Huh, I have to admit being a bit surprised seeing those dates. Seems like the release will be late summer or early fall. Given the gap between now and april I also wonder if they brought the reveal forward to counter the leak madness that was going on.

I have a feeling the Switch brand will be this generation's Game Boy.

More than likely. I get the feeling the date in April was going to be the actual reveal. Still, it will be interesting to see if anything else of note launches with it aside from what looks like a new Mario Kart. |

Considering that we still don't have a date for Metroid Prime 4 i'm willing to think that they are holding its release for the Switch 2's launch even though it won't be a Switch 2 exclusivity as it should also be available on the Switch like BoTW with the Switch/WiiU.

Really like the music that played in the video. Looks like it's taking a similar size/appearance to the Steam Deck.
Hoping for Zelda Gamecube remakes to be available as Switch 2 launch titles. A new original Donkey Kong Country game with King K. Rool and the Kremlins back would be awesome too. |

watch it come out in April lol. That's why they chose April 2 and not 1st. Gotta make sure people believe "Launching this month". Looks like it's going on tour until June https://www.theverge.com/2025/1/16/24345091/nintendo-switch-2-hands-on-event-schedule |

I don't wanna yuck anyone's yum (so skip reading me if this comes off as negative), but I was saying to myself throughout the entirety of 2024 "Those jerks at Nintendo are probably not gonna give us anything of value until the Japanese fiscal year ends...." - and sure enough, April 2nd at the end of that trailer where no hard details or functions of the system were mentioned outside of backwards compat had me slinging obscenities at my TV screen. They weren't gonna give us jack if it wasn't for these leaks. This trailer was probably rushed together to get out in front of the publicity the accessories companies were soaking up, and I'll bet Nintendo's executives painfully screeched disapproval of being basically all but required at this point to screw with sales and stock projections....
I'll eat my keyboard & welcome anyone to point me out as inaccurate, but I personally strongly dislike the idea they're artificially holding news back - especially in light of all of the leaking - just to manipulate their stocks and projections for 2024/2025. Xenoblade is coming out right at the tail end in March, and I have this really nasty feeling in my gut that some butt of an executive is gonna say something negative of Xenoblade X having literally just 11 days to sell several million copies before fiscal year 2024 ends. We universally hate that "this game did not meet our projections" garbage, and Xenoblade's timing is right on the frontlines of that. I bring this up as someone that was following all of the speculation & conjecture a couple years back (Digital Foundry did a lot of reporting on it), that Nintendo may have been planning a Switch Pro right around the time stuff like Pokemon Legends Arceus came out. I personally am skeptical that the pandemic shortage caused them to can it and just release the OLED, which left Arceus and then Scarlet and Violet stuck requiring a Pro system-yet-not-having one. The timing really matches up, and then is repeating once more with all of the conjecture that was happening throughout 2024.... it just leaves a really bad taste in my mouth that it really vibes like that's how the sausage is getting made and we've basically just been thrown table scraps because the bank statement at the end of everything is worth way more than the devs (like how Retro that had their credits removed from DK HD) that work on the actual games. Sans MK9 that trailer basically gave us nothing. Last edited by LinkTSwordmaster on Thu Jan 16, 2025 10:50 am; edited 1 time in total |

I'm kind of two minds on the appearance. It's distinguishable at a glance from the Switch 1, but now it looks more like the different handheld PCs that are in the market. I'm guessing that the appearance, and the easy to understand sequel naming are meant to avoid a chance of Wii U happening again and leaving no room for casual customers not to know what this is.

ROFL, I read this news half asleep almost crashing late last night, and I remember thinking to myself right before falling asleep: "Huh? Where are the touchpads?"
xD And I don't think I read it as being the Steam Deck 2... just my head was already in such a state that things got mixed up. |

You know the old saying - If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
The only weakness people really identified are those hard extruding ports, and how they might be vulnerable to damage. I presume those are there for a better connection and to avoid the dreaded drift. Other than that, it's a bigger, more powerful Switch that plays all the old Switch games. Essentially the Game Boy Advance SP to the Game Boy Color to the original Game Boy. |

So they just made it bigger, gave it a kick stand, and made it backwards compatible with some older games.
Here's hoping the direct shows off something more impressive about the Switch2. |

We don't even know the price, what it is capable of, and what games (besides that new Mario Kart) are going to be on it so we got until April to at least determine if it's worth while. |

Thank goodnes they finally revealed it, people were already behaving more toxic than usual on various sites due to the absence of any comments from Nintendo for the leaks that happened at CES last week.
Anyway, even with the leaks people were already arguing over small things, like Nintendo just deciding to keep the Switch name and only adding number, there were many who thought it would have some weird name or be something like “Super Switch”, but I guess at this point Nintendo is done at having weird naming conventions, the original Switch has become their most successful mainline console, they ovbiously don't want a WiiU situation. There's also many that were convinced that Nintendo would add a sort of gimmick, but to be fair, at 1:11 it seems the new Joy Cons will act as computer mouses, rumors about a sort of mouse functionality began to surface a couple of weeks ago, now, I would't say that having mouses on a game console is some sort of huge innovation, there's been mouse support on consoles since the Super NES, but I wonder what sort of thing Nintendo and other developers can do now that they are included with the console from the start, however, it obviously won't work when used on portable mode. I wish Nintendo could have shown more things than just a new Mario Kart |

Don't worry, someone else in this thread managed to sound ten times grumpier with just three words. |
