Golly, glancing over all that comes next season I count 9 isekai shows (technically 8 plus one reverse isekai). There are also a lot of shows continuing on from last/current season making for possibly the busiest season yet. I may need to be a bit more critical to avoid having like 30 plus shows to watch every week.

As a recent convert, smurky turkey, I highly recommend becoming a bit more critical. You'll be watching less, but enjoying what you are watching more. Leave it to Edjwald to sample every isekai that comes down the pipe!

Yeah, it's a burden. (Sigh). I wonder what deranged madman could have talked me out of just sampling the anime I was interested in and talked me into trying just about every new seasonal offering in the first place? It seems to me it was just a year or two ago but for some reason, I seem to be blocking it...

Anyhow, I've sampled more of the trailers for Winter 2025 since I didn't have much else to do anime wise, and this is what I'm thinking about the newbies thus far

Tasokare Hotel is probably the new anime that I'm most interested in. I'm a sucker for an amnesiac in some dystopian wonderland type story anyhow, and this one looks like it's going to be well done.

Ubel Blatt has also got my hopes up. It looks like it could be a genuine, compelling, down and gritty revenge story and not just an order of angsty edgelord with extra cheese, hold the common sense.

Along with Solo Leveling, Apothecary Diaries, Shangri-La Frontier, and maybe Blue Box, those are the anime I'm hoping will be faves, not that I'd mind being surprised..

As for anime that I'll be happy with if they're as enjoyable and fun as they seem to be:

Welcome to Japan Ms. Elf looks like it's going to have lots of slice of life elements mixed in with travelling back and forth between two worlds. Slice of life anime are looking a little thin this season, and the trailer makes it look like the anime knows what it is and is in for the fun of it.

Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to my Charm looks like it will be a lot of fun for at least 2 or 3 episodes, and then its success will depend on how it moves beyond or survives its seemingly one joke premise.

If Medaka Kuroiwa doesn't give me my romance fix, Anyway I'm Falling in Love With You might. It looks like a reverse harem, which isn't usually one of my go to genres, but it also seems low key, has really pretty visuals, and seems well scored, a combo which is like my personal kryptonite. And I did love Fruits Basket (deux).

Flower and Asura didn't seem quite as pretty or quite as well scored as the trailer of Anyway, I'm Falling in Love With You to me, but it was close even if it did seem more angsty, and I could say the same for Honey Lemon Soda. If any one of these shows delivers the goods, I'll be happy.

I May be a Guild Receptionist, But I can Solo any Boss looks like it might be a fun blend of OP fantasy and workplace comedy.

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World looks like it might be a fun blend of isekai and whatever the hell genre that rip-off Power Ranger shows belong to.

Ameku M.D. Doctor Detective looks like it's trying to combine Sherlock Holmes, and House MD, into a goofy title character, then pair her with someone who combines Watson and Dr. James Wilson into a straight man <--As in a comedy foil, though I guess either sense of the phrase will work. I'm willing to go along.

As for anime that I have both hopes and doubts about but am trying to keep an open mind:

The Fate Strange Fake trailer makes it seem like someone doesn't have to understand the entire Fate franchise to jump on board (Thank God) and looks like it's done well to boot.

Grisaia Phantom Trigger doesn't look like it's going to have the same compelling aura of mystery that Fruit and Garden of Grisaia did, but it's by the same creator.

Momentary Lily seems to have a cool apocalyptic setting and some crazy/stunning action visuals, but I'm a little worried that the trailer spent the whole time running and yelling and exploding things without being too concerned about explaining the plot well.
Anime like Dan Da Dan that can pull that kind of thing off for a whole season are rare, and besides, Dan Da Dan always had a plot even if it was easy to lose track of it.

Aquarian: Myth of Magic looked goofy as fu---fun? That singalong trailer had me bemused, but it also looked like someone had put a lot of love and care and heart into the anime. I don't know if that will be able to sustain me if I keep flashing back to the Brady Movie with a bunch of jumpsuit wearing cheeseballs singing "Keep on, Keep on, Keep on Rocking til the Morning Light" the whole time. But it seems original which is worth a look.

Daily Life of a Middle-Aged Online Shopper has me cautiously intrigued, but it's a coin toss as to whether it will capture the charm of a show like Campfire Cooking in Another World or fall into the "My gift can do anything, even eliminate any pretense of suspense or conflict or character growth" trap that anime like In Another World with My Smartphone fall into.

As to the crap ton of other Isekai I'll be wading through:

I'm a Noble on the Brink of Ruin doesn't look bad, but it does have an adult in a youngster's body, which can sometimes be problematic. The anime also seems to be pushing magic as opposed to having the protagonist use good old fashioned Conneticut Yankee knowhow to reverse his family's fortunes, and there ought to be some of that. But it looks like it could be fun.

Magic Maker: Isekai seems to have the best production values of any of the isekai, but see above comments on Noble on the Brink of Ruin and double down on them.

I couldn't find an English sub for From Bureaucrat to the Villainess: Dad's Been Reincarnated!" but from what I could tell, it ain't no Tanya the Evil,

I Left My A-Rank Party to Help My Former Students looks like a total bottom feeder to me. Hey everybody, let's watch a teacher being conveniently clueless while forming an adoring harem of former students.

Headhunted to Another World doesn't appeal to me just because it feels like I've seen a lot of "The Demon King's loyal aid is actually a good guy" type anime and never really connected to any of them.

Nothing else really caught my eye, but I'll give almost all of the others a look, including the romances about marrying enemies and keeping workplace secrets.and the fantasies about eating power fruits and inheriting appraisal skills, none of which look terrible.

