(Slightly off-topic for this board, but I can't find a better place to put it...)

In the spirit of the many posters who think things posted on an internet message board matter in some way, I'd like to open an informal petition: can we stop having this nonsense about dumbass kids on the front page? Seriously, between the kid who buried himself headfirst in the sand, the emo boy quoting Garra on myspace, and the frequent Death Note carping, ANN is turning into some kind of tabloid. This stuff isn't anime-related, it's idiot-related. All it accomplishes is make the fanbase paranoid about the great moral guardian boogyman- who to date hasn't even done anything of significance. What, you going to bring up the banning of Death Note in China? Noone respects the Chinese government, they have a long history of thought-policing their people.

I come to this site to keep informed on upcoming releases and to discuss anime with like-minded individuals. I don't come to read the shocking stories of grade-school moronitude and the demented honking of otaku scared some intangible social force is going to take their anime away.

I personally like the news stories. I supose if you wish to not read them, you could certainly skip over them, I have no problem staying out of threads I don't care about.

It seems like ANN's News Page has indeed become little more than a series of verbatim press releases and seemingly pointless anecdotes about random acts of stupidity. Set some webpage update notices linked to several anime publishers’ press release pages and a handful of quirky news sites you might be able to duplicate ANN’s News page with virtually no manual effort at all.

Dude, that's a little harsh. As much as I agree with you on the fact that the people in these articles are idiots, you could always, say... Not read them.

Actually, I think this in response to a surveythat was conducted. Sorry, there isn't a direct link but it's the one that is titled "Most Important News."

Yeah, some of the recent ones have been concerning idiots and anime but I think that they should still be put out there.

Even if I do begin to bang my head on the wall in dealing with other idiots who insist that writing names in a "Death Note" is perfectly harmless.

NOTE: this thread has been unlocked and moved to this forum.

[Moved to Talkback, while not a response to a single article, it is rather a response to our editorial. "Bugs & Technical Questions" isn't for editorial related content. -t]

Funny you should mention that, because it was!

And anyway, I disagree, I think stories like the ones you're talking about should be reported on ANN; after all they are anime related and are news worthy enough to be covered by the regular news.

I think anyone reading your comments and then takes even a cursory glance at the front page would agree that you're being a little hyperbolic with your criticisms.

Not that I'm dismissing them, but there have been a handful of "dumb kid imitates anime" stories lately and we report those. Sorry you don't like them, there's a ton of other stuff on the front page.

I just wanted to point out that one word in Zac's post that highlighted for you. Articles of the type that you mentioned get brought here because this place is primarily about anime news. Whether it's bad or good or in the middle. While the topics you mentioned may not be ground breaking news articles on the state of the industry they are still relevant to the anime fandom. Maybe it's been a bit slow lately in terms of big ground breaking anime news but big stories don't happen every day. If you don't like these kinds of articles simply avoid them. Given the amount of discussion in them obviously many other people do find relevance in having them here.
