@ Alan45 - yikes, I totally get where your old roommate was coming from. I think I'd probably develop that attitude in that kind of situation. I also think your read of Alina is bang on.

@Alan45 I get where you're coming from too, and I definitely think that Alina is traumatized.
And before Blood and I started our latest tilt-a-whirl, I walked back calling Alina a misanthrope and said she was good and nice person underneath it all, and that I only considered her misanthropic because she didn't seem to desire any company outside of work - not just excluding adventurers, not with anyone. I'm not assuming there's anything morally or possibly even logically wrong with that.
That said, it's not like traumatized people can't become misanthropes or misanthropic, and it's not like misanthropes or people with misanthropic tendencies can't have trauma. It's not an either/or proposition.
And ultimately, I'm just trying to have fun, even tossing the term misanthrope around fondly. The only comment Blood made that I found loathsome and requiring revenge is when he called me "coffee swilling". It's coffee *savoring*

@Edjwald
I realize you can be both misanthropic and traumatized, I just don't think Alina is both. I think that with regard to the bulk of humanity she is completely neutral. With people she associates with either in or out of work she has no problems unless they cause them. She has very small tolerance with idiots and a-holes. She tends to be a loner, but then so do I and I suspect Blood-. It doesn't mean we dislike everyone, we just don't want to be around them constantly.

I'm sure the feeling is mutual.
@Edjwald
I suspect the difference between swilling and savoring coffee depends on whether you are doing it or watching. I can't say much on the issue myself, I've had a total of one cup of coffee in my life and I was in no condition to taste it. If I thought I needed caffeine I would take one of Alina's potions (that is in our world an energy drink).

Did someone just say something? That's weird. I could swear I was reading, but I don't seem to have comprehended anything at all
Is this...is this *missing time*?

If Alan45 and Edjwald ever shook hands, I wonder if it would be like matter and anti-matter colliding that would set off a chain reaction explosion that would destroy the entire world?

I've seen a reaction like that before. It was a YouTube video of a Brit who arrived in America at his host home and found out that not only did they not have a standalone kettle to heat water for tea but that the only tea leaves in the house were in tea bags. And to be further advised that he had just entered a country where that was normal.
Oh, by the way, my wife has never drunk coffee either. The only coffee maker that we ever had in our home came with our first microwave. It made great tea.

Yah, no harm meant.
Let's talk about Alina's obvious multiple personality disorder...
Kidding! Just kidding!
I suppose there is one thing I've been wondering. If Alina's gift comes from some higher order deity, and there are dark gods that have been slumbering or something, it kind of stands to reason that there was either some kind of civil war among the gods, or else some kind of war between two different...pantheons? Cosmic forces? If the gods like the one that blessed Alina won, how come so much knowledge has been lost in the last few centuries? Usually, that kind of thing happens after an apocalyptic event.
Maybe Alina's blessing came about because both sides got knocked out of commission, and both sides are waking up or recovering?

I'm curious as to why Alina got her god-given skill, too. I'm assuming time will tell.

Given her flashback concerning the former adventurer I doubt it is by going on a quest or delving into a dungeon. So maybe it really was a god just willy nilly giving out a skill at random?

I could be wrong, but I suspect there's a little more behind it than just pure whimsical randomness.

Given how most gods are represented in anime anything is possible, including being careless or just being lazy when it comes to special powers. Or maybe the god in question is also overworked and thus decided to power Alina up out of sympathy.
