And don't forget K-pop idols OST and music tie-in. Yes, a lot of time K-pop idols will contribute to the K-drama or webtoon's soundtrack. Usually, a member of a popular K-pop idol group usually sing the music soundtrack for the K-drama. So not that much different from the media mix that Japan does. |

Glad that there is a webtoon/Korean specific writer on the ANN team now! We wouldn't have been getting these kinds of articles last year

I appreciate this given the rise & popularity of K-pop (thanks to BTS, and Blackpink. Although other earlier K-pop groups paved the way) and K-dramas (although Squid Game dumped the fuel, but if you know your history of K-drama, then you know Squid Game didn't pave the way). I knew the popularity of K-dramas and K-pop would lead to people branching out to webtoons/manhwa and overall, Hallyu content. I'm thankful for ANN to expand to Korean/Hallyu culture contents (I guess behind the scene, the team at ANN are probably admitting that I was right about everything I said in 2013/2014 although Japan did surprised me too. But, their music can't even get on the level like what South Korea's been doing). I've warned people on ANN back in 2013/2014 that South Korea was outdoing Japan on a global scale. It's no wonder why people have wondered and asked why did J-pop/J-music lagged behind K-pop on a global scale. I'm glad to see Japan is now catching up on the TV dramas thing thanks to Tokyo Broadcasting System/TBS's partnership with Netflix to make their J-dramas catalog available, something that should've been done back in late 2000's/early 2010's to capitalize on anime's rising popularity in the US and to cash in on the K-drama fad (Taiwan took advantage of that hence Taiwanese dramas was able to get a large chunk of K-drama fandom crossing over). But to be honest, it's too little too late for Japan to catch up on it given that K-drama and thanks to Squid Game for cementing K-drama's foothold in the US. |
