Looking over the new releases for 2004 I found a lot of titles being re-released as "Geneon Signature Series". What exactly are those?

As near As I can tell, they are Geneon (formally Pioneer) re-releasing some of their titles with the Signature Series stamped across the top. I think that are same as the disks from before, but retail for $19.99.

Geneon is just trying to get name recognition from people who donn't realize that they're pioneer. Thats my take on it anyway, and I must add that i hate the signature series look. I'm like, "yes i'd love a dvd that looks like a ps2 greatest hits disk, thanks. Oh and you say its the same price as before? Even better!"

Actually it's cheaper. At Suncoast the list price on an anime DVD is $29.99 and the Signature series are listed at $19.99.
Also on online retailers (eg. Right Stuf and Anime Corner Store)
It is cheaper. At Right Stuf the list price for Akira is $22.48 for the original copy. The newly released Geneon Signature series are listed at $17.98. At Anime Corner Store the 5.1 DTS Edition of Akira is $19.98 and the Signature version is $14.98. Everywhere these copies are held I'm pretty sure they are cheaper than the original release versions.

In short, they're older pioneer titles with a cheaper price and an ugly red bar stamped at the top.
Solution:
Wait for the prices to take effect, then try and get a copy of the DVD without the red bar before they're gone. That's what I'll try to do with the last three volumes of "Trigun". :)

Thats cool I didn't realize that Suncoast and other vendors had marked down their prices for Signature series disks. I had just made a trip by Best Buy and they have roughly all their anime priced at 19.99 including signature series dvds.

I'm just waiting for them to slash prices on X. If it ain't this year, it's gotta be next year.
