Eugh. I get itchy every time Dai Yamato Zero Go is mentioned in connection with Space Battleship Yamato. The two have nothing to do with each other. Dai Yamato was Leiji Matsumoto's attempt to make his own version, and it crosses over in name only. Matsumoto is not involved in current Yamato projects, so one should expect the stories to merge.

I never watched the old shows (maybe someday) but I loved 2199, and also enjoyed 2202, so I'm pretty excited for this. But I'm definitely curious how they'll use that 1000 year gap... usually in fiction that length of time is used simply to demonstrate the authors' inability to appreciate scale, but SF sometimes does cool things with it.
