Not good for their PR, but hey, I see this as an absolute win.

Hopefully they actually do change their review practices instead of allowing one high profile example through and hoping nobody will notice the rest

I wanted it on Steam so I could have all of the Sci;Adv games on the Steam Deck, but after hearing about the ban, I passed up getting Chaos;Child on the Deck during a really good sale so I could have them on the same console. I mean, Spike Chunsoft already got my money for the Switch version, but good on Steam for changing their judgement!

The thing is - even the developers themselves still don't have a clear reasoning how reviewing on Steam works because how blurry it is and how much is actually allowed. It basically can be just a human error (or more like particular hate for Japanese VN among a certain part of Steam reviewing team) factor.

I'm sure it must've stuck out to someone over there that Nintendo was fine with it.

Nintendo was fine with it for quite obvious reason - unlike Steam, which allow to sell pretty much everything including even AO games, Nintendo usually not review the games content themselves, but rely on approvance ratings from regulatory organizations like ESRB/PEGI/CERO to allow game to sell on consoles first - and of course, C;HN actually got rated before it went to sell.
The actual problem there is how blurry the reviewing process on Steam is, and even by now it still not made any clearer, considering there were a lots of examples of banned visual novels on Steam that made themselves on other markets, like FMD Muramasa.

Good to hear since this was a very high-profile cancellation happening for no apparent reason beyond Steam having a recent tendency to target games with an anime aesthetic. I'm probably getting Chaos;Head on Switch (and not at launch) but it's good it'll be on Steam for the people who want it there.

Yeah it coming out on steam is a big win. The game is pretty heavily censored and there was an active community with a decensor patch ready to go for November. The steam stuff kind if threw a wrench in the plans so this is good for everyone

the game also has some SERIOUS localization and translation issues,so that's another reason to wait for the patch

Well, yeah. And if that's good enough for Nintendo, it's bizarre it wouldn't be good enough for Steam.

Nintendo is a lot less prude these days. In fact Sony is the prude one now in a strange role reversal. As for Steam they have straight up sex games on there. So I don't know why this game would be banned since I'm out of the loop on it's content. You pretty much have to be doing something fishy (fake paid reviews, malware/ illicit code) or very politically incorrect out of spite (Domina).

Most eroge on Steam is the all-ages versions just like Switch. You gotta get a patch for them or do what I do and go straight to Jastusa or Denpasoft to buy a download the games without having to patch in the 18+ content. The Grisaia series, Nekopara, Golden Loveriche, Aokana, If My Heart Had Wings and many, many others on Steam are all the same as the Switch versions.

Edit2;
The CoZ patch is live so anyone who's been holding out buying/playing Chaos;Head Noah waiting for it can finally go grab it;
https://twitter.com/CommitteeOf0
Edit3; The patch may create folder named HEAD NOAH in game directory when applied, at least with GoG version(Steam and GoG have different patches). Cut & paste the files in that folder to the root game directory, otherwise the patch won't work.
All patch features listed here.

The fan patch, while restoring anything cut/edited, is as mentioned also replacing the translation. And in this case it means, what's carried over is basically the fan translation that's been actively worked on for more than +5 years(patch work is done by the same team). It will replace the WHOLE translation, including the 'Tips List' which official translation has received a fair amount of criticism.
While it won't come out at release, the team does promise the patch should be available within a month of official release, so those planning on playing it might want to wait a bit to get the most out of Chaos;Head Noah.
Edit.
It's a bit funny as there just recently was news of Valve advertising the Yuzu Switch emulator* when they accidentally included the icon for it on their short YouTube promo video for Steam Deck. So anyone who wanted so, could actually play the Switch CH;N on the go on PC, presuming they had the Deck. (the video was promptly replaced and icon swapped for Portal 2, but not before the entire thing blew up on twitter, reddit etc courtesy of eagle-eyed watchers)
* Just a quick reminder to prevent unnecessary arguments, emulators ARE legal, it's also legal to dump the ROM of your own bought game on your own PC and use that for the emulator.
