It would seem that Crunchyroll is not backing down on their quest to dominate the market. I was hoping for HIDIVE to pick up The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten because to me these kind of titles are going to be overshadowed by the biggest titles that CR has. I am hoping for a more balanced market, but it is going to be very hard for that to happen.

They better get the new Pretty Cure. I just don't like them not announcing it until the day of, which they did not do with Tropical-Rouge.

Thing is Crunchyroll is pretty much seen as the face of the anime market in the west, like their name is synonymous with anime. Although Hidive didn’t get angel next door I’m glad that they have been getting a lot more acquisitions lately ( I was surprised to hear they would be streaming Oshi no Ko later this year). Personally I feel of Hidive gets their shit together and updates their apps as well as being back the numerous shows that disappeared from their service they could potentially become a strong competitor in the future.

I'm glad to hear that Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and Angel Next Door Spoils me Rotten will be on a platform that actually works in the third-world country I live in, it won't have an spanish dub but I'm ok with it.

Well, Crunchyroll has 10 million paid subscribers, which means that 10 million people in 200 countries can watch "The Angel Next Door" in eight different languages with dub and sub.
But what about HIDIVE?
According to Wikipedia, HIDIVE has only 300,000 paid subscribers and only provides English subtitles for its titles
Also, if an anime gets a lot of views on Crunchyroll, Crunchyroll will pay the production committee to make a second season
Just like Nagatoro, TONIKAWA and other anime
Unfortunately, anime licensed by HIDIVE will completely lose the potential of being seen and popular in the West because HIDIVE is a small platform with big problems.
Oshi no Ko is already dead in the West...

Was really waiting for The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten, glad they finally anounced it. This season doesn’t have big titles like Chainsaw Man, but it has some nice ones, also looking forward to Vinland Saga S2, Tsurune and Nagatoro S2.

HIDIVE might have cut off some of the Latin American market last year (though that did include Brazil, so it's substantial), but they do provide subtitle languages other than English. Urusei Yatsura and The Eminence in Shadow are in Portuguese and Latin American Spanish, for example. I admit that they don't do this consistently or in as many languages as Crunchyroll though.

I have a HIDIVE subscription and only live 20 minutes from Sentai Filmworks. No need to trash my studio. They've been on a huge uptick since AMC bought them so I expect some future expansions. Plus their seasonal output has been absolutely phenomenal this year.

Here we go again. Monopolies are bad, but we already have local monopolies, don't you see it? If HiDive licenses anything it is even worse than for CR doing so because you cannot legally watch it outside chosen few countries (as much as you hate CR, it has a better coverage at least).

And 90% of the time one company licensing the show means none other can, even in different language (there are some exceptions like recent Akiba Maid War but they are rare).

As I said before, I don't mind having 2 or 3 subscription to watch all shows I like, but if the company only broadcasts in a select few countries and forbids anyone else to do it in other world - I just go high seas for their shows.

No, they are not, but to have real competition there has to be no seasonal exclusives for anyone: Crunchyroll, Netflix, Hidive and now Disney+ (or Star+ here in latin america), meaning that every single title should be offered in any platform. Take as example The Promised Neverland and Pop Team Epic, those are vailable in those first three platforms, I want to choose where to watch, or Vinland Saga which is going to be available on Netflix and Crunchyroll, that's real competition, but for now all those platforms are monopolizing the titles they get.

They were on the production committee to begin with.

Just like Hidive is starting this season with Giant Beasts of Ars.

300k number is very old, and they provide subs in other languages. Meanwhile their stuff also gets picked by other players in France and Germany for example.
