If you're looking to buy it on PC, NISA is already selling the Japanese version, which will be updated with an English patch on release date. Just make sure to buy Trails through Daybreak, and not Kuro no Kiseki. The former is port developed by NISA, and the latter is the Chinese port and as such will not be updated.

How do you usually go about buying the JP version?

In this case, it's sold on Steam. The Steam page just currently has a disclaimer that English language is not supported.

Both versions are sold on Steam right now. You can just search for Trails through Daybreak and find it. Kuro no Kiseki shouldn't show up if you have your language settings in English - I had to search for it specifically and tell Steam that I wanted to see the games that didn't meet my preferences - but it's worth warning people about anyway.
