I abhor these new character designs.
Interesting things to note... 1. Surprised to see Sayaka included. I remember hearing that she was supposed to be in the original series but Go Nagai was opposed to that idea? Apparently that's why they created Maria. No idea if that's true or not, I remember reading it on some French message board I think. 2. It's amusing they're including Teronna and Rubina... but flipping their character designs? |

Miyu as Duke is awesome. Sayaka looks good, but just weird seeing her in purple. Her Infinity design is still the best. Waifu at first sight. Unfortunate at the cast changes, but it wasn't unexpected.

Uh, as a fan of Grendizer and Mazinger, Hikaru and Kouji DEFINITELY look weird.
I hope they all look better in animation though. Sayaka looks great though, but it's weird she and Kouji gets mentioned before Hikaru. |

I heard Koji wasn't that much of a badass in the original version so maybe they are giving him more importance to stand out

I wish reboots based on old anime would go for a retro style more often instead of doing drastic character design changes. The designs here don't look bad, but it doesn't feel like a Go Nagai production at all.
Curious to see what Ichiro Okuochi will bring to the table considering his stellar work on Devilman Crybaby. Hope his writing will match that quality. |
