the game will feature "cutting-edge graphics and gameplay,"
The games visuals look perfectly fine, sort of ideal in a way as it makes the game look modern while still having a PS2 era JRPG look. But come on marketing department, this is far from cutting edge.

So they’re recasting but reusing some of the original voice actors. That’s clearly Yuri Lowenthal in the beginning of the trailer and he voices the main protagonist of P3. So I wonder if some of the original cast might come back in other roles.

I think that's the recording of spoiler[Yukari's dad.] and it definitely sounds like Yuri.

Most of the comments on the English video are talking about the voice changes. I guess it's going to be an issue that overshadows the game in the US.

I’m one of the fans who is a very mixed on this.

On one hand, I do enjoy the work of the new VAs and am happy to see them getting work. I can also understand if it’s an issue of unions, certain VAs moving away from anime, scheduling issues, etc.

On the other hand- I love the original P3 VA cast and have a difficult time disassociating then from the characters. And while the original dub may not have been ideal, their voice work for the characters immensely improved over the years in the spin-off games. Liam O’Brian as Akihiko, in particular, is going to be really hard for me to let go of (and that’s just a personal thing. Aki was my first anime/video game ”love” as a kid and his voice was one of the reasons why.) My opinion may change by release date, but I’m not as excited for the game as I was before.

Personally, I don’t think the changes were because “we need to replace a certain VA or two because they’re controversial, so why not replace the whole cast” because they replaced Fuuka’s original VA with Wendee Lee starting in P4 Arena, and that occurred with no other cast changes. Though times have changed so maybe that really is the reason. We’ll never know unless someone from the industry can give an honest statement.

It just comes off as ageism, which I said in the previous thread. I imagine the whole cast will be back as 'adult' characters since they can't possible be believable as young people anymore now that their over 50. Allot of the anime voice actors I grew up don't work anymore and that makes me sad. Notably, allot of them seem to be women.

I think ageism is probably a part of this (and I think Michelle Ruff talked about this on her twitter about how it's harder for her to get new roles lately) and wanting to start fresh with a remake, even though a lot of people hold the original VA's close to their heart and they stuck with these characters through several spinoffs.

And it also just stands out because the JP side has stayed consistent since the original game. They even got to do the movie (which was never dubbed).

The faithfulness that comes from Japanese Casts vs how dubbing company's treat their original cast is jarringly different...

Sadly, -ism and -phobia are still very prevalent in many industries. That is the way it is or will be until the end of time. Trying to lessen the freq. of such ills is not easy.

Aren't like 99% of the issues that come with voice acting having to do with Unions?
