Well, now HGS finally has a release date! But only 12 episodes? Hmm....

Finally! Been waiting on High Guardian Spice. Can't believe they sat on it for almost two years.

Just a guess, but it looks like such a Disney, CN or Nick show that they probably were trying to sell TV rights.

HGS is one thing, and the previews look fairly harmless, if a bit too generic, but FreakAngels? Warren Ellis is not someone I would do business with if I were Crunchyroll.

Wow, it lives. Good for everyone who worked on it.

Why would Crunchyroll fund the production of a show that they would then try to sell to competing platforms?

Whatever HGS winds up being, I'm glad for the staff that worked on it that it's finally seeing the light of day after far too long. The massive amount of unwarranted butthurt the project generated was extremely gross.

Yeah they probably just held onto it due to everyone dunking on it and nobody wanting it. They're just trying to sneak it out years later. I do agree it looks like every show on CN/Nick/Disney these days though

Glad to see High Guardian Spice getting released, but CR dropping the series all at once really gives off "Let's just get this over with and move on" energy. The show doesn't look too bad (a tad bit generic, but some anime fall into that pit too), and I'm happy to see people's work actually get out. I still wonder if this will all survive once Sony takes full control...
I'm more interested in the development of High Guardian Spice. This whole thing is ripe for a Wha Happun? or even a documentary.
Final note, I love how Crunchyroll is doing whatever they can to distance themselves from Warren Ellis.

I'm glad the staff's work didn't go to waste for HGS, but while it really doesn't look bad or anything, it does look like CR just isn't the right platform for it. Really exudes Netflix Original energy.
This could just be a me thing too, but there's a strange disconnect between the blood and the kids show-like style and writing.

Onyx Equinox had the same disconnect. The show felt like Avatar visually then went into gratuitous levels of blood and gore.

I agree. I'm sad to say that I've seen comments and even YouTube videos where people called the creators mean names. No one has to watch it or even like the idea, but saying such hurtful things is uncalled for. It's not like CR has stopped streaming male-oriented stuff, far from it, in fact. One more show with female leads meant to appeal to women isn't gonna hurt anyone.

They've already done just that. That's how we got Fena: Pirate Princess and the upcoming Blade Runner anime on Toonami.
Anyway, I'm really happy that Spice is FINALLY getting a release. It's a bit sad that they cancelled the show years before it even released, though. I kind of want it to be a massive hit now just so Crunchyroll will end up with egg on their faces for how they treated this series.

Nope, those were both co-productions jointly funded by Crunchyroll and Adult Swim - which is why they are (or will be, in Black Lotus' case) on both Toonami and Crunchyroll.
