Please get relevant new manga, and don't be like K-manga or Renta monetization.

This is not going to end well. No more crunchyroll. Never again.

Yea if they make this similar to the viz/shonen jump app I think it has a good chance of being successful (and of course this is assuming they’ll also have good mangas in the library).

Interesting... the former CR Manga team ended up creating Azuki which has pretty good offerings and a very small amount of Azuki-only licensed series.

Seriously, who wants to pay for something we used to get for free as part of our subscription? No thanks.

And let's not forget how awful their old manga service was. The website and app were buggy and broken for the entire lifespan of the service. More often than not, "simulpub" manga didn't appear on Crunchy's site for anything from a day or two to as much as a week behind releases elsewhere. (And the randomness of the delay lends credence to the theory it was incompetence rather than licensing.)

There was even a "Crunchyroll Original" - where for something like seventeen chapters updates announcing the release of a new chapter were faithfully published to social media... But site/app was never updated past Ch 2. Then it abruptly stopped entirely, and from the contents of the promotional material... in mid run.

I have little faith that Crunchy has suddenly acquired competence.

Thank you for elaborating and bringing me back with such a jarring memory. Trying to read manga circa mid 2010s crunchyroll was miserable! It felt so janky, disjointed and broken in many ways and the series/chapters on offer were pitiful. And yes... it used to be free with your subscription (back when the app inexplicably actually worked on my tv and I didn't have to log in on my phone just to cast to my tv and hope it doesn't crash).

Let's hope they at least learned something from that.

Personally, I think if Sony really wants to take manga seriously - especially since they own such a large stake in Kadokawa now - they'd go back to making E-readers in an effort to compete with Kindle as well. Reading manga on a bright blue screen doesn't really make sense to me.

What I remember was trying to read a series, finding that some random chapter wouldn't load, and there was no way to report the issue except going into the forum and hoping somebody in a position of power would notice. They never did, and I'd eventually have to look up the scanlation before I could continue with the series on CR.