Well, of course, I have no idea who that "deranged madman" may be, but he sounds pretty suave and wonderful to me. Wink

I hate to admit this, but I've been having on/off bouts of depression most of this year and haven't done much to try and keep myself happy, so y'all might have to make the discussion threads, and I'll just edit in the fancy stuff and add the threads to the Index when I get around to it. Merry Christmas.

Very sorry to hear you've been experiencing that, Tony. No worries on the thread creation score and again thanks for all the work you've done in the last few years. Take care of yourself, my friend.

To steal/botch a line from A Moody Christmas, (sorry, my family and I just started watching it last night and it's still in my head), "If your compassion doesn't include yourself, it's not complete." Anyway, I expect more than a few of us will be going radio silent during the next few days given the interim and the holidays, and we probably don't say that we appreciate what you around here enough, Tony, so let me thank you now. Merry Christmas.

By the way, I've added another title to my Winter 2025 sample list (can you believe the century is almost a quarter over already??? Weren't we just worrying about planes falling out of the sky during Y2K like 5 minutes ago???): The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World. Mixing sentai with isekai (senkai?) is enough of a weird mash-up that I think it deserves at least a looky-see. So that's 24 titles to check out, but how many will stick???

Merry Christmas Tony. I hope you are better in the new year. And Merry Christmas to all my friends and fellow travelers here at ANN.

Blood- If you think the last few years went fast, just wait until you start getting old. There is nothing like watching the tube and have some adult talk about how his grandmother was born back in 1965. Mad All four of my grandparents were born before the turn of the last century.

Ah, bless your heart, Alan45 for using the phrase, "...wait until you start getting old..." in reference to me, given that in a few months I'll be turning 60. I know a lot of you will find that hard to believe given my complete lack of maturity youthful exuberance, but it's true! And you've got quite the milestone coming up yourself, Alan45. You'll be thrilled to hear that you are the same age as my Mom who, like you, thankfully is still very much alive.

When I see you, Blood- and Alan45 post, I feel relieved to know that at 54, I’m not the oldest one here!

As best I can tell, AJ Lord Nikon is the oldest in the forums. He is a couple of years older than me.

I may be trying to make something of the age thing here, but I have always thought that the more mature age of many of the people here helps make for a more calm forum. I have been on many anime forums so far and most have more than a little hostility and having to be very careful of what you say to not set anyone off. Here things are generally calm.

@Blood the red ranger isekai manga is actually pretty good, so a solid adaptation of it would be nice.

@Tony K sorry to hear, hopefully the holidays will give you some respite. I am sure that we can spam the forums with the needed threads.

Happy Holidays to all.

Welcome to Anime Field Marshal Blood-'s Way Too Early Winter 2025 report card!

*grips marshal's baton firmly under arm and clicks heels together smartly*

First, the raw number: right now I'm watching 29 currently airing shows. I expect that number to shrink but that's where we are right now. Hello, my name is Blood- and I'm an animeholic... but I can quit any time... honest!

The Safety Zone

These are the titles I believe I will be watching to the end. In fact, if I do end up dropping one of them, you might want to start stocking up on canned goods because it would be a sign that the Apocalypse is nigh:

Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective
(The) Apothecary Diaries 2
Blue Exorcist: The Blue Night Saga
Dr. Stone: Science Future
Ishura 2
My Happy Marriage 2
Orb: On the Movements of the Earth (began in Fall 2024 and cruising to an easy Masterpiece rating from me)
Shangri-La Frontier 2 (began airing in Fall 2024)
Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow-
Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun 2

As you can see, that list is heavily weighted to hold-overs and sequels. In fact, the only new, non-sequel title on there among the 10 is Ameku M.D. It has an advantage over other new titles in that I have been able to see the first three episodes so far.

Promising

These are titles that I suspect I will go the distance with, but I'm not willing to move them to The Safety Zone until I see more:

Grisaia: Phantom Trigger the Animation
I May Be a Guild Receptionist
Medalist
Momentary Lily
(The) Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World (practically a shoo-in)
Sakamoto Days (practically a shoo-in)
Tasokare Hotel
Übel Blatt
Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf!
ZENSHU. (practically a shoo-in)

New Kids on the Chopping Block

I can't say for sure any of these will get the ax, but it ain't looking good for some of them:

(The) Daily Life of a Middle-Aged Online Shopper in Another World
Flower and Asura
From Bureaucrat to Villainess: Dad's Been Reincarnated!
Headhunted to Another World: From Salaryman to Big Four!
Honey Lemon Soda
I'm Getting Married to a Girl I Hate in My Class
I’m Living with an Otaku NEET Kunoichi!?
Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms
Sorairo Utility

Dropped

Beheneko: The Elf-Girl's Cat is Secretly an S-Ranked Monster!
Okitsura

All in all, pretty strong start to the season, especially on the sequel front.

Despite this not being a particularly loaded season, I've come away with more shows than I intended.

-Apothecary Diaries was always a shoo-in. I don't think I need to explain why its really good.

-Ameku M.D., I also enjoyed. It being a modern medical should help it remain distinct from Apothecary, which it otherwise feels somewhat similar to.

-Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf was a charming first episode. I like both characters, and feel like they have a solid rapport. Its not groundbreaking or anything. But it is comfortable and enjoyable- warm fuzzies for the void where my soul would be.

- Ubel Blatt...maybe. I vaguely remember reading this and thinking it was...fine, I guess. I wasn't particularly impressed with the fights in episode 1, so hopefully the second shows something interesting.

- Red Ranger and Headhunted are both isekais I planned to drop...but they both worked for me. 3 episodes in, I'm more confident in Headhunted, but really I suspect they'll both be pretty good.

I still need to watch ZENSHU...
