Crazy. But I still genuinely don't get Japan's obsession with this movie. I watched it once, enjoyed it for the most part, but don't need to watch it again.

Demon Slayer should get the record of breaking most media related records.

Now that would be an unbreakable record.

Let's put that to perspective. The average price between all the editions is 6738 yen. Multiplied with the number of all sales that is a ludicrous 7,237,220,375 yen, which is roughly 65,539,186 US dollars. That's more than its theatrical opening weekend in Japan, and over a tenth of the movie's total worldwide theatrical earnings.
Of course, the sales are not split even between the editions, and on the second and third days the best-selling edition was the cheapest (RE DVD). The true number is probably lower. I'm just establishing what kind of scale we're talking about here.
Physical media isn't dead.

In Japan. But then again, they also still use fax machines actively.

This probably has more to do with Covid than the actual quality of the movie, it came out at the right time for this.

No, it is because the anime itself is good, a lot of movies came in the same time but failed to reach a fraction of the success of demon slayer.

COVID help this movie BIG TIME. If this film was released under normal circumstances, there's no way it generates this much profit.
Demon Slayer's current success is largely a case of being in the right place at the right time.

Man, I still can't believe how popular this series is and I really liked the first season but not to the extent that I see a lot of other people liked it.
