The "Misa Misa" thing comes up a lot in the Japanese version. Matsuda doesn't invent it in the sub, and people say it all the time to the point of it sounding ridiculous to me. Japanese sure do have a fascination with making double words like that. It's probably good we've lost a lot of the "Misa Misa"s. "Pizza, pizza" on the other hand . . . .

You lost me a little. Are you saying the pet name is in the anime less than the manga or...more? Confused

Oh yeah, this week's episode? Clever, clever man, Light, figuring L out. Now figure out yourself. You could make a drinking game out of how many times he and his dad say, "No! That's immoral!" in the Yotsuba arc. I just laugh. Silly Light! Morals are for sane people! Wink

Apart from that, this episode is a lot of talking, very staid, somewhat boring...except that L NEVER bores me. Very Happy

Heck, the first scene change in the whole episode is L going to Misa's room at the very end of the show. That's a LOT of time in one place, even for Death Note, and especially for anime in general.

OK, sorry for being confusing. Here's the concise version: They say "Misa Misa" a lot in the Japanese sub version, not so much in the English dub version.

On another note, I had to check the new episode for this week streaming on the adult swim site to see if they would use the new songs, since they start on this episode in the Japanese version. And they do! Yayness! Very Happy And they do use the full lyrics despite some *ahem* questionable lyrics. But, they seem to have invented an unoffensive translation. Either that, or everyone else up to this point is a little over-eager to hear English swear words in Japanese songs.

(My vote is closer to the prior Wink (especially since the band's own album insert says otherwise Exclamation ).)

Is the new opening theme of Death Note a heavy metal song? I think I read somewhere that it was, but I don't know if it was true or not.

I'm not the one to ask about music genres, but yeah, I think that's probably an appropriate classification.

(Before I heard these songs, I would never ever listen to that type of music, but after a few listens to these I was hooked. Now I bought the latest Maximum the Hormone--the guys who do the new OP/ED--album and it's amazing! Give their stuff a listen! Cool )

Awesome, I've been waiting on the edge of my seat to see if they would run the second OP, now I get to rewatch it on TV tomorrow.

Laughing

I told my friends so many times that they would NEVER air the second opening because of the way they had handled themes for Eureka Seven and Fullmetal Alchemist. Especially due to the profound f-bombs.

Yay, creative translation. Take that, censors. Wink

I am always amazed by the stuff adultswim chooses to and chooses not to cut...

I didn't think they would air it with the second opening either, but does the song really drop f-bombs or was I watching a bad fansub translation? I thought it was funny that they hid it by having English subtitles in the song that translated it differently.

I've heard people saying that the translation that they used for the chorus is actually accurate for the first two verses, but in the third verse (the one that they use for the show), it actually does say, "Hey hey ningen FUCKER, ah ningen ningen SUCKER," as a pun. I'm not really convinced, though. Even with a lyrics sheet, it's pretty much impossible to decipher what they're saying.

All things considered, I trust the company that can actually call up the original creators and ask them what it's supposed to be saying rather than fansubbers that need to guess at it.

The new theme song is to emo and heavy metal. It doesn't match the theme of the show at all. However the first theme was quite impressive and had good intent to improve the shows overall presence.

It's a pet name used often in both the anime and the manga in Japan.

Here are the actual lyrics to the song. As you can see, it's not the f-word, but instead 不安か or fuanka, meaning anxiety or uneasiness. It's just spoken in such a way that it sounds like the f-bomb. So basically, the fansubs were wrong. Though, the F-word does appear right at the end.

Emo and metal are two different things.

Well, Death Note continues to be one of the best shows of 2008. Extremely impressive episode actually, I love how they are starting to get into the morality of allowing the Yotsuba group to remain at large and killing so that L can be certain Kira is caught vs. taking them in now. Also, Light continues to show that his intelligence is a frightening thing.

This might sound odd but I kind of wonder how those lost Death Note memories really affect a person. Clearly Light and Misa haven't completely forgotten everything that happened while they were using their Death Notes, so I wonder if there is a subconconcious remembrance of their actions that is allowing Light (as Kira) to do exactly what L suggested, manipulate the situation to regain the Death Note, without ever allowing his newly sainted self to know. Almost like multiple personalities.

Is it just me or is Light actually starting to like Misa a little? I know he's a good guy now but his concern for her seems a little more than normal.

Also, L and Misa have the funniest chemistry. I love that comical exchange between them, Misa saying "I couldn't dream of a world without Light!" followed swiftly by L's "yes, that would be dark." L truly does like Light and Misa. It's tragic, since I can't imagine that he'll manage to defeat Kira.

Kind of makes you wonder what might have happened if the great L had somehow been involved in the case with Misa's parent's killer. Imagine how different the series would be if L provided incontrovertible proof of the killer's guilt, Misa might have fallen for him instead!

Anyway, can't wait for the next one. I need my next dose of Misa Misa! (I can see why some people really hate her but I love her.)

Bah, well you've slightly ruined that song for me now Razz You never know though, they might have misheard the lyrics themselves. Personally ningen f****r makes more sense than ningen fuanka.

edit: actually having listened to the song again just now, it deffinately sounds like 'sucker' and 'f****r'.

Never thought of it like that. I thought that Light just knew his innocent self so well that he'd be able to anticipate what moves he would make with the police force to unwittingly regain his memories. You'll find out later (in flashback) that he's set up an ungodly amount of proxies for taking this risk of trusting his "good" self.

If you mean romantically, given how he reacted to Misa's prodding at the end of this most recent episode, I'd say noooo.

Which is what makes that ending so funny. He just can't win!

Light: I don't want to endanger her like this!

Misa: Light! You CAAAARE about me!

Light: No, I just, you see, I...

L: Misa, I think you're perfectly capable of proving yourself by helping us with the investigation.

Misa: Hooray! I get to risk my life for my beloved!

Light: Stop using her!

Misa: Oh, are you worried about me again?

Light: Shocked Crying or Very sad

L: ..............................

I literally went, "ba-dum, psh!" at that awful pun.

I don't think this is a spoiler, just character introspection, but you've been warned:

According to manga creator Tsugumi Ohba in V. 13: How to Read, (or is it Obata who did story?) L is just playing both of them, Light and Misa, with his pretenses of friendship. He sincerely admires Light because he finds he has a lot in common with him, but is also completely convinced that he's Kira, so he uses the "first friend I've ever had" line to see if it'll have any effect on him. Never can have too many backup measures, I guess. Playing on emotions is a bit sick, but Ohba also mentions that L is a compulsive liar, something you don't realize at first in the series.

Even the percentages he comes up with are false, to make people think he's a genius. Ohba explained that basically whenever L mentions a percentage of something being possible, it means he's dead sure in his mind that it's true, but needs to make it sound scientific, so he makes up a number. He's that arrogant.

He's still my favorite character. Laughing

Same here. I kind of love her for her annoying qualities and stupidity. It's a little endearing, like Aisha from Outlaw Star.
