Theoretically, I think both Kraken and Global Games could be wrapped up in 8 episodes BUT that assumes SLF doesn't start some completely new distraction and with this franchise that is not a good bet.

I strongly doubt that to be the case, both arcs feel extensive and barely having started. It would not surprise me if the season ends with both arcs far from being done.

I find myself wondering why Rei-shi's sister is so obsessed with Lycagon. Just from that convo, it didn't sound like Rei-shi had filled her in on recent events yet or there would have been a lot more scrambling going on.

I'm also curious about what Rei-shi was typing on her status screen while thinking that she needed some kind of power up.

At first I thought that Mold's character didn't balance out Rust's very well...a distance attacker ought to have some kind of tank or close combat attacker I was thinking...but then I realized that being a support type seems to be in his DNA.

And for some reason, I also found myself thinking...hey, If Sunraku uncovers a lot of new info here, Pencil Gon will somehow be able to work it so that she clears off another hundred million of her debt...

Good stuff. With Solo Leveling and Shangri-La Frontier both on the weekend, it's like having a Double Matinee of imaginative fantasy action.

Episode 18

I have to admit that when I saw Psyger-0 and New Girl (and Samurai Bunny) pop out of those barrels last episode, I had assumed that Psyger-0 had connived a way to stick with Sunraku. Turns out that isn't really the case. It all came down to everybody (except Psyger-0) forgetting that Sunraku's party had not been disbanded. Even Psyger-0 was ultimately going to finally leave the party when she accidentally pressed the accept encounter button instead. Meh, whatever does the trick is fine by me.

So we have shipborne adventure and that means only one thing: BUGGERY! Come on, ya can't have a shipborne adventure without great lashings of buggery... can you...?

Rum is an acceptable substitute. Though I'm not sure how that would work with a VR setup. Maybe just make your character move drunken-fu style. And maybe players would have to be over 20 years old to use it. Smile Wink

It felt like there was a slight dip in animation quality this week but the content of the episode was great. A ghost ship, barrel abduction and a crew of fishmen, what more could you want. I doubt defeating the fishmen captain is going to be the end of the mission since that would be way too easy compared to how tricky it was to get to battle Wezaemon. Finally, I can see a fight between the sisters coming, tackling both shadow Lycagon and Ctarnidd without her own guild is gonna ruffle some feathers. I do wonder what Sunraku would have done without Akane and Psyger appearing, taking on a colossus with just 3 people seems optimistic.

@Smurky - Maybe we'll get lucky and things will work out so that Psyger will wind up in Wolfgang, either as a liaison or as an exile. Akitsuane too while they're at it.

I'm looking forward to the scene where Pencil-gon and Katzo find out that Sunraku did all of this without them.

@Non de Plume de Fan Boy - Lol.

@ Blood :::::lowers voice as if soothing a wounded animal::::::::, I know you're frustrated that your pitch for an Odd Taxi spin-off called Bod Taxi never got picked up, but not every anime has to get turned into a hentai....

This episode was particularly rich when it came to giving me gamer flashbacks. Running down a street full of buildings that you can't break into...cheesing opponents by climbing a surface that they can't get up and taking leisurely pot shots at them...pain in the ass escort missions...

I have to say, when Sunraku said that he'd made a mistake when he brought Emul along, I nearly shouted "Hell yeah, you did!" at the TV. Sometimes I'll watch horror movies where a bunch of disposable dumbasses are getting fed into woodchipper of a plot scenario, and then a dog will somehow get involved and suddenly I'm all tense and worried about the dog while humans are dying left and right. Emul's a bit like that for me in this show, but to be fair, it's because Emul won't resurrect if she dies.

Speaking of horror movies, I thought it was clever how the show made the game lag seem like some kind of jarring cosmic moment where something unspeakably powerful was coming.

Yeah, I figured that it would take a lot more than just going out on the sea and dealing with some fishmen on a ghost ship to reach Ctarnidd. I love how the vibe completely changed when they all went on the ship and the next scenario started. Now there is a huge creepy city to explore while having to avoid the mermaids and endless mobs of zombie fishmen. Besides finding the rest of the gang I assume that Sunraku also has to help Araba since he seems crucial for a good outcome. Kudos to the visuals and music for setting a very creepy mood.

Finally, I am curious about Psyger's new equipment and Sunraku had the first time where fool made things trickier for him.

Ep44- A little put out that the normally observant and quick-witted Sunraku doesn't get the clue in the scenario title "The Abyss Lies Above in a World Turned Upside-Down" and has to have Araba put it in his face Come on, he instantly surmised the quest nature was different than initially thought Confused BTW, I wonder if we are seeing the "Invisible Hand of God" aka Tsukuyo again when this unique scenario "pops up" to make things harder for Sunraku and crew after they almost defeated Lycagon and she had to add more clones on the fly...Reminds me of Being X...

Also very interesting that Ms Saiga has multiple alternate fighting avatars which gives substance to her title beyond just having one buff character build. A welcome change that the writer is fleshing her out more as she isn't so "flighty" and Sunraku-centered in this either.

Of the three big bosses we've seen, Wethermon the Tombguard might have been the most straightforward of the bunch. Lycagon with its shadow avatars and Chthulu Squid with its reality warping powers both seem like slippery customers.

I'm happy about that. (A) Because a shorter, mini boss fight might be more doable in terms of avoiding ending the season with a cliff hanger. (B) I'd like the whole clan involved in any ultimate boss fights.

Rust and her robot fixation fit pretty well into the group of lunatics that Sunraku usually hangs with, all of who have their various obsessions. And Mold's little NPC moment showed an area that has lots of comic potential.

Did Rei-shan get an email from her sister? It does seem like there's going to be tension between her duties as a member of Schwartzen Wolfen and her adventures with Sunraku, and I for one hope they keep shoveling coal into that furnace.

Episode 19

I noticed an ANN article this morning announcing the addition of new cast members for the upcoming Global Game Competition arc before watching the latest episode and I thought to myself, "huh, I wonder how they are gonna wrap up the Cthulhu Inverted City Arc in a satisfying way and embark on the GGC with only six episodes left in the cours?" The answer should have been obvious, but I guess it was still early in the morning. Naturally, SLF is just gonna pull its usual, "yeah, we know we ain't finished with this story strand yet, but screw it, we're jumping to something new now" pattern of "story telling."

Which actually is fine by me. I like this Raging Fishmen Zombies/Slutty Angry Mermaids arc, but I'm sure the GGC is going to be fun, too. Plus, it's not like I don't know how this current arc ends. Spoiler alert: Sunraku does a succession of amazing moves and saves the day.

I really like how they have set up the dual arc premise. On one hand we have the Abyss city situation with the gang having to find Araba's weapon, deal with the sub-bosses at the four towers and fulfill all remaining conditions to fight Ctarnidd while on the clock. It helps that the city is so interesting and rather atmospheric. On the other hand is the Global Game Competition arc that will have Sunraku, Katzo and Pencil-gon working together and that is always a riot filled with jokes and them butting heads.

Given that most of the stuff I just described is likely to happen in the next season I hope that they will announce it right as the current one ends since it sounds like a killer season to me.
