Watamote still hits hard every time I watch it due to me having social anxiety too.

With how many manga volumes have been released since the anime ended, I'd love to see an anime continuation that covered up till volume 20 something with at least 50-52 episodes.

I really loved episode 1, unfortunately didn't like the rest.
At the time I thought it would evolve in what Bocchi is, but it went for cringe adolescents sex comedy route and I wasn't expecting that.
The Opening rocks though.

You are not kidding about her friends/acquaintances reaching the double digits. I had to keep a cheat sheet because the cast got so big and they keep using similar sounding names along with different nicknames and honorifics. I also put notes down such as "has Isabelle hair from Animal Crossing" and "is friends with so and so but dislikes insert name here" and such. And there has been so much character growth I've had to edit said notes because they've changed. It's both frustrating and loveable. There is still cringe humor from time to time but I say they've turn it down by 85% by the latest official English release.
EDIT:As for the Yuri Harem part I would say it's mostly platonic with the exception of Emoji Girl. In fact I would say she has regress to Tomoko levels of cringe while Tomoko mostly keeps her cringe parts to her monologue head thoughts.

Unfortunately the show was not that successful in Japan. Seemed to be one of those cases where it was liked more by overseas fans than in Japan right down to the mangaka stating as such.

I've fallen pretty far behind on this series, having left off somewhere just past Vol.10 or so, but yeah I definitely noticed the shift starting to take effect as Tomoko started meeting more and more people. Looking at the covers of future volumes had me even more surprised as there seemed to be even more characters coming down the line.
Tomoko's journey is a fun one and I definitely should get back to it sometime.
BTW, Vol.23 comes out in Japan in just a few days, so yeah, it's still going strong.

The anime was not that successful, true. The manga had a bit of an uptick in an interest (at least I noticed fanart and such of the series kind of exploded compared to what there was before), though, around the time of the Disneyland trip arc (around Volume 13) which is where the "yuri harem" vibes really started to take off. Probably not enough to get an anime sequel happening, though, particularly not with enough episodes to really cover things. I'm one who has enjoyed the series a lot, for various reasons, though all of its phases.

The WataMote anime turns 10 years old this summer but the manga started appearing on Gangan Online in August 2011. The manga that started publication in 2013 was the 4-koma spin-off about Tomoko, Yuu, and Kotomi in junior high, Watashi no Tomodachi ga Motenai no wa dō Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui, usually shortened to "TomoMote" by fans.

Some of the most satisfying character growth out there.

Gimme season 2, dammit. I want to see her become a second year and actually make friends! Also one of Monica Rial's top roles.

I had given up on the manga and REALLY struggled to get through the anime, but I might pick the manga back up now. Thank you.

one thing I want to point out is that tomokos popularity increase to normal did not involve a make up, or changing who she was, she is more 9r less the same person, what it involve was opening herself up to people. one of my favorite manga scenes is when one of her new friends tells her " uh, you are pretty shitty, right" and their friendship continues as normal.
The cast of characters is pretty solid,.we occasionally get chapters with no Tomoko at all, just a random secondary character getting the spotlight, like emoji or snake girl and these can be pretty good.
and not all girls got.yurified, but, relatively recent development, the straightest ones seem to be interested in tomokos brother.
