Well, that's a tad disheartening...

I’ve been dodging the leaked opening by blocking users etc.

Guessing they weren’t allowed to livestream the opening? It’s a shame. Would have been great if they were able to do that. People are no doubt going to record the first two episodes that will be playing during Crunchyroll expo…

Japanese creators and companies are too optimistic and trusting at conventions. It's a guarantee there'll be at least one person recording a panel and uploading it to YouTube later. It's been happening since smartphones came out despite rules saying no recording panels is allowed.. Maybe it's time to start confiscating cellphones at the door.

do be seeming to be kind of a banger doe innit

I mean, as disrespectful (and kinda illegal) as it might be, they should be seeing this as an inevitability now. People used to secretly record shit ever since handheld recording devices were a thing so it's obvious that at least a couple people would do it in a world where everyone has a high quality camera on their person at literally all times and where the internet allows these recordings to spread like wildfire and where social media encourages it as well.

But is it even really that big of a deal? It's an opening (a finished one at that, it seems). Seen later than if you attended the convention, in lower quality than if you attended the convention, without the mutual hype felt as strongly as if you attended the convention. So non-attendees still miss out in some way, even if they don't completely do so, as was planned for them to.
There's still enough exclusivity to sell tickets. People who would have gone, with it staying an exclusive, would not be stopped going, or reasonably felt deprived of something or regretted going, just because someone posted the thing on twitter.

Meanwhile, people who would have loved to go, but couldn't for whatever reason, would get a little crumb that fell from the table.
I guess they didn't pay for the meal that crumb is from and thus aren't entitled to any of it and are technically stealing food but honestly, it's kind of whatever imo.

Scum don't have any respect and will always have bad intentions. They are not true fans.

Oh yes, I'm sure they're absolutely brokenhearted from leaks that will only serve to hype up the series even more. Honestly, trying to keep it as a con exclusive is absurd. Just post the thing on YouTube after the panel finishes and then you avoid issues like this.

It's true that Americans should just expect crowds to be this disrespectful, but it should be kept in mind that these are Japanese professionals, and crowds at events in Japan are far more respectful than anything at AX.

If that's true (as in, the fact that Japanese eventgoers don't tend to do things like this) then that's a fair argument I just personally wasn't aware of.

sometimes yes, sometimes no ... example: Japanese hobby expos, you'll see pictures posted online and sometimes off the side in these pictures will be a sign that is asking attendees to not take photographs ..

This is the case. I was at a stage play back in 2019 and I took a picture of the stage before the show started (I had no intentions of trying to take pictures or video during the show). That's perfectly acceptable here in the US, but in Japan, that's not ok and I was asked to not take pictures. I of course followed the rules and didn't take any more pictures.

I can only speak for stage plays as that's what I am most familiar with, but even before streaming, usually people wouldn't spoil the show until the DVD came out. Or at least kept that stuff on private social media accounts. And with streaming available you usually won't catch JP fans posting clips/full show or screenshots unlike international fans.

Of course not everyone follows the rules, but it's not nearly as bad as other places.

Whats exactly sad about this? More people get to see the opening and get hyped for the show, thats a good thing. I don't really care about their contracts or whatever that might say about it only allowed at the convention.

a leak's a leak. they specifically told people not to record and upload the op and now there likely won't be many international events like this after the crunchyroll expo because people didn't listen.

Its true a leak is a leak, but my question is why does it matter? I don't see any reason to care about this other then contracts and stuff for the companies involved, which doesn't impact the fans. Leaks are purely beneficial for fans, its like complaining when E3 video game stuff gets leaked. Oh no, a commercial gets leaked before the companies want it to be! Its just part of the culture, its just going to happen.

Let's say you're a student and your teacher has a side-gig working inside a big media company. Could be a game dev, could be anime, could be part of a music label, whatever.
And let's say that teacher, who is contractually bound to an NDA, trusts you and your classmates to be nice and keep things to yourself and because he does, he shares some exclusive insider information with you. Maybe it starts with some small morsels of information. Like perhaps he tells you to keep an eye on the youtube channel tomorrow for a nice surprise. Or maybe, after he saw that people seemed to actually keep it to themselves, he shares some other info a week or so early.
And eventually, since the students have proven themselves to be able to keep a secret, he then proceeds to share some real exclusive insider info. Maybe shows some early footage of something or announces things nobody else outside the company knows about.

One of your classmates then talks (after all, why should he care about his teacher's contractual obligations?) and leaks shit and gets the teacher in trouble. He didn't get fired, maybe the company doesn't even know it was because of him but the higher-ups are mad and the teacher also feels like his trust was broken and thus doesn't share any more insider info with the class, because that one kid couldn't keep his mouth shut, hurting the rest of you.
Should he have seen it coming? Probably. But still...

That is how this can impact the fans.

Like I said above, I also don't think it's that big of a deal in this case. But acting like this couldn't possibly ruin things for the fans doesn't really make sense.

Or they could just accept its the modern times and understand that everyone has a phone, and its impossible for "leaks" to not occur over exclusive videos shown at events. Most other entertainment mediums have stopped doing these kinds of events because of that, and just stream them to an internet audience instead since its impossible to avoid leaks. Thats why I say its only good for fans, because everyone being able to see these events is better then just a few exclusive fans. Its for the best if the anime industry adapts instead of trying to keep on pushing these "Exclusive screenings" that happened 15+ years ago.
