I hadn't heard any news from him for the past few years, so I wondered what happened to him. He was a good actor in all the things I've seen from him, and there were some roles I hoped he'd fill before things went quiet. Happy to hear he was still alive until now. May he and Juli be together again.

both him and Juli retired together from voice over around 2016 or 2017(Juli was cast and voiced Recovery Girl in season 1 of My Hero Academia and then she quit to retire and Luci Christian took over since then. Grant reprised Zeff one last time for the One Piece 3D2Y special before his retirement.) |

R.I.P. It’s a shame we lost both him and William Frederick Knight around the same time. They were two of the most recognizable “cool old guy” anime voice actors, and will be missed. He was very memorable as Zeff.
It looks like he started working at FUNimation around 2003, so about 5 years after they started dubbing in-house. Looks like he did a couple projects for ADV’s Monster Island Studios in Austin before that though. |

I think FUNimation's first dub was for DB Movie 2. His DBZ credit is for the redubbed earlier episodes which was well after FUNi's early DBZ dubbing work, as is DBGT (which would be around or after the 2003 time frame PurpleWarrior mentions). |

Yeah, DBGT aired from late 2003 to early 2005. I think Grant’s only role in DBZ was Goku’s doctor during the early Namek episodes, and FUNimation’s dub would’ve aired in summer 2005. Their original DBZ run was 1999-2003, and their first in-house dub was indeed DB Movie 2 in 1998. I believe he started work at FUNi around the time his wife Juli Erickson did (if I’m not mistaken, her first role was in the OG FMA). Still, Grant had a long run at FUNi, and he voiced many memorable characters. |

He was a strange type. He never voiced a big name hero or villain, but always a wise old man with a type of gentleness to them and who was never a major character. After seeing a few dubs, I came to recognize him and despite how minor his characters were, it'll always feel like something is missing when we lose someone who is in so many iconic dubs. I already can't imagine Zeff without him. It reminds me of when we lost Brice Armstrong.
It's strangely sobering to remember that a lot of the actors in 2000s dubs are dying off, retiring, or stepping back to the sidelines. I hardly recognize the names in new dubs when they get announced and mostly hear the old guard in things like One Piece and DragonBall, old shows that are still going or have gotten recent revivals. I guess growing up is realizing that your favorite celebrities are dying off... |

I feel you. A lot of the old guard from the '90s-2000s are starting to either fade out or seek greener pastures. Such is the reality of passing the torch. Some of them leave before their time such as Michael Kopsa, and all the unique talents they brought to the VA world leave with them. It's sad. |

he was already replaced as Zeff in the Episode of East Blue special, but it's easy to miss since the character rarely makes speaking appearances these days(his OG Japanese VA passed away in 2014 but only around 2017 they cast a replacement for him) |
