The studio never had a purpose as unambitious 90s-style JRPGs flooded handhelds to a comical degree and never went away on consoles either. Their games were further middle of the road. It´s a miracle they didn´t gold after the dreadful Lost Sphear and Oninaki was equally lame.

I heard so many things about I Am Setsuna but found it kind of lacking. Not a bad game, but I didn't get the hype.

Aw, I liked I am Setsuna and Lost Sphear. But also not surprised that Square Enix gobbled them up entirely.

Kind of curious if this will effect their output in any way.

This doesn't really change anything? They were always a subsidiary of SE anyway but I guess having games attached to "Tokyo RPG Factory" won't happen anymore. Worst case is all their work on the game for after Oninaki is just gone and won't release. :/
I think their purpose was to try to make games on a lower budget [far lower than normal for SE anyway] but it seems projects like that were done whether they were part of Tokyo RPG Factory or not.
From the "setsugekka" theming of Snow -> Moon -> Flowers for their first three games, I wonder if they were gonna go for other two parts of kachoufuugetsu that they did not get to explore with the first three. (Bird and Wind)
from IGN:
Quote: | According to Gamebiz.jp, Square Enix will acquire all of the rights and obligations of Tokyo RPG Factory, and the studio will effectively be dissolved. Tokyo RPG Factory was founded in 2014 and its internal structure relied on freelancers and volunteer staff from other departments within Square Enix. |
So I'd guess they'd just release under "SE" if they did their fourth game?
