I agree that they got a lot of mileage out of some very standard to substandard animation with their Magnificent-7 style vibe and the energetic pacing.

I suppose a backhoe might look and sound kind of dragon-like to a bunch of medievals in the moonlight. And even though it's a cheap, easy plot device, I'm glad they rescued that little kid the show has been giving us glimpses of.

The old dude who got worn out after explosion magic made me fondly think of Megumin,

Episode 4

Well, who doesn't like a good damsel in distress rescue story every now and then? It was a pretty motley collection of heroes who were willing to take on the banditos but thanks to online shopping they were able to prevail. I wonder if Amazon is financing this show? And I hate to disappoint smurky but I have absolutely nothing to say about the magic nut or all the skanks bathing at the end. Now Kenny Boy has a kid to look after. Hopefully that doesn't cramp his style for getting beaucoup trim.

Wouldn't be surprised if Rakuten or Amazon Japan were involved. The show is a big endorsement for online shopping with the theme of "we have everything" and when they pulled out the backhoe, it was obvious they were going to lean heavily on that. Apparently no guns though. Crying or Very sad

Just loved this episode, so many small displays of love! Kenichi just got himself a family Anemone got a grandma and better life, Mallow got someone to step up and rescue his daughter even if it seemed foolhardy...And I found it interesting when the gang leader was going to attack at the last, he was stopped and then thrown by Anemone's power. In the Op a blue haired girl mage with obviously great power is seen fighting alongside Kenichi so I am excited to see how that diamond in the rough shapes up (likely with the guidance of that "old Man" mage)...

And it is fun to see how a talented sniper, a mage, an armored guy with a big sharp sword and a trio of cat-men (likely with super-human speed and strength) might level the playing field when you have the element of speed and surprise and a backhoe against a bunch of drunken guys...

It makes sense that hunting down an infamous group of bandits would net you a nice profit but the reward in episode 5 was insane. Besides a large pile of gold reward wise and items that were sold for even more gold there were several characters that got an upgrade to their station in life. It was the first time for me to see an item box being used to transport lots of heads though.

Given how big the incident was it makes sense that a noble would get involved and eye Kenichi (those guys in the fancy cloaks were not suble). It does sadly result in leaving town and the people that the mc got to know during his stay while setting out for a new place with a bobcat and adoptive daughter.

Wow, lots of disappointed women this episode. Who knew on episode 1 that our mild mannered MC was going to turn out to be such a heartbreaker.

I felt bad for the merchant stall owner who lost her daughter. Anemone's rejection of her wasn't personal, but it would have to feel crushing after putting herself out there like that. T

I didn't feel so bad for the inn waitress, whose attentions always seem to go hand in hand with mercenary calculations of the MC's earning potential.

I did feel bad for the newly dubbed Lady Drisaine. Her affections have a mercenary aspect too, but I think there's real, deep feeling there. In fact, I'm not sure she could separate love and wanting to make money. When she's mercenary, it feels more like she's being honest about who she is.

I'm okay with the adoptive father plot twist, but it does seem like it's going to get in the way of our MC's love life.

And I'm not so sure those emissaries weren't from the same source as all of these other modern invention/adaptations that have been springing up. Although maybe that is connected to the anti-monarchy faction they were talking about.

Good stuff.

Episode 5

I'm a little bummed that Kenichi is leaving the group of people he's made friends with, but on the other hand, from a story perspective, it makes sense. If he stayed behind, he'd just be repeating the same pattern which isn't terribly exciting narratively. Interested to see what happens from here on out.

Given the OP and ending it seems like some of the characters left behind do pop up again. I imagine they will not be very pleased to have been left behind without even a goodbye.

Yah, I noticed that the merchant's daughter was featured pretty prominently on a picnic blanket with the new happy family too.

I'm thinking that with her family's trade connections, it ought to be pretty easy for her to track down any location where strange new goods start cropping up, but we'll see.

I'd call this fun little show the surprise of the season and appreciate the bold writing choice to play out an arc and uproot to a new one. Of course, I doubt Kenichi will really get his "slow life" if he keeps pulling otherworldly goods from the air and I'd bet the citizens of Dahlia may not have seen the last of him. All depends on what he will encounter that he couldn't experience otherwise and I'm excited to see where the show goes next.

Things were getting a little too heated, and people were starting to look for him, so he had to move. I thought that element was inevitable and was wondering when it would eventually pop up in the story. At least he made a good amount of money from that bandit gang. And now he's basically gone Lone Wolf and Cub (with bobcat). I'm guessing his friends/comrades will eventually also try to look for him, as you still see a lot of them in the opening doing adventure stuff, later. Nice timing on the twist, though. I thought the whole season was gonna' have him chilling, then he'd move at the end of it.

Episode 6 does feel like a mostly fresh start in a new place, the exception being Myaley. She has passionately followed Kenichi by his scent (and she is passionate in certain other regards as well). There was also the bit of news about Primula but I think she rejected the proposal given the ending/OP. Anyway, a mostly calm episode with some bonding time besides the deathly illness and ruffian trouble near the end.

A few random things:
- Was that fairytale showcasing Frieren and Himmel?
- That bit when Kenichi rode on his bike and the camera was placed in the corner with a clearly flat background felt weird.
- It occurs to me that the over the top OP might be how Anemone sees it all.

There was a visual similarity, but the story didn't have much in common. Himmel wasn't a prince, the world didn't turn against them, and they didn't live together in the forest after professing mutual love.

It's clearly symbolic, and I've been trying to figure out some of the whys and wherefores to. During this episode, I was wondering if the OP might be a picture book version of events drawn by Anemone and her new friend. The witch being Anemone and the possible female in a caped hoody being her friend? The thing that supports your idea is that when the "vision" fades out, Anemone is shown sleeping on a blanket while our MC and Primsy are awake. It's a little confusing though, since it refers to people and events that haven't shown up yet. Either way, I'm sure that witch is Anemone after she gets her hands on that grimoire.

Still digging it.

In my perception, this episode was about 80% chill stuff and 20% story and for me the ratio was just about perfect. If it had been 100% chill I probably would have still dug the laid back vibe, but the story added that dash of spice that elevated my enjoyment. I always appreciate me a good cliffhanger. I'm glad that Anemone found a friend her own age and since this show is clearly not grimdark material, we don't have to worry about her dying.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

...

Although just to be clear when I said we didn't have to worry about "her" dying, I meant Anemone's friend. I don't think we have to worry about Mary dying from her raging case of chicory fever.
