirks as the Ren that died. Her love of food and cooking for example.

- The title of the show is Momentary Lily

I just need to press some of the edges harder! Guilty! Guilty!

For the few who may not realize this, yuri is Japanese for the white lily flower.

@Piglet - Now that's interesting...

Momentary Yuri...it doesn't really feel like Yuri had a short lasting impact does it?

Episode 9

Indeed. It's unfortunate the show appears to be making the girls seem clueless. If I'm understanding the preview correctly, the girls can't seem to wrap their heads around the fact that they are seeing somebody who looks like Yuri. Um... they already have the example of Renge. They know (from Renge's sister) that Renge died, yet there she is with (almost) no memories, enhanced healing and strength. Given they have that example, why are they so gobsmacked to see a version of Yuri? The show seems to be stipulating that they have no ability to draw any conclusions from the parallels between the two cases.

There seems to be a mini-trend this season of what I call 80/20 shows. What I mean by that is there are three shows I'm watching that are, in any given episode, about 80% SoL and 20% plot. Greatest Alchemist and Online Shopper are isekai, but 80% of the time is the MCs accumulating stuff and doing SoL things with plot occasionally intruding. Same with ML. 80% girly SoL and 20% post-apocalyptic SF combat. Interesting mix. (Actually, ML may be more 90-95/10-5 than 80/20.
