I’m gonna say this, it’s easy to be pissed about this existing, but this was objectively this best possible move they could do RN. Yu Yu Hakusho as an IP is too big not to do anything with and outside of an anime remake that does not need to happen (the OG is still perfect and I’m not even nostalgic) there was nothing else that would be able revive interest as hard.

Now, see, this is the kind of manga that can be adapted into live action relatively easily -- a fairly grounded setting and story that doesn't rely too much on over-the-top effects, designs or humor.
It's also the kind of story that has a lot of room to be expanded on in an adaptation, given how YYH so swiftly abandons that whole "spirit detective" angle in favor of more conventional battle tournament fare.
So color me -- very, very tentatively -- optimistic for this one.

Don't they fight a giant anthropomorphic tiger with a sword made of light in a giant stone castle in the middle of the Demon World in the third arc? And a giant rock turtle, a dragon man, and a phoenix?
And it only gets worse from there.
Edit: I'm not saying this is guaranteed to be bad, One Piece proved that you can do a good-to-great shonen manga adaptation. But One Piece also proved that you need a dedicated crew, cast, and the budget to really pull that off.

I'm not sure if this will be as successful as One Piece, but as a fan of the property, I'll hope for the best.

I can't think of any early series challenges this show will face with a live action adaptation, and after enjoying the One Piece live action series, I'm interested in this!

Hey it's the series that somehow has worse costuming than the stage play despite no doubt having massively more money put into it.

They might be pulling a One Piece and releasing something on the 14th (2 months exactly before the start like One Piece did).

Why is there no trailer or full cast list yet?

The Three Kings arc went from having the single most interesting set up, to a gigantic, sudden, swift, nuclear crash-and-burn when Yusuke suggests "Hey, instead of a war, let's have a tournament to decide the fate of everything!", and everyone goes all "Sure! "
Whenever I rewatch the anime, I basically just stop right after Chapter Black. Three Kings is something seriously, desperately needs to be retooled if this adaptation gets that far.

The Three Kings arc already was retooled. That's what the anime adaptation is. And it's generally considered the better version of the arc, since Togashi was pressured into ending the series early (knowing what we know now, likely because he was destroying his health), hence why it went from a war arc into a tournament. The anime extended it, added flashbacks to add more context to the story, etc.
But it's kind of a moot point, because a live action adaptation would never even get through the Dark Tournament, let alone touch on the Three Kings.

I'm happy to see more material about this series. It's my favourite anime of all time (I can't say the same about the manga despite being the original source...) I'll welcome this, the theatrical version, a remake, a continuation... whatever they want to do, I'll be happy with it. (Yep, I'm one of those that doesn't care about something being already perfect or not. If they want to do more stuff, I'll be watching it as far as I like the product they make xD)

This one is a Japanese live-action not a Western production so I don't think people will be too pissed. Like, were people pissed at the Bleach or Alice in Borderland live-action Netflix announcements?

There’s allegedly a very significant amount of cash behind this production, including renting out TOHO studios for filming, and big Western effects studios handling the SFX. But two months out, and zero seconds of footage, with the only images of a behind the scenes photo of Yusuke’s actor and those headshots from last year? That’s worrisome.

Guess they have zero trust into their female characters.
