I doubt it would be too much of an impediment for Good Smile Company, they would just get a sublicense from Viz if they wanted to sell Ranma 1/2 figures outside of Japan. Viz just becomes the middleman for licensing Ranma 1/2 goods. I'm also a diecast car collector and as such I'm very familiar with the concept of sublicensing because some auto manufacturers like Ferrari auction off their diecast rights to the highest bidder. In the case of Ferrari, the current rights holder is a Hong Kong-based company called May Cheong Group, owner of Maisto and Bburago. However, plenty of diecast companies that aren't May Cheong Group still sell toy and model Ferraris, they just pay May Cheong Group for a sublicense to do so instead of paying Ferrari directly. |

Hot Topic... A name I haven't in a long time. They used to dwell in these things called... A mall, I think the place was called.

I assume they’ll also be releasing the new anime on Blu-ray/DVD.

Shame Hot Topic’s sizing and quality of their shirts is all over the place. Last time I ordered from them, the shirts all fit different despite being the same size and the fabric was different for each shirt. I wouldn’t buy shirts from them again. I’d rather go through Red Bubble.

Seconding this, Viz is actually the sublicensor for the Naruto line of Nendoroids, the viz media logo is on the back of the boxes. To my recollection naruto nendoroids are actually not sold in Japan at all (outside of the secondhand market) and them being made by way of a Viz sublicense is how they were made. I think it will be highly likely Ranma nendoroids are eventually on the way unless the anime is SOMEHOW poorly received but even then plenty of unpopular "flops" have had nendos made even before their seasons were finished lmao |

I had no idea Hot Topic was still a thing. But Ranma doesn't seem like the kind of show that fits it though, doesn't it? It's not really dark or edgy or anything.

Answered the last time you asked, yes. Viz is currently reprinting them. They were reprinting them before the announcement. I think they are up to Vol 6 of the "3 in 1".
I don't see Dragon Ball being dark and edgy, but it kept the lights on '00s. Or low so you see the glow-in-the-dark posters. |

It'll fit right in. Hot Topic isn't really what it used to be. I don't shop there anymore, but sometimes I'll stop in once in a blue moon and now it's a lot more pop/nerd culture type stuff on top of some bands. Lots of anime/game stuff and some cutesy pastel stuff. Walls of funko pops. It's still got some of the more "edgy" stuff, but not like it was in the 90s/00s. I mean, you still had stuff like Happy Bunny, Invader Zim, and Nightmare Before Christmas back then, but that type of stuff wasn't as prominent as it is today. At least, from what I can remember. I shopped there a lot between 2002 and 2009-ish. |

I was finally able to complete my collection recently. The last half dozen volumes are all new printings with 2024 print dates and updated Viz logos. |

I wonder if Viz and Hot Topic will include the "old school" design for Ranma 1/2 (from the 1st series) as in creating T-shirts and shirts with the 90's look for nostalgia and also to get the older fans that grew up watching the old series and given that 90's fashion are making a comeback, I mean is Viz and Hot Topic going to bring these back:
If they revive/bring back these old school late 80's/early 90's artwork design, then I may buy one. Last edited by mdo7 on Mon Aug 26, 2024 7:53 pm; edited 1 time in total |
