it's kinda hilarious just how much spam comments are in the replies to the original tweet - i think i saw maybe one or two genuine comments out of like, what, 50? definitely going to be a "successful" project.

Oh wow, a card game. No one's ever done that before. Ever notice how every single use they've come up with for NFT's is just something that was already possible, except NFT's made it worse?
Anyway, given that Tezuka was an environmentalist and the Astro Boy manga frequently included stories which criticized wasteful uses of technology, putting Astro on these cards is particularly disrespectful and insulting. |

You could own digital playing cards on some kind of MMO server without them being defined by weird chips in warehouses that hurt the environment (at least, I think that's how it's done?). I mean, Neopets does just fine without NFTing their stuff, just do what they do.

Isnt trading cards the exact opposite of NFT's? NFT's are meant to be unique, but trading cards are mass produced replicas.

Funny you should say that. Neopets attempted to jump on the NFT grift with its own "metaverse" back in November. To say it was not well received would be an understatement, but apparently they're still charging full steam ahead on trying to make it a thing. |

Tezuka was very optimistic towards technology and saw the potential and pride in furthering its development. Japan was very devastated following World War 2 due to the defeated by the technologically superior West and wanted to showcase the potential of Japan's perseverance. According to Tokyo Institute of Technology's Professor Umetani Yoji a lot of modern Japanese engineers and scientists owe a many great inspiration to Tezuka's Astro Boy in helping revitalize Japan's faith in technology and push towards a more tech embracing future. I'm sure Tezuka would be fascinated with this kind of stuff if he was still here to see it. |

Check out a lot of his artwork, particularly the illustrations he created for his New Years cards (nengajo). Tezuka was a dirty old man and didn't just draw lions, doggos and Astroboy. |

I remember hearing about that and thought the backlash stopped it. I guess not, though them making NFTs is just redundant since you already own digital stuff on there without hurting the environment. |

Well yes, but in the end it's about collecting, and with any collectable franchises the point is the rare/super rare items that fans will pay through the nose to own. I guess that's where NFT comes in. |

Digital card games all generally have the issue of there being no user market and you can't trade cards like you can with physical TCGs. I don't know anything about this card game, but, I guess if you can trade and sell stuff that would be the idea behind it. Or it could just be a typical collectors market thing which also makes sense. Either way, people probably shouldn't try to speak for others, especially the dead who can't voice their own opinion. Unless people have a direct quote on the person talking about a specific issue or thing, it's a bit self-serving to try to claim someone for your side of a debate. And somehow I doubt Tezuka ever said anything about non-fungible tokens. Heck, Tezuka died before TCGs were even a thing. |

Fun fact: Japanese NFT marketing is scummier than in the western world
They make it seem like a good thing for the common man for starters, instead of the typical get rich quick scheme that can be avoided and called out easily. That explains that NFT anime from Toei, it makes you feel bad to call it out since the NFTs were made by a 9 year old. |

MLM in general is deeply embedded within Japan (much more than just Amway and the like are in the US). I'm not surprised to hear of Japanese companies looking to to get in on the next Bigger Fool scam.
