I think the question is kinda silly because it really depends on the individual story.
I love animation and sequential art in general. Regardless of where it is from. The reason why I tend to prefer anime is because I like how they have story arcs rather than just being episodic. I also like how an anime can bring forth a variety of emotions and feels less restricted by whatever it's genre is. I also like the willingness to tackle serious subject matter in animated form rather than the sorta western taboo where if something is animated then it has to be "silly" or can't be taken seriously. Of course this is not to say that cartoons never have story arcs, a variety of emotion, or tackle serious subject matter but I feel like even nowadays animation and sequential art are still looked down on in the west. Like there's this idea if you want to make a serious movie then it should be live action even when ironically a lot of live action movies are becoming more and more cartoony. Which isn't a bad thing. I just think it would be a good thing for animation to be taken more seriously. Finally I think while it is cool to see animated shows that are for instance made in Japan by Japanese people intended for a Japanese audience I also like seeing artistic collaboration between people of different nationalities or different ethnic and social backgrounds. I suppose this is getting into a bit of "diversity" and I do not like when it is forced upon artists who are just trying to tell their own stories. But when it happens naturally I think it's amazing. Lastly, while I do enjoy comedic and humorous animated shows I would like to see a bit more sincerity and heart written into the stories of western animation. |

While like with anime it depends on the show there are a couple that I really like. Some examples include Gravity Falls, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra, Get Ed, Dragon Booster, Code Lyoko, Oban: Star Racers, Hot Wheels World Race, Iron Man: Armored Adventures, Acceleracers, Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go!, The Snorks, Looney Tunes, Ben 10, Bakugan, Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated, Kim Possible, Kid Vs. Kat, Jimmy Two Shoes, Slugterra, My Life as a Teenage Robot, Johnny Test, Speed Racer: The Next Generation, VeggieTales (whose CGI predates Toy Story), Arcane, Tom & Jerry, Duck Dodgers, DuckTales (2017), My Life As A Teenage Robot, House of Mouse and The Fairly OddParents.
I also remember liking Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, a couple Spider-Man cartoons (I started with the 1994 one), TMNT (2003), Monsuno, Chaotic, Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers, Pucca, Codename: Kids Next Door, Wacky Races, Phineas & Ferb, Milo Murphy's Law, Motorcity, Shuriken School, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Tron: Uprising, Samurai Jack, Megas XLR, Totally Spies, Danny Phantom, Lilo & Stitch, Cyberchase, El Tigre, The Powerpuff Girls, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Ozzy & Drix, Static Shock, Kick Buttowski, Chowder, Robotboy, Yin Yang Yo!, Generator Rex, Teen Titans, The Secret Saturdays The Magic School Bus, Codename: Kids Next Door and Star Vs. The Forces of Evil, though I haven't seen them in a long time (years in some cases). Obviously not all cartoons I'm a fan of, such as Teen Titans Go!, Uncle Grandpa, The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, Family Guy, South Park, Pickle & Peanut, Futurama, King of the Hill, The Loud House, Ed, Edd & Eddy, Spongebob Squarepants and The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, but if I didn't like them I just wouldn't watch them. Basically shows that are mostly a ton of jokes (usually inappropriate ones) or crude or adult humor I often don't like watching. In terms of animated western movies I like there's a couple. Some I can think of are Lilo & Stitch, Leeroy & Stitch, The Emperor's New Groove, The Aristocats, Robin Hood, Toy Story 1-3 (haven't seen 4 yet), How To Train Your Dragon, The Lion King movies, WALL-E, Over The Hedge, An Extremely Goofy Movie, Monsters Inc., Cars 1-3 and Meet The Robinsons. As you can see there are a ton of shows and movies that I really enjoyed watching growing up, and while not every single show or movie ever was a hit, there was still more good stuff than bad in my opinion. |

I still loved American cartoon as a kid, and I still do even to this day. I'm happy Adult animation in the US has evolved and grown up with the time and also at the same time, competing with their Japanese counterpart. It's hard to believe that for the last few years, there's been a surge and growth in adult animation that isn't Japanese animation. I'm also happy at the same time that adult animation has grown to be accepted in the US mainstream alongside Japanese anime. Hopefully, it could lead to a untapped audiences that watched these adult animation to end up watching some of ultra-gory anime OVAs titles from the late 80's-mid 90's like Genocyber, Angel Cop, etc... (hey you never know!!!
 ).
